Just to update, I received a letter in the mail Thursday the 23rd stating my permit was ready to be picked up.
So to recap-- from calling Dec 18th to make the appointment, to getting the temporary permit Apr 23rd... Just over 4 months. Not as bad as I thought! Went and picked it up the very next day, stopped at troop g, then picked up a H&K P30 and put 100 rounds through it at the range.

And here in Pennsylvania, depending on the County Sheriff (we've got 67 counties), it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 days to get a license. Everything is relative. You think 4 months is a good deal, and we think 45 days (the maximum allowed by law) is too long.

That's great a32guy! I just had fingerprints done at the beginning of april. Hopefully I won't be called to say anything went wrong with them. Maybe by the end of May I will be posting some news!

Unfortunately there's no clause in the state law that says there is a minimum time to process the application for the local authority. If Stratford decides they only do 3 fingerprint appointments per week there's no "stick" to smash them over the head with to get them to do more.
Perhaps this is something the CCDL can put on their list of things to have proposed as a bill (if the local authority cannot or will not process the prints within a reasonable amount of time then the candidate can automatically go to the CSP and get it done bypassing the local authorities).

You mean a clause like this?
Sec. 29-28b. The local authority shall, not later than eight weeks after a sufficient application for a temporary state permit has been made, inform the applicant that such applicant's request for a temporary state permit has been approved or denied. The local authority shall forward a copy of the application indicating approval or denial of the temporary state permit to the Commissioner of Public Safety. If the local authority has denied the application for a temporary state permit, no state permit may be issued. The commissioner shall, not later than eight weeks after receiving an application indicating approval from the local authority, inform the applicant in writing that the applicant's application for a state permit has been approved or denied, or that the results of the national criminal history records check have not been received. If grounds for denial become known after a temporary state permit has been obtained, the temporary state permit shall be immediately revoked pursuant to section 29-32.
Unfortunately, it still has no teeth. As we are a may-issue state, if you harass them they can just decide to deny you a permit.

Sec. 29-28b reflects the amount of time after which you have had your appointment for prints and filing your paperwork with the local PD. I know of no statute that states how long they make you wait for your appointment.
That is the real problem here in Stratford. Once your paperwork is in, I have not heard any complaints on the time frame for receiving the permit.
The problem is that when you call for the appointment it can be many months till you get to actually start the process. Most people don't even think of calling for an appointment until they have all their ducks in a row ie. Passing the NRA course, Getting passport photos, Having paperwork notarized. This in itself can take a month to put together. Then you have all those months to wait for your appointment and then a couple more months to actually get your permit. We are looking at about a 6 month or more process in Stratford. This is something that our group could address once we are fully established.
My advice to anyone in Stratford. Make your appointment the day you go to pick up your application for the permit. You will have plenty of time to get everything in order for your appointment.

Ouch... that sucks.
It's probably faster to change your residency to another state, apply for an out of state CT permit, and then change your residency back (and the address on your state permit) at this point.

It does suck and it is patently unfair. It's an artificial stumbling block to impede the flow of law abiding folk that want to protect themselves from being able to do so.
Perhaps whoever it was that had one of their representatives propose some statutes to protect gun owners could be persuaded to add something along the lines of what we are talking about to a bill going in for action. It doesn't take any authority away from the departments that are issuing the town permits IF they get off their collective duffs and get the work done. If they can't manage to fingerprint and interview someone in less than a month then they don't deserve to have a say in whether or not this individual gets a permit.

It is my understanding that there is ONLY ONE PERSON processing pistol permit applications on a limited part-time basis.
Therefore, the problem lies with the Chief of Police!
He is not allocating sufficient resources to get the job done and SERVE THE PUBLIC in a timely fashion.
Everyone in Stratford needs to make a BIG STINK by sending a "nice" and "precise" letter to the Chief of Police (and cc: the Mayor, DPS, and the CT Post).
