I turned in my application today to the prothonotary's office. Just a little advice for those who have not yet applied. Get your article in the paper before you get fingerprinted. You only have 30 days to turn in your application after being fingerprinted and you can not turn in your application until ten (10) days after your article is in the paper. In my case, I got fingerprinted on a Monday and after fingerprinting, I went to the local paper to run the ad. Being a Monday, it was too late to run in that weeks paper, so I had to wait until the following Wednesday for it to run. After that I needed to wait ten days before presenting my application to the prothonotary. Due to the way I did the process, I had to wait a total of 19 days before my application could be presented, leaving only a six weekday window for me to get my application in. If I'd have thought about it before hand, I'd have started my newspaper article two weeks prior to fingerprinting to allow more time to get the application in. Good thing I didn't have the flu or an accident or I may have went past the deadline and would have needed to spend the $69 again for fingerprinting.
Time will tell now......

Thanks for the heads-up. Is there a good "timeline" that we should follow for when we apply? Like the steps to take AND a timeline so we know when to do stuff?
Also, fingerprints must have gone down in price. When I called SBI to ask the price (last year IIRC), I was told $110!!!

Well, the newspaper ad needs to run at least 10 days before you file, there's no expiration on that, so run the news paper ad first off -- as long as you have the affidavit from the News Journal, you'll never need to run it again.
Second, schedule your fingerprinting -- that will be 2-6 weeks in the future.
Depending on what route you go, you may want get the training out of the way first, as Targetmaster classes can be booked for the one month and classes span over two months. If you think there's a chance you'll get denied, I'd say see if you can reserve a spot in a class without having to put down a deposit so you can take the class after you get approved.
It all boils down to this, really... Try to schedule it so you have everything done and you get your fingerprints the day you file. If you run your ad first thing, you'll be good.

in Kent county its just a walk in, no appointment necessary, took about 15min for me.

I scheduled mine after the ad. It was about 2 weeks in advance I called for the appointment. It was scheduled for 1:15, I was out at 1:11 (I was early).

| i live in Sussex county but had fingerprints taken in Dover, just walked in without an appt. That was in 2006, not sure if anyone from Sussex or New castle can still do that. If so, it may be worth the drive.

You can't assume everyone shares your views and concealment is a useful compromise . I don't think it's an "either or" argument. Honest folks should have both options available and it seems in Delaware we do.

I'm not going for mine, based on the price, and the publicity involved. I've thought about getting one for 3 years now.
Would I get mine if given the financial opportunity (like a gift)? Yes.
Would I then carry concealed all the time? No.
I actually OC whenever I can, and wherever I'm allowed to. I'd OC all day at work if my place of employment didn't prohibit weapons. But for now, my OCing is limited to after 5:00pm, and weekends.
Why'd I start OCing? Because of all the news reports on violence near and around my home, and neighborhood lately!
I believe OC deters possible crime. It helps to educate the public in seeing firearms and desensitizing the sheeple. It provides an opportunity to answer questions from people around me. It provides a faster draw than concealed carry. And never mind the fact that it's perfectly lawful to do so, and free!
But I'd love to have my CCDW for DE because it allows me to get a LTCF in PA, where I visit as often as I can (parents). It would be more of a means to an end kind of thing.

They are sure jerking One Shot around. he turned it in on 5 march and everything was complete, eventually he got the letter telling him it wasn't being contested, a month later he called and they said it would be mailed to him next week, that week came and went and they said because of the fourth of July it would take another week, after that week was gone he went in person to the prothonatary's office in person ( it's hard to get them to answer the phone) and found that it hasn't even been sent to the judge yet. Is he pi$$ed!

So, we can assume that the prothonotary office is mostly the delay in processing? Gee... all along the judge got the bad rap for the delays.
So when did they tell him it was going to go to the judge? It seems 4 months in process is a little long.

they told him it was going to the judge this week. the judge here in Kent county doesn't seem as bad as New Castle, All the ones I've heard of here get signed with out playing games. Of course I just may not of heard of the others, once mine hit his desk, it was signed and mailed to me in a week
