DC group to press for gun rights
Washington, D.C. A group of DC residents, workers and college students have organized to press Congress and the Council to fully implement the right of District of Columbia residents to keep and bear arms as confirmed by the Supreme Court's recent Heller decision.
Capital Gun Owner's (CGO) President Amy McVey, said that the group supports recent bills introduced in Congress to protect the second amendment rights of District residents. "If the Council will not obey the Constitution," she said "then Congress has an obligation to step in to protect the rights of persons living, working, attending college and visiting the District."
CGO Board Member Joe Brown, said, "The District has failed to make a good faith attempt to comply with the Supreme Court's holding in Heller. Its continued ban on semi-automatic hand guns and rifles is directly contrary to Heller's holding that ordinary every day weapons are Constitutionally protected. Also, the District's trigger lock requirement continues to prevent effective use of a firearm for self-defense."
McVey, who was the first person to register a hand gun following the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the District's 32 year old hand gun ban, said the group's goal is to overturn District's continued ban on semi-automatic firearms and to streamline or eliminate the registration process. "In addition," she said, "District residents should have the right enjoyed by residents of virtually every other state in the nation to carry firearms for their protection, either openly or concealed."
CGO Board Member George Lyon, one of the original plaintiffs in the Heller case, said, "Our purpose is three fold, first to convince the city to fix its gun laws to comply with the Constitution, second to serve as a resource for gun owners to exercise their rights responsibly and safely, and third to educate the public concerning firearms issues."
Another of the original Heller plaintiffs, Gillian St. Lawrence, also a board member, said the group plans to meet with each of the Council members to explain what changes are needed in the District's gun laws to accommodate the self-defense needs of District citizens.

| Capitol Gun Owners you will definitely be in my prayers. If there's anything more concrete we can do to help your cause from outside the district, please sing out. Everything that happens in your neck of the woods seems to effect all of us. In the meantime we'll continue pushing for OC here in Texas. Good luck and keep doing what you're doing. Best efforts. CHUCK.

From the Times... Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C. Democrat, opposes the bill. She said it treads on home rule in the District and would be detrimental to the city's crime-fighting efforts.
Well, the "crime fighting efforts" aren't working, haven't worked and, likely, will never work. Remember Einstein's definition of insanity - “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.
Wouldn't a prudent person think that a new approach is necessary, Ms. Holmes Norton?

OK, you might want to check - I cannot get into your site. Also, consider passing the hat for donation to crank up more features - like ListBox, see http://www.listbox.com/listbox, for example which allows you to do email lists and I think collect email addresses for alert - sign-ups - you can get a pay pal account and post to here and your site - people have been known to give $10 - $20 - $100 for worthy causes around here from time to time.

Is there a membership category for persons that do not live or work in the Distrct?
I have for years avoided travel to Wash. D.C. strictly because my right to self-defense would be taken from me when entering my nation's capital. You give me hope.

| GO GO GO GO GO GO GO !!!! 'BOUT DAMN TIME DC FOLKS STOOD UP EN MASSE TO THE PETTY TYRANTS WHO RUN DC!! Your efforts must not ONLY be in the courts but also in the political arena as I am sure you know. Please be sure to contact the NRA for support and advice. The Second American Revolution has begun and it is being fought to regain the results of the First. This is the best news I have heard since the recent SCOTUS decision, because only the citizenry can put teeth into it. The alternative is having the Gestapo turn away dear friends and relatives from just dropping by a la TRINIDAD. y'all got a rough row to hoe, but you have brothers and sisters to help you do it. Keep us posted!!!

Don't ask Ms Norton to be "prudent". You'd sooner get a pig to stop wallowing in mud. These folks are not fighting crime, they are fighting for the ascendancy of government rights over individual rights. I have been in the Washington area - on the Virginia side of the "Moat"(Potomac) since 1974 and the lunacy into which the DC government has spiraled since being granted "Home Rule" has been truly astounding. Gun laws completely aside, these idiots cannot even fix the damn streets! To paraphrase P.J. O'Rourke: What in most of the country would be called a road hazard, in DC is likely to be the road. A city council member once formed a "DC Beautification Committee" which had as its headquarters a dilapidated old schoolhouse with an American flag in tatters flying over it. I am NOT making ANY of this up!! The lone Republican on the council, Ms. Carol Schwartz, is herself about a taco short of a Monterrey Dinner. I could go on and on, you folks in the rest of the country have no idea..........
Watching the DC council in action is like watching a re-run of the old Amos 'n Andy show. But while blacxk folks got that show taken off the air 40 years ago, over in DC they vote the racial insult called the DC Council back in year after year. Something is majorly effed up there. I thank the LORD for the blessed Potomac.

If any of you get the chance to meet Amy you're in for a treat. She's one of the most down to earth ladies that you'll ever meet.

Amy and her group have an ally!
None other than the comic strip Mallard Fillmore.
Our local newspaper, The Daily Press, carries this strip, and Mallard has been doing an analysis of the DC Gun Laws as they pertain to the law abiding gun owner trying to defend his home from an intruder.
BTW, How does the Brady (a Reagan aide) anti-gun philosophy square with the conservative Republican outlook? John McCain is clearly in the opposite camp.

You shouldn't disparage pigs that way . It is much easier to get a pig to stop wallowing than it is to get a liberal to admit they are wrong .
With a pig, all you have to do is provide them an alternate way to stay cool.
