I was curious if anyone knew someone who had a Hawaii LTC.   I know they are about as scarce as hen's teeth.  If you know of someone what was his occupation and reason for getting a LTC.  Rich and well connected, multiple attempts on his life or what?

I visited Maui a few years ago and had considered taking my handgun along, just to have in the room of the condo where we were staying at.   That was until I read some of your laws.   Your gun laws make those in Illinois seem good by comparison.

Granted we are one of only 2 states that doesn't issue any LTC at all, and Wisconsin the other state, does allow open carry.

Here in Illinois we are making some progress toward getting "shall issue LTC legislation" passed.    This year the Illinois County Sheriff's Association came out with a resolution backing LTC legislation.   Our big problem of course is oppostion from Chicago.

At least under current law, outside Chicago you don't have to register your firearms.   You can "transport" a handgun in a case, such as a fanny pack on your person, unloaded with a loaded magazine in the pack, sometimes referred to as "6 seconds from safety".    A caution to visitors this might get you arrested if found out, but I know of nobody convicted for UUW as even the Illinois State Police website says you can transport a firearm with ammo in the case.   I've been doing this for years BTW.  Problem is ignorant law enforcement who don't know the laws or enforce what they think the law should be.

I'm curious can someone with rural land in Hawaii set up a "private range" on their land?   I and neighbors on both sides of me have "private ranges" here in Southern Illinois (south of Interstate 64) only requirement is can't fire a gun within 200 or 250 feet of a dwelling.   No we have no zoning here in our county, didn't even have to get a building permit when I built my house.

Me and my wife did enjoy our stay in Maui BTW, only thing that would have improved it would have been better gun laws.

From a conversation I had about 6 years ago with an official at the state Attorney Generals office. Hundreds of open carry permits are issued, but they are almost all (if not all) issued to security guards and armored car drivers.

Concealed carry permits are suppose to be on file with the Attorney Generals office by law; however, I was told that chiefs do not forward a copy, so the answer is unknown. That being said, he believes that there are a few out in some of the counties. I think they are issued to political hacks  because the bottom line is that the average person is NOT getting a carry license in Hawaii. Even if you did, it's only good in that county.

I didn't realize if you got one of those rare LTC in Hawaii it was only good in your county.   We had a county here in Illinois that was considering issuing a LTC for its county in the past year.   Reason being the state legislature won't pass a LTC bill.   It's lawfulness was in debate and eventually the idea was dropped.  You can pass ordinances more restrictive that Illinois gun laws just not less.   Example of course is Chicago.

Yep, Hawaii 134-9 is the carry statute. It says that a permit is valid only in the county of issuance. Being that there are counties in the state, you would need (aint gonna happen) 8 different permits in order to carry whether concealed or not in the entire state. It would cost you $80 a year. But like I said, good luck.

Best as I can tell...1) issued in Maui to a private citizen for undisclosed reason, and 1) for the civilian armouror for the Honolulu Police Dept.

All other permits in the last 15 years, for concealed or open were for work-related purposes, i.e. armoured car personnel, security guards, etc.

With the recent court decisions in the Ninth Circuit and SCOTUS, were going to get that changed soon.

I had heard about that civilian armouror having a LTC.

Hope things get changed for you guys,  I'm a member of the Illinoiscarry.com/forum which is working to get shall issue LTC in Illinois, along with the Illinois State Rifle Association.

Here in Illinois nobody gets a LTC.   Mayors, Village Presidents, Alderman, and Village Trustees are allowed to carry if they go though training.   They are considered "convervators of the peace" Even that some legislator tried to eliminate, didn't go through, but they got the training requirement raised from 40 hours to I think 400 hours, same requirement as for regular police officers.   Another catagory is marshals and deputy marshals.   One city had a number of auxillary police who I believe were deputy marshals, which would mean they could carry while off duty, with training.

The city with the auxillary police saves something like $100,000 a year by using these volunteer civilians.

I have heard that there are some rich civilian folks who have invested in private investigation agencies who can carry.  They are considered management and carry 24/7.   Things are always easier if you are rich.

I need to email some of my friends in Oahu, but for the amount of military people on the island like 500000 it would prob be a good idea to just scarp ccws in hawaii and just be an OC state with no bs. Less soldiers getting busted for guns and more meth heads in custody to get into treatment.
and ex mayor harris in custody to dirt bag.
