| I think the answer is typically NO. But can someone confirm if I can O.C. while in Iowa, away from city limits?

You cannot carry a loaded handgun in a car in Iowa, without an Iowa CCW. The popo will arrest you!
Iowa will not recognize any other states CCW license.

| What about carry on motorcycle whats the laws in your state for that.Ill be traveling right thru I-80 Up I-29 to south dakota where i can finally legally carry again.

Iowa law is specific in that it states the firearm must be either broken down or completely cased and secured and have no loaded magazines in your possession. If you are packing a 1911, well then you'd better remove the slide from the frame and have the two in separate compartments of your saddlebags. You had better unload your magazines too. If you're packing a revolver, empty it and put it in a case in a saddle bag, not readily accessible. If you get stopped inform the officer that you are carrying a cased of broken down weapon if they ask. Most will probably not care, so long as you don't act like you're reaching for it. If they ask to see it tell them where the weapon is, and ask if they would like you to retrieve it, or if they would like to. Although giving them permission to get the weapon is essentially giving them permission to search your belongings.
483A.36 Manner of conveyance.
No person, except as permitted by law, shall have or carry a gun in or on a vehicle on a public highway, unless the gun is taken down or totally contained in a securely fastened case , and its barrels and magazines are unloaded.

I will add that reasonable effort to render the weapon not readily accessible or usable is also consistent with the law. So if you had the gun unloaded and wrapped up in some clothes in a saddlebag, that could be construed as rendering it not readily able to fire, etc.

724.4 Carrying weapons.
f. A person who for any lawful purpose carries or transports an unloaded pistol or revolver in a
vehicle inside a closed and fastened container or securely wrapped package which is too large to
be concealed on the person or inside a cargo or luggage compartment where the pistol or
revolver will not be readily accessible to any person riding in the vehicle or common carrier.
Iowa Code

any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he
may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is
unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is
directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That
in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment the
firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment
or console.
