I watched the video from Fox news Louisville. I mean come on!!! An open carry event to educate people that open carry is legal and you have to show the COPS that your weapon is unloaded I'm so glad I didn't go!!! Does everyone reading this understand that carrying a gun is a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT? What a crock of s^&% this event was!!!

Here's what the uneducated viewer of the news story now knows: You can openly carry a gun, as long as it's UNLOADED and a COP checks it!!
NICE EDUCATION

Wow kinda scathing from someone on the opencarry side. I will not speak for the pastor but I do not think this event was some grandstanding event to show how open carry is legal in the state of Kentucky. He is a CCW instructor and I would guess he would be more involved with that area of gun carry. This was in my opinion after going and chatting with several people that guns are a right and are a part of the history of this great country and we should be proud of that heritage. We should stop being ashamed by our love for guns and should stop allowing others to frame the argument of gun carry and ownership. We should be doing that ourselves.
He challenged the media there to make sure they are covering this issue fairly. I doubt he naively believes they will convert overnight but calling them out on their unfair misconceptions is a good start.
Also the level of chatter that has gone on is a good thing; yes it is completely legal to open carry a gun in Kentucky; and in some parts it is not rare to see that but in some parts it is and you will still generate a man with a gun call. How about he made people talk about this all over the world. There was a piece in a china news agency on goggling this event.
I am sure many would have been happy if this had just been and opencarry event with no conditions but then maybe it would have never happened at all because the church would not have been able to afford the insurance for the event.
Maybe this is a good step for showing that guns and gun owners are not the enemy and just because there is a gun on someone’s hip does not mean that person is a danger.
I will take from it a fun day chatting about guns and family with some patriotic music and discussion of policies towards guns.

| I'm not blaming, etc. anyone for how this event went down with restrictions and all. How about some of those 200 come to lexington for an open carry litter pick up. You won't be checked by police and you can carry loaded. If we get that many here for a litter pickup-the media could not ignore it. OR how about a few of them come to an open carry picnic here-probably next month-just watch this site...no one will be checked by the police!!!

| I don't know who the gentlemen were at the safety tent, but neither identified themselves as LEO, and I never got checked by any deputies. They kept their distance, walking around and mingling but never appeared to intrude on anything.

The Louisville Fox station's report said the security people were cops. Also, "they kept their distance, walking around..." What were they waiting on? For someone's empty firearm to jump out of the holster and shoot someone Sounds like they doubled as babysitters .

Sounds to me more like the security people were there in case the Brady Bunch or Greenpeace decided to attack the flock knowing that they were "unarmed".
