Walmart, Baker, Louisiana, April 4th, 7PM
The wife and I were doing the WalMart thing when I  noticed a 30ish black male and a 40ish tall white female, both approaching from two different directions. The female wore a WalMart name tag, the young black male didn't.  Yep, as we approached the salads, the male spoke first. "Sir, are you a law enforcement officer?"  After chuckling, I made it quite clear I was NOT "one of them," added, "thank God."  When he told me I couldn't be in there wearing a gun, I politely asked "why not?"
Works every time. He stuttered and finally got out "it's our policy."  At that point, I asked that we walk over to the office and let him and/or her call corporate. That suggestion caught him off guard. He said he would later, I insisted we do it now !!  While he tossed that around, I went ahead and told him what corporate would say. "It's the policy of WalMart, nationwide, to follow the laws of the state in which each store is located. "What I am doing is perfectly legal in Louisiana, you're more than welcome to call the cops if you want."  (I immediately realized most cops don't even know the law, won't do THAT again).  Finally, the lady spoke up. "Sir, ya'll enjoy your evening at WalMart," turning to walk away. The young black male appeared to be store security. HE stated "I've been doing this for years, I've never heard of this."  I again offered to go to his computer and show him the law, which he said he'd do later.

Love it, Mark.  Keep it up.  I'm doing same.

Had similar incident at Siegen Walmart with their Dick Tracy.  He's a Oriental guy around 35 that always walks around in civvies with a DVD in his hand trolling for shoplifters.  When I told him to call superiors he couldn't find any by phone and I walked on my way with my 2 sons and never heard anymore.  He's seen me since(carrying) and never said anything else, even with deputies in there for shoplifters, etc..

I got the "police officer" line today.  This was the first time I OCed for a considerable length of time other then at my own property.  Today would have been my mother's 73rd birthday and I wanted to get some flowers for her grave.  I just got a new CQC holster, so I decided to take it for a trial run, keeping everything in mind I've learned from folks on this board.

I stopped at Winn Dixie on Airline Drive to get flowers.  A few people noticed, but no one said anything or had any overt bad reaction; and the checkout girl simply smiled and said, "Have a nice day."

I went to the graveyard to put out the flowers and noticed that a recent, adjacent burial had caused my mother's headstone to sink on one end and get covered by mud caused by all the rain we've had recently.  So I went into the office/funeral home on the property (Garden of Memories) to report it.  There was a funeral in one of the parlors, and as I walked up to the door, a mourner also came up.  I smiled at her and opened the door.  She smiled back and said, "Thank you."  I know she saw the gun because that was the side she approached me from.  Inside, the staff took no notice of the gun while taking my information, but while I was talking to them, the groundskeeper came up and introduced himself, saying he had overheard my report.  He said he wasn't busy and would fix the stone if I'd lead him over to it.  So I showed him where it was and he had a crew fix the stone.  While we waited for them he asked if I was JPSO or NOPD.  I told him, "Nope, just a private citizen."  He said, "Oh?" and then dropped the subject.  We had a nice conversation about some vandalism troubles he had solved for the cemetery by putting in a taller fence and I thanked him for doing such quick work on my mother's grave.

Then before going home, I stopped in at Walmart and Sam's for stuff my wife had asked me to get - again with no problems.  I'm fairly certain the off-duty JP Sherrif's deputy doing security detail there noticed, but he didn't react or follow me around or anything unusual.

In other words, I had a normal day and no one seemed to mind that I had a gun on my hip.:)

Thanks to Mark and LACarry for their very informative posts.  You helped me prepare mentally for a possible legal encounter that didn't happen, but for which I was ready.

You're welcome, buddy.

I have carried in front of more LEOs in the past week than I have ever noticed before.

Not even a sideways look, so far.

Been OCing for a couple years, still not one problem.

I do carry myself respectfully and professionally, though.

Glad to hear everything is working out.

I got asked yesterday.  I wondered how long it would be before someone asked. As usual I was OCing my Bersa .380 in a Uncle Mike nylon holster on my right hip. I stopped at a convience store near home for some ice cream. The asian guy working the counter asked as he handed my change. "Are you a cop?"  I told him, "Nope. Just an average Joe like you." and walked out.  Before that I had gone to Computer Heaven (in Baton Rouge near Cortana Mall). Did the geeks ask about my gun?  Nope, they were smiling and happy to make a sale. Then I went across the highway to Accurate Police Supply for some Freeze +P pepper spray.  The guy in the shop never raised an eyebrow.  I went to several other places that morning. Except for the guy at the store around the corner, nobody asked anything.

And that's the way it SHOULD be.  If I ran a retail business, I'd be more concerned over someone wearing baggy pants, a NY Yankees cap on sideways, gold teeth and jewelry equally obnoxious vs someone openly bearing arms.

Been about a year since have gone into Barneys in Lake Charles.

WHen they opened here I went, bought a belt and  and bought a 3.5 connector but almost walked out. Big sign on door, no loaded weapons .....well I connect the dots here. They are all about cop sales so I know the sign ain't for them.

Made a few more trips, one I asked for a 2 oz Top Cop ( OC ) Streamer, was told sorry we keep that for LE, are you LE. NOPE, then no Streamer for U.

LOL

OC Nazi

Next time they won't sell me Winchester Ranger, thats LE only.

OK...Some  TAP 's then    :what:

Oh no thts definently for LE only, LOL......Eff U, I can buy them across town whats up with U ??

Well they say they are mainly for LE  :banghead:

Dam.....I'm not a thug, don't look like a thug, nearly 60 YO and  got a screwd up leg, I mean, LOL I ain't a threat to nobody, It'd take me 30 min to hurt myself.

Finally figure out screw these guys,

Added them to my wouldn't buy it there if my mama wanted it list along with Gator Guns in Sulphur, another headcase shop

No gun gunshops........life is too short to deal with no gun gun shops
