Well Mr. Security guard, it is illegal for an off-duty sheriff to give legal advice. You should put out a notice not to let him back in the store.
Or how about,
Well gee, if I am breaking the law shouldn't the sheriff have DONE SOMETHING about it?
Amazing how easily some people are fooled!

Was told by Security Guard in 12 Oaks Mall in Novi that they would call police if they see anyone OC in premises. He stated that it was against Novi city ordinance to carry a handgun. I informed him that if there was an ordinance against carrying a handgun in Novi, that it is unenforceable because state law can not be overruled concerning this topic.
I wonder what they would do if everyone met there for tea...
On different occasion...
Went into Auto Zone, Pontiac Trail, in Walled Lake with my long time friend (also Oakland County Deputy Sheriff) while open carrying. Once in the store, the manager asked "Why are you open carrying in MY store?". I replied, " I didn't know you owned Auto Zone", and shrugged his question off to see if he was trying to establish my authority to carry a weapon. He was. The manager again asked " Why are you open carrying here? Are you Police?". I replied to him " No I am not police". He then asked me to remove my weapon because it was illegal to open carry without a CCW. I informed the store manager that it was not illegal to open carry in Michigan so long as you are able to own a weapon. I then informed him that the correct acronym is CPL. He then stated something like " We will see what you say if the cops come here." I then informed him that they already were because my friend was a Oakland County Dep. He seemed mad. He said he has a "CCW" and there is no need to display his weapon. I asked him if he had ever heard of OpenCarry.Org and gave him the information to the site. I thanked him for helping us to find a part for my car.
We left with no further instance.

Bit of positive news from me for once. Today I OC'd at National City Bank in Lincoln Park with no problems. Then 3 Salvation Army Thrift Stores (Garden City, Dearborn Heights, and Romulus respectively). Pretty sure I got a 50% discount because the cashier thought I was Military / LEO due to thigh rig. Then DAV (Disabled American Veterans thrift store) in Westland. After thrift shopping my girlfriend and I ate at Wendy's in Dearborn Heights and finally I bought socks at Walmart in Taylor. All while OC'ing and the most I got from anyone was a bit o' eyeballin.

I work in 12 Oaks and asked about this before. They just told me that they would ask me to leave the mall and return without it or CC. I have educated some of the mall cops about the law, but turnover is very high. I CC there all the time except when at work (against TMO’s policies)
I also have been in the same Auto Zone with no issues.

So you carry in 12 Oaks Mall with no problems? I wonder how difficult it would be to contact the mall security corporate office to educate them or see if they would change their policy's on the OC issue.
I have also been in the Auto zone many times without any problems before. This was first time.

OC'd while trying to find the deer I hit with the jeep. Apparently he was scared and ran off. Had a typical Stockbridge friday night party, all the neerby townsfolk came out and helped look for him. Nothing but tracks, fur and some chunks of flesh where I hit him
State Police answered the 911 call for the report for my insurance, nothing was said and I made sure I stood in front of the headlights so there were no "suprises".

| Took my daughters hiking at Wouldumar nature center in Lansing this morning and open carried the whole time. Not too many people out there so I'm not even sure if anyone noticed. I talked to a few people out there but noone ran away in horror.

OCed a few places today.
OCed at the Vandercook Lake Animal Clinic, then to Menard's (where the power was out, but they had a generator running the registers. I wondered if the security cameras were working). No issues.
Oced at Midas in Ann Arbor off of Jackson Rd. and into the Olive Garden in Ann Arbor. No issues.
Stopped at Quizno's in Vandercook Lake on the way back home and OCed there too. No issues. A very uneventful day.
Plan on OCing at Walmart tomorrow to help Cabman with the food drive.

OCd to Saginaw today with Banger so he could get his first handgun. Met up with some MGO members he was buying it from at Gander Mountain. Wandered around GM before they got there, no probs. While we were out in the parking lot making the transaction Yosemite Sam and family drove up and had a nice conversation.
Left GM and went to lunch at Famous Daves, best BBQ Ive had in a long time.
Went to Sheridan Arms, all their stock was at the Mason gun show so nothing cool to look at

OCed in front of Walmart helping Brian, Cabman, and Kimberguy with the food drive. 2 Blackman Township cops pulled up just as Kimberguy showed up OCing his AK-47, but they went inside. We assume they were there for a shoplifter.
Left there and OCed at Meijer and Kmart in Jackson. No issues.

oc'ed out to erskine marine in hope twp (north of sanford) while dropping off boat to be winterized. lady was awesome and sarcastic when i asked her about some parts. positive she noticed and so did the other 2 customers in there. no problems.
oc'ed inside of winston's pub in midland after 2am when everyone was gone, i had left my laptop in there and a magazine. by then i had armed myself and wasn't gonna disarm, so i walked in with all the security gaurds around. nothing was said. i wont oc in there during the club night though, because i like having my sound system out there, so i dont want to compromise that.
oc'ed at lowe's in midland. i know people saw, nothing was said. had my gf with me (hah... i finally found a gf that didn't run away from me because of my beliefs!! known her for 5+ months now... together for 1+ months). a guy came up asking if he could help, he helped me find what i needed and i went back up front and purchased. people in line behind me definatly saw... unless they were completely blind. i had to face the cashier and reach over a 4x8 sheet of plywood to swip my CC and my strong side was facing those in line. nothing said there either.

Open carried my holster at a range tonight with slowdog, and no issues, other than one guy staring me down, when he noticed it... and one of the range operators did ask if we had them holstered or not when we came in, and we didn't, we complied with their rules... I shot slowdogs 44 magnum... VERY COOL!!! might have to get me one of those... LOL... also shot his other handguns, but, we didn't have time for our long guns... guess we just have to go back!!
Then open carried my holster into Whole Foods market, (don't have CPL yet, they sell alcohol) no issues there either... a few looks...
