Chris has asked for our help in defending himself.

His attorney, who is active in Michigan gun rights, has given him a significant discount but he still needs $500 in order to start the ball rolling.

This is a fight that impacts us all especially those who live in or visit Michigan.  A conviction here will encourage other localities to pass or enforce their own preempted ordinances in the face of the state preemption law.

I know that everyone here has already reached deep into their pockets for the Texas Billboard Fund but if we can help him get the initial $500, there is every reason to expect that Grand Haven will dismiss the charges and return his firearm.

I have contributed $50 and so has Skip.  This leaves us with only $400 to go.

Please consider helping as this is a fight that we cannot afford to lose.

I will update this thread with the running balance as contributions come in.

PS.  If we exceed $500, then the excess funds will be used to pay his additional legal fees in case Grand Haven actually takes the case to court.  If the case is dismissed, then funds will be returned based upon the date the donation was received.

Thanks!

Donations may be made via PayPal

or via mail.

Please note that Skip Coryell has graciously agreed to use his White Feather Press PayPal account for this effort.

If by mail, make check payable to Chris Fetters and mail to:

How do we contribute?

Edit: Also, I would like to propose that any excess funds be deposited into an interest-bearing account, and reserved in the event that another member of this group face a similar problem in the future.

I think thats an excellent idea!  Maybe we can have a page specifically for donations to a fund that provides legal rep. to the people in need.

To contribute online, just click the blue word "Paypal" in the message above yours from John.

It's a hot link to paypal where you can use credit cards as well.

That is an interesting idea but Mike and I will have to discuss all of the legal and tax implications of holding money in an account for such purposes when we are not a 501c not-for-profit.

I will keep you all informed ...

In the meantime, let's get Grand Haven back in line!  :)

Interesting how 40 gun owners carried openly a couple of weeks ago in Hastings, MI without too much hassle. ...strength in numbers...defense fund is a good idea.

Grand Haven is still in shock over the recent robbery/murder in a downtown jewelry store in July.

I currently have $4.00 in my paypal fund. Being disabled i get paid (so to speak) once a month. My payday is the 16th. Will add funds and send away on payday. This is a more than worthy cause.

Everyone says that old cliche "Every penny counts", and people dismiss it as a cliche.

But the point is that every penny does count, as it is one more penny available that wasn't there before.

It doesn't matter if you have 1000 spare dollars, or just one.

When you start combining them together, that is where the magic is.

Same thing with voting. If you don't think that your one vote is enough, fine. Go find 9 other people that think the same way, and make sure they have a reminder and a ride on Election Day. And if you don't think that 10 is enough, have each of them get 9 of their friends to give you a call, and you organize them together.

If that still doesn't satisfy your bug (and believe me, it won't), then convince some of them to stand on a corner with you, and wave signs and hand flyers.

The funny thing about this organizing thing is that once you get started, you just don't want to stop. Mostly, it is because you can actually see the results, and know that you can do even better if you do just a bit more.

So, Warlock, to you I say, 4 bucks or 400, thanks.
