Note to Open Carry Members:
Please do not reply in this thread.
This Thread will be dedicated to only OC events throughout the entire State of Michigan. I will be updating (adding & deleting) information to the events for as long as I'm able to do so. I only ask that you please be patient and understanding while I make attempts to keep the events updated and as accurate as possible. I am not the computer guru that I'd like to be.
Also, Mike has suggested that the OC Events in the thread consist only of who/what/where/when, for example. And, I will include maps, addresses and phone numbers, where applicable.
Any members who have questions/concerns/suggestions for implementing and maintaining this thread, please use PM so that the thread remains focused on the events only. In time, I will be adding other contact information so I may be reached other than by PM.
MOC-RTM's, in all regions, need to keep me informed of all upcoming events and changes you will/have made for the event.
Any OC Members who plan to attend an event, please PM, phone, email, the RTM in your region to let him/her know if you will attend and what you will be able to contribute (food, literature, etc) to the event. The RTM for your region, at that time, can contact me so I may keep the OC Event for your region updated.
Thanks
Randy: OC-RTM, SE Region

Thank you for the recent email. I am very sorry for the confusion that took place at our retail location.
Our corporate office has taken action in regards to the below mentioned issue and here is what has been decided.
We have made the decision to comply with state laws in regards to open carry. We do not ask customers to check concealed or open carry weapons where the state has laws governing this situation. Our signs refer to firearms that are being returned or sold to Cabela's.
If you are still having problems please feel free to let us know

Dear Mr. Ross:
Thank you for contacting Toys R Us regarding the recent tragedy in our store. Naturally, we want our guest's to be safe and feel confident while they are shopping. We adhere to the state law of whatever state a particular store is located in since the governing laws regarding gun control vary across the country. At this time I have not been notified that this will change though I can not guarantee that it won't in the future. I invite you to submit your concerns to our corporate head office for further attention.

Dear Jerry,
The Home Depot Customer Care is in receipt of your email. We appreciate you taking the time to email us. Our general policy is not to ban customers from carrying firearms on the Home Depot property in those states having a concealed firearm law, provided they are carrying the firearm in accordance with the applicable laws.
If the firearm is not concealed in accordance with the carrying permit (typically that means concealed and cannot be seen by members of the public), it is up to the manager based on personal comfort level to approach the individual directly and request them to leave the premises or to contact local law enforcement for purposes of having the individual removed. Thank you for contacting us.
Sincerely,
Ricky

Bass Pro. Inc. Clarifies Policy – Open Carry Welcome!
OpenCarry.org (OCDO) is pleased to announce that Bass Pro Inc. advised OCDO co-founder Mike Stollenwerk by telephone today that open carry of holstered handguns is as welcome as concealed carry provided all federal and state laws are followed.
After being contacted by OpenCarry.org (and apparently some of our almost 20,000 some thousand members) about sporadic inconsistent treatment of open carriers at some Bass Pro shops, Bass Pro’s Manager of Communications Larry L. Whiteley asked OCDO co-founder Mike Stollenwerk for more background information and some time to straighten things out.
Stollenwerk advised Whitely two weeks ago that open carry is legal in most states, usually without a permit, and that Sportsmens’ Warehouse and Cabelas have adopted clear corporate policies welcoming open carriers in their stores just as they do concealed carriers. Further Stollenwerk noted, it’s better to adopt one clear corporate policy than allow individual employees make up store rules or give legal advice to customers, i.e., the proverbial but well meaning, “psst, hey, you gotta cover that up, it’s the law” kind of thing, which can get gun owners in trouble for breaking the law and unlawfully concealing (e.g., in Wisconsin where no permit to conceal is even issued).
Well today Mr. Whiteley called and confirmed that Bass Pro’s policy is and “always was” to be to respect lawful customer gun carry, concealed or open, and that steps the following steps are being taken to ensure this policy is understood by all managers and employees, including production and distribution of training videos as well re-drafting of signage pertaining to guns.
OpenCarry.org is pleased that Bass Pro. joins both Sportsmens’ Warehouse and Cabelas in clarifying to OpenCarry.org that open carry is welcome in their stores as a matter of corporate policy.

MOC Food Drive event. Looking for organizers/volunteers.
Would anyone like to take charge of organizing a food donation event? The event would include participants of this forum as well as members of MOC Inc.
We would need a location where people can pull up and drop off goods, something like a cooperating food store parking lot. We could let people know as they go into the store and ask them to pick something up to donate. A weekend would be best.
We would also have to decide on what food bank we will be collecting for and work with them. We would have MOC banners as well as brochures to hand-out and of course we will be OCing.
If a couple of people want to lead this event let me know and MOC will help out with a press release and members assisting with the event.
This would be a good PR event just before Thanksgiving. Thoughts…volunteers????

Open Carry Spring 2010 Second Amendment March At Lansing
Skip Coryell, the founder of the March, has asked me to be the Michigan Coordinator for the Lansing March next April. This is a great opportunity for MOC to shine and show our support of our gun and personal rights.
I want MOC to be the driving force in organizing the Michigan March next April in cooperation with the National March in DC. To accomplish this goal I will need a great deal of help at the grass-roots level both from members and the officers of MOC. Together we can make a difference.
We need volunteers to help with the planning of the state march. We need people to organize Second Amendment Town Hall meetings in their communities as well as help plan the State Capitol March.
All they have to do is click on the link and fill in the info.

If you have any questions about planning a town Hall meeting PM me.
Thanks You All.
Brian Jeffs, President MOC
The mission of the Second Amendment March is to galvanize the courage and resolve of Americans; to petition our elected officials against establishing anti-gun legislation; and to remind America that the Second Amendment is necessary to maintain our right to self defense.
It is the one right that protects
all others.
We will accomplish our mission by a peaceful march in Washington DC, the United States Capitol, supported by satellite marches to State Capitols and smaller cities all across America.
