I was notified today that my family is spending Thanksgiving in Dillon MT.

Any advice on OC while there? Coming from a complete GOLD STAR state I will have to downshift I guess in my OC capabilites. Not as much freedom from what the postings I read had to say.

The only thing I know is that the people we are going to stay with had mentioned elk hunting. I don't know if that means they are going elk hunting, or if they want us to go with them. So if they are going, can I OC my handgun with me? Or does it need to be Absent? What about my rifle? Can I OC my AR with me? Even if I don't plan on shooting anything other than rodents?

Thanks for any advice. This will be my first trip to MT other than the Yellowstone National Park sections many years ago.

Deer/elk season goes till the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  AFAIK you can CC anywhere outside of city limits and you can OC anywhere, as long as there is not a city ordinance forbidding it.  I doubt there is such a law in Dillon.  So your handgun is kosher while hunting.  I'm not sure about the AR.  You might want to check the regs at MT FWP http://fwp.mt.gov and DOJ http://www.doj.mt.gov.  Happy hunting.

Thanks for the advice. I guess that I can OC almost anywhere I plan on going.

On the AR while hunting; I'm not going to be hunting, just tagging alont. Means that I don't go anywhere without my rifle, why would I there.

Bourne,
OC everywhere, just remember that CHURCHES are a no-fly zone for any form of carry in MT if I remember correctly. I want to say that there is one other place like places that serve alcohol or something like that... look it up! :P
Have a safe trip.

Ive had my AR in the rear window for a while now, no problems..

OC all you want! No banks Bars Courthouses

If your not hunting you still should wear orange, And I sugjest you get your conservation licence!!!!!

Other than that you should have an uneventfull trip ( Law wise ).

How long does it take to get your conservation licencse? I will only be there for three days so if it takes to long, then I wont have one.

You can OC in bars. What you can't do is concealed carry anywhere alcohol is served. Even if not in the bar section of a restaurant.

Somewhere close is a thread in which I posted the reply from the MT attorney generals office about OC and places that serve alcohol.

The likliehood of going into a bar is almost zero, but that is good to know that OC is legal in them.

Shouldn't take long just go to local sporting goods store and ask If not (fwp.mt.gov)

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've been here since Thanksgiving morning. No problems so far. Only one store I went in had a no guns sign but that store has a bad rep anyways.

No city in Montana can forbid OC, as it is state pre-empted.
