“If a citizen wishes to do so, a firearm can easily be carried openly for everyone to see." - - Columbus, NE Mayor Mike Moser

Unfortunately Columbus also has William Gumm as their police chief:
Gumm said "Legally people may openly carry a handgun now, but it may draw attention to that person and they may have to talk with law enforcement regarding why they feel the need to carry."

P.S. The link is now dead, that was the original source. Columbus is one of the most gun unfriendly cities in eastern Nebraska. I am not going back.

Do you need to talk with them about your need to vote or speak your mind? Chief Gumm, enforce the LAW not your opinion.

It would be a short conversation:
"I realize you're just doing your job officer, but in the absence of my attorney I have nothing to say?" "Am I free to go?"

With a very polite and pleasant demeanor, one can say "I understand you've been told to ask this, but my reasons for carrying are very personal, and I really don't want to discuss it. Am I free to go?" You might even want to quote the mayor to underscore that you know that OC is COMPLETELY LEGAL.

I don't see much of a problem. The chief did say, "may." He didn't say, "definitely."
But, of course, if the chief's officers get too too pushy, then it would be a problem.
Anyone report any problems in Ohio since February?

In the spirit of polite and pleasant demeanor I'm trying to figure out a way to say "Get Bent". Since I don't live in NE it's not that big of a deal.

How pushy is too pushy? Would his statement be acceptable to you if it was about any other civil right? How about these?
they may have to talk with law enforcement regarding why they feel the need to vote Republican.
they may have to talk with law enforcement regarding why they feel the need to marry a black man.
they may have to talk with law enforcement regarding why they feel the need to be a homosexual.
they may have to talk with law enforcement regarding why they feel the need to be a Christian.
Our rights are OURS and we do not have to talk to any authority about why we feel like exercising them. To do so would be giving them authority they do not, and must not, have over us. Any public official that thinks I need his permission to exercise my rights can kiss my ass!

I don't see where the chief is requiring permission.
