I am aware of no law in Virginia that prohibits drinking while carrying, however, it is unlawful to be intixicated while carrying, and the term "intoxicated" is not clearly defined. Thus you may get away with a glass of wine or beer, but I'd advise against it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...sorry for invading a NH thread.
That sucks about your tavern owner, guys. Looks like the FSP had better get to work on the liquor tyrants up there!

I don't know about NH, but in VA there is a tradition of getting around liquor tyrants... it's nice to see the moon light shine on the Shenandoah...

When any 3 of the 5 commissioners agree to do so, they can suspend or revoke a liquor license for "the safety of the public", however they choose to define the phrase.
The Chief of the NHSLC happens to be a tee-totaller who would be very happy to see prohibition return.

I don't see how that's a puritanical attitude. If I'm going to carry the means to end the life of someone assaulting me, I want to have the best judgement possible available to me. It's just as reckless to be armed while your judgement is impaired as it is to drive a vehicle in the same condition.
Are we reading the same post? He said that because he carries 100% of the time, he now drinks 0% of the time. 0% of the time means never. Why would you caution somebody that tells you he never drinks not to drink?!
As for the liquor license thing, isn't there some authority above them?

It is not a violation of Virginia law to drink and carry. That said, it might be poor judgement as it would make your defense more complicated should you have need for council.

Your state legislatures may be your best bet. There is entirely to much power in the hands of the liquor tyrants. Being able to handcuff an owner of an establishment for "the safety of the public" however the commissoners choose to define the phrase, smacks of BATFE and gestapo tactics - make the rules up as we go along..... and them change them. Its more trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

| I have OC'ed into 2 pizza places that serve beer (1 in Milford, the other in Jaffrey)....never a problem...walked past some cops too in Milford, they looked at me but said nothing....

While the controversy has largely blown over, Keith (the owner) has set down new rules for OC in Murphy's: If you open carry, don't drink; and if you drink, don't open carry.
Last Taproom Tuesday had several people OCing again, which was good to see.

The 21st amendment really gave the power to the states when it comes to liquor. You can appeal from the SLC to the Superior Court and then to the Supreme Court. Of course this takes time... time is business.
I think Keith's rules are quite fair

When you do manage to get a Tuesday night off, we'll be here. 
People have largely gotten used to it by now, except for the city bureaucrats (see other threads for more activism here).
