After seeing the Nightline last night got me thinking, Why don't we here in New Mexico do the same. It would be a good thing, to get to meet the rest of you all, and 2 to see how bad Channels 2,4, 7 and 13 can screw up the report!!

I'd also attend an OC picnic if it was in ABQ. Anybody organizing any OC litter pick ups in ABQ?

I wouldn't be super excited to pick up trash either, but to raise OC awareness in the community, let people know its perfectly legal etc, I'd be down for that.

| If you tell the Media in advance they'll be there and you'll get all kinds ogf chances to edamacate some folks. Might even get some birkinstock wack jobs carrying signs too.

You could mark me down as interested. My work week changes all the time and often I have late hours but if we set this up for August then I could get time off. Prolly....
If you want Berkenstock weirdos then we could have it up here in the Santa Fe.....

Well if we could get a date narrowed down this could be fun. Lets toss out some dates. August or September would be great. September s not as hot.

| I'm visiting NM, but we're very seriously considering moving here; we're both retired and love the state! I am a licensed carry permit holder from TX. Please tell me about the open carry or the movement for it. I'm a little confused about it. Thank you, Alan

Yeah media attention is great as long as they don't put a spin on it... (ABQ Journal)... And protestors would be a bad thing because it could lead to some form of abuse on either side whether it be verbal or physical. There ARE idiots out there who would be dumb enough to try and start something to get the media to portray OC or even guns in general in a bad light. Maybe one (or more) will try to take someone's gun (although stupid) and then if a fight breaks out or even a gun be drawn, even if it were legally to protect yourselves, you know who the media will side with.
But I would be for a picnic of some sort. Maybe even to a restaurant that does not sell alcohol...

New Mexico is very nice and most LEOs seem to know much about Open Carrying. Many people do not know it is legal to open carry. In my case, many people think I am a cop or something. Those people who do know you can OC and do OC seem to be pretty good folks from what i have met. A few shooting buddies and I OC after shooting when we grab a bite to eat, but that is the extent of a group OC that I have known. Mostly you can carry anywhere that isn't federal, state or school or where there is a sign (Can't carry in places that sell alcohol, like gasstation, but not a problem if u pay at pump). Most businesses do not have signs, such as McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc... I have, however, had a few problems with the local Mc Donalds and a couple oc mouthy anti-gun cashiers (is that what they are called, cahsier??) and complained to the store manager who was also agaisnt guns. Manager told me I couldnt carry there, but Corperate Mc Donalds says it's okay.
I OC everywhere and if I cannot carry I do not shop there. I carried into Gamestop and found that all of the employees own guns, love guns and didnt know you could OC and now OC, which is good to see.
I have never really had any problems with open carrying, besides one time someone called the cops, in which they made sure i wasn't a felon and in the end found a new shooting buddy.
If you have never OC'd the first time feels like everyone is looking at you or the cops will come anytime, but it is actually not that exciting. Most people never notice your sidearm. And if you are not dressed like trouble you will most likely never have much of a problem.

Yup there are plenty of idiots here in New Mexico, sometimes I think more than our fair share. But I do think a nice OC picnic with our families, in one of the smaller parks would be great. Now I would not want to do it in Los Altos park, that would be bad considering the idiots that hang out there. Perhaps something inthe late fall, since the weather is still nice in Albuquerque, or maybe another city.

Washington State OC members sponsor a 2 mile section of I-5. There's nothing like OC'ing a BFR 45/70 while picking up trash.

So lets make a plan for this OC Lunch / BBQ / Get together.... Anyone know a good place to hold it? I would say anywhere but southside.... Don't want some gang members thinking we are invading their "turf" thinking we are a rival gang... Maybe Rio Rancho or even out in Edgewood? If it's a restaraunt, please make sure they do not have a no gun policy / sign. I am not totally understanding of the laws here, but in Washington State we could OC in public places such as parks regardless of "No Weapons" policies because of the states preemptive regs.
I went for a hike out in the Petroglyphs and brought my gun, but the sign said that there was a no-weapon/gun policy. I don't think I would feel safe walking those paths without my pistol. It would be the perfect place for some gang-bangers to hand out and mug people. In fact as my family and I left, there were 5 punk looking young adults walking down the trail. Maybe they just enjoyed hiking, but they didn't look dressed for a hot day hike. Pants near their ankles and such. Really looked like a group of gangbangers.

Edgewood would be good. I live there!! Eastmountain Grill does not have a no firearms policy, and neither does Jenks Cafe in Moriarity.

I think an OC picnic would be a good idea as well. I live in Grants, NM but I am often in ABQ.
I think positive news media would be a + to the OC community. I'd like to make it if it happens but don't plan around me.
This may have to wait until spring due to the weather.
I also like the adopted highway idea...
