Thanks!

I'm going to take a run out that way tomorrow to get the pass taken care of, and see where everything is. I don't want to repeat JDriver1.8t's experience. :)

On another note, welcome. Come on out, i'll be the guy jamming up .40's yugo.

Don't worry about it. No harm done.

I keep picturing those econobox cars from the mid 80's when I hear that word. :what:

I drive a rectangle so i'm not sure if I can begin to insult anything that looks like a box, but those aren't the most desired cars I would dare say.

It's about time to find a good interstate sign or two. or three.

Did you find it ok? head straight down the gravel road when you get on it.

Note to everyone who is a first timer... if you get to the entrance of Uwharrie National Forest you will be going down a paved road, off to the right you will see a little parking area after like the first half mile and a gravel road going to the right, take the gravel road, if you keep going straight you just hit a trailer park and a dead end.

Also you will not see any signs for the shooting range until right before you get to it, it will be a smaller sign with an arrow. Just follow the gravel road... it is straight on, do not turn or you will lose at least 10 minutes, trust me. I'm pretty sure you will be on the gravel road for about 10-12 minutes, and I will say again... THE ROAD IS RUTTED UP, last time it was the worst i've ever seen it. Just go straight and you will eventually get there.

If you feel I have confused you, there are maps at the gas stations that sell the passes. I'm not sure about el dorado but I stop at the gas station at hw 109 and river rd and the people there are really nice and will help you out.

I'm about ready to shoot off at least 400 rounds of 7.62 and hundreds other pistol calibers. And heres a emoticon...:celebrate

Edit: anybody want to go halfsies? http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Semi_Automatic_Goryunov_76254R_Rifle.html

DON'T GO TONIGHT!

I hope I caught you before you went out.

Apparently the range is closed for maintenance until further notice. I found out when I stopped at the Eldorado Outpost to get my pass.

I asked for an ETA on the work, and the woman told me to just call first. 910-572-3474 is the number at the outpost.

I still checked out the range. There was a guy in a dozer shoring up the berms. That was as about 14:00 (+,-)

I wasn't headed out, but that is good to know. Hopefully the work isn't anything serious.

I don't think it is. He was just moving dirt around. It's probably just routine maintenance.

Heh! by the time I dragged that thing from home, there'd probably be no wheels left! It's a little rich for my blood too.

After I got home just now I checked the weather reports. Looks like we might have to keep an eye on it again. Last time it held out... hopefully it will be the same.

If you're looking out for ammo, from what I can tell from last week a huge shipment went out sometime around wends. and was in most wal-marts by thursday morning. I'm not sure if this will happen again but I'll be on the look out. I've made a few contacts at some of the wal-marts in the area, gave out my phone number to employee's to call me if they some ammo... man I need to find a less expensive hobby and stop trying to be an ammo detective.

If you don't mind mail ordering it, try this site: http://www.ammoengine.com/find/ammo/9mm

It looks like it's starting to be more available again. I looked a couple of months ago, and there was next to nothing listed.

I realize it's too late this time, but in the future Graf & Sons has a $4.50 flat rate shipping that's hard to beat!

Oh yea, I appreciate that Don. I like to purchase things in person for the most part, but if it gets scarce again i'll venture on the internet.

I've got about four or five wal-marts within 15 miles of me so as errands and other things take me around I just stop and check the ammo section.

It looks like sunsets around 7:30, so i'll probably be trying to get there around 5:30.

I'll probably go a little earlier. I guess I'll have to watch the weather after seeing some of the roads last week. I keep kicking myself for getting rid of my truck, although the 40+ mpg IS kind of nice!

I would love 40 mpgs right now. The roads are def. bad enough dry, and it can get pretty bad around there if it rains a couple of days in a row.

I'll be the goofy looking young gun with the glocks and ak 47s, in a white jeep cherokee, weather permitting.

I'll be the guy in the gray Honda Civic. Haven't decided exactly what I'll be shooting yet. I almost hate to use up all of my center fire until it's easier to get primers!

Have you heard anything from .40 cal?

Edit: I almost forgot. The range is open again. I called the ranger station earlier today.

He'll be around, as far as I know.

I don't know .40 very well but from what I can tell he works hard, and has his family to contend with on top of that, and then this obession we all share with him, so i'm not surprised he hasn't posted in the last couple of days... I'd be willing to bet he will soon though and will probably still be coming.

The trick is to get his family interested in the hobby. My wife doesn't like to shoot, but has no problem with me shooting. Sometimes she even tells me to go! :D

If you're still coming JD, let me know what route you're taking... just in case you encounter some problems i'd like to be able to help somewhat.

Also, if you have access to a GPS the coordinates are:

N 35 degrees, 25', 37.48"

W 80 degrees, 4', 5.55"

Those will drop you right in the parking lot. :celebrate

I've never gone in that entrance since i'm coming more from the south, I checked it out throughly and it looks good. Just keep your eye out once you get to 1154 it looks like your directions get the hardest there, but it keeps you on paved roads longer than the entrance I take.

If for any reason you miss that entrance, not but two miles down the road is the entrance I take, I believe it is 1153.

If you miss the turn for 544 and keep going straight it will be fine too, you'll intersect with the road the shooting range is on 576.

Most of the signs for the forest roads are small brown signs, keep your eyes peeled.

Other than that I can't offer any more advice, other than have a safe trip and watch out for those speed traps.
