I was thinking it may be time to have a nice OC picnic now that we can legally carry in state parks.
I was considering the Bi-Centenial Mall in Nashville, near the capitol building.
Any thoughts?

| I believe state parks law does not take effect until September 1st.

Did Dresden sign the State Parks carry bill into law? Dang I missed hearing about it.
A picnic sounds good to me.

Nope, as soon as he signed it state park carry was legal. Local Parks start Sept 1st.

Now that we know that things are legal. When would we want to try to do this? I was originally thinking of July 4th, but that is about 2 weeks away and on a Saturday (when I work).
I'd love to do some Monday holiday (so I could attend without falling asleep).
Anyone have ideas?

Be careful on Bicentennial Mall. I have just looked at the bill that passed, and I did not see anything in Senate Amendments 2 and 3 (what ultimately passed of SB0976); but I have seen elsewhere that somehow Bicentennial Mall and one other state park were exempted. As I said, I don't see it in the language, just be careful.
The text of the amendments (I don't see specific state parks mentioned anywhere):

I believe the exemption for Bicentennial Mall (and maybe others) you mentioned were going to be a compromise if the bill was recalled and changed by the legislature.
Since it was not recalled by the Senate no changes were made from what you posted.
So AFAIK since Bicentennial mall is a state park, carry should be legal there now.

I hope so. Sounds good to me!
ETA: Confirmed this with an attorney Tuesday night. All state parks are good to go!

So, do we want to try to do something?
The 4th is about a week away (if we want to go for high publicity) or we can discuss other dates.
I'd love to do this, but if I'm the only person there OCing I don't think it will get the message out.
I'd love to be able to (metiphorically) "stick it" to the Nashville City Council.

if you have a valid permit from a state recognized by TN, you can. It takes a permit here to carry at all, OC or CC.
I'm game for a picnic at the mall, no real restirctions on when for me.
Regards,
Pol
