Hi, Guys!
Big Ugly from the High, Wide, and Lonesome again.
When someone asks about my weapon one of the things I tell them is that I am, by virtue of being armed, willing to put my life and well-being on the line to provide for their protection as well as my own. Then, simply ask them if they are will to do the same for me. You should see some of the looks I get in response.
Not sure what it would be, but, can this sentiment be incorporated into a flyer?
Later,
Big Ugly

Here's what I came up with (the second one being closer in wording to Big Ugly's recommendation.)
"Criminals crumple under pressure. In many shootings across our country, the presence of a gun in the hands of a good citizen has saved many lives, as the criminal often flees the scene, wanting not to get shot at himself. Open Carry provides these benefits without firing a shot, as many criminals who see a gun already present will flee before ever committing the crime. We don't want to open carry to 'brandish our firearms', we want it to protect and save lives that might otherwise be lost."
Or
"Our desire to Open Carry is to protect. By virtue of being armed, we are willing to put our life and well-being on the line to provide for your protection as well as my own. Would you do the same for me?"
Come to think of it, the second one is short enough to fit on a shirt.

What about having an image made that would be a good size for lawn posters like you see during election time? Something members could print out themselves and distribute as legal. Lawn signs should be cheap. That is what politicans use for mass image coverage. Might not be on the freeway, but they could be in every neighborhood covered by our membership and on every corner of intersections.

Howdy, Adreniline,
Thanks for making use of my previous post. If you want, I might even be willing to be your 'poster child' - provided you don't mind having a big, ugly, scary, black leather, motorcycle type on your poster. Might show that even big, ugly, scary, black leather, motorcycle types can be the good guy.

I had to pass on my Triple Vanilla Latte for three days straight and I'm having withdraws. I wish I could give more to this effort, but can’t really afford it right now, but I gave what I could at this moment. Besides unlike the government, I don’t forecast my revenue and then spend like a king.
I wish our cousins in Texas the best of success in this effort. Good Luck!

| I see the total has not been updated for a few days. Based on the few posts indicating contributions we could be over the top already.

I donated $10 last week and still not showing as an "activist member"
Laff, not a big deal and that isn't why I donated. I'm hoping the effort in TX pays off and that it gives us further ammo in MO to get OC pre-emption passed next year. We are all in this together.

| I did my part in in donating. Not much but any amount will help.. I could not let this opportunity pass me by. This is something I do believe in.

Thanks! john will update this stuff by end of weekend and give all contributers their recognition.
Haha I see what's really happening... John and Mike just want everyone to think we are close but not quite there... The longer it stays that way, the more people will want to give just $5 or $10 more than they already have...
No really guys we are so close... If anyone can give just $5 or $10 more dollars it would make all the difference...

| Looks like no update since the 18th. Could someone let us know how we're doing on the goal? Timely updates on the campaign would certainly help keep momentum and interest alive.

I say to heck with the goal. I'm a Fouder's Club Member and intend to send more. Send in $10 a week or month, heck send in $5 a week or month. Just keep sending $$.
I say we keep a fund for future projects. Florida, Oklahoma, and South Carolina will need our help, too. There will be a lot of issues that we will need to handle in the future.
I say keep the $$$ coming.

I didn't forget Illinois. I just didn't mention them, as well as California, New York, New Jersey or any other state that has legislators that need a crash course on 2A. We do need to pick our battles until SCOTUS says 2A is incorporated into the states and says it is our right to bear (I mean "carry") arms period.
Speaking of battles, has anyone thought about a petition for Arkansas? We need someone from Arkansas to get a petition going.
If Congress slaps down the D.C. gun laws, we need to start a petition there as well, one step at a time. OK, guys?

I am back from my business trip and the billboard page has been updated with the new total!!!
http://www.opencarry.org/billboard.html
WOW ... You guys are the greatest!!
To quote from my update:
Now that we have achieved our initial goal, we are planning on continuing to raise funds as well as investing our own money to keep the billboard in place into the legislative session if possible.
Our anonymous donor who was matching our original donations was only able to match us up to our original $5,000 so the other $650 has been all OCDO!!!
Thanks you all again so very much!

Pierce, how long will donations be taken?
Will there be an opportunity to donate at the next Harrisonburg Gun show?
