Hi All,
You truly live in a great state...my family and I unfortunately live in NJ...
Although we are lucky enough to live in rural Northwetern NJ.
My inlaws have had for 20yrs a place in Warren that we have been luycky enough to spend quality time at.
Many years ago I was a memeber of the VT-Guns mailing list and actively had my Makarov pistol with me while there when the kids were small. Haven't brought it up in a while... I alsa had communications from the VT attorney General's office that it was fine for an out of state person to have there firearm in VT. We do not have a carry permit system here in NJ just a license to own etc...the gentlemen in writing said it was no issue.
never really gave this a thought till lately....Sadly though there have been break-ins of homes in the area....and this year due to work contraints I cannot be with my wife and kids every time they get away to our 'sanctuary' and I am a little concerned.
Has anything changed, to the best of your knowledge, that would preclude my wife from keeping a firearm in the house while visting for protection should something happen?
Hopefully the wackos from NJ/CT/MA will stay out of your State long enough to allow your replublic to take shape....I hope to be out of here myself in the next 5-7 years and move to VT.....
Thanks for any insight....
Later
Nick

If you are legally allowed to own a firearm then you are allowed to possess it (concealed or openly) in Vermont. The only restrictions on where you can have it are:
Federal Buildings
State Buildings
School Buildings
School Buses

No problem.
Though there really is no need to keep any permits or documents with you.

I know...BUT in case it is needed for some odd reason God forbid it, should there ever be an issue...
I am at least getting up there these two coming weekends...then a week in late August...I think my wife and kids are thinking every weekend and most all of August this year...boy are they lucky...
Be safe....

There is NO license or permit needed in Vermont. You can carry concealed and loaded anywhere on your person or vehicle. I have only seen open carry in the field. All you need is a valid dirvers license on you so a police officer can identify you. He will run you to make sure you are not a felon, person prohibited, or have warrants. That is our form of gun control. If you come back clean you are good to go. This only applies to a handgun. Long arms cannot be loaded in a vehicle due to fish and game laws.
BTW please tell your neighbors from New Jersey to stop moving here unless they are constitution and 2A friendly!

And on privately owned property where posted to the effect that such carry/possession is prohibited...

nothing has changed and nothing will ever change, it is in our Constitution.
I don't care if they move here and fit in, trying to change it into the place you just escaped from that does not sit well with us, and all the damned posted signs look like crap.
I tell them it's like going scuba diving and complaining that back on land you had all the air you could breathe...then dont go under water.
"How we did it in Torrington was..." you know, if we Vermonters wanted to know how they did it in Torrington or Springfield we'd move there. LOL>
you don't see us Vermonters moving to Ct and MA and trying to get on every board so it would be like Vermont...too bad too! LOL.
