Shoney's on Rt. 33 with Kendo_bunny and a friend of ours.

KB and I were both carrying, our other friend (who is becoming less and less of a hoplophobe as she's around us) was not.

No issues, no problems, No comments. Tasty country fried steak. Friendly waitress and manager. :)

Go figure...

This morning I replied to a post on a Manassas OC thread that I'd never been barred from an establishment for OC and what happens, I have my first negative encounter.  What makes it worse is that it was at a place I've frequented for the last 3 years open carrying, Molly's Irish Pub in old town Warrenton...  It was obvious that the staff was simply ignorant of the law...  I attempted to send the following email to the management, but found a non-functional email service and no alternative email address:

This evening (Sat 9 Aug) I stopped by to have dinner.  For the first time in three years, I was barred entry for dinner because I was carrying Open Carrying a handgun as I always do (and have previously in Molly's).  I challenged the hostess who then consulted with the Bar Tender before telling me that I couldn't enter with a handgun "because we serve alcohol and its against the law."

VA State Law specifically requires persons with Conceal Weapon Permits to carry thier weapons openly when entering an establishment that serves alcohol for consumption on the premises.  The only exception to this rule is if the owner of the private property requests that guns not be brought on the premises.  Does Molly's have a policy that bars legally carried weapons on the premises?  If so, the policy must be publish in some manner that enables the public to reasonably know of the policy.  A notice should be posted so that it is readily available on the front door or near the enterance, and Molly's is devoid of such notice.  Checking you website here, I find no posted policy either.

This evening, rather than continue to challenge your hostess and staff because it was obvious they did not understand the law, I chose to take my business to McMahon's down the street.  They welcome my business and understand the law so we eat there often.

Being a local small business owner myself (Stamp-N-Scrap LLC, Culpeper), I try giving my business to small local businesses whenever I can.  I hope this was a misunderstanding of the laws of the Commonwealth, as I have enjoyed dining with you for years.  I wish to continue, but if your policy won't allow this, I'll go elsewhere.
I'll attempt a voice call this comming week, but for now, be forewarned that if you try to eat at Molly's, they don't get it, and the "mouth breathing" stare that you get when you explain the law, tells me that it may be a bridge too far...

OCed Chart House Pier / Marina again (Old Alex)...pretty much normal to start at Founders Park, past Chart House, up King street, back down to Starbucks (no Mayday...lolol)....

Positive experience at Founders Park. Cute chica walked up with the 'excuse me'...I'm thinking 'Uh-oh'.. :P

She says she lives in DC and it was 'REFRESHING' to see a dad, daughter and dog walking the pier with a pistol Open Carry. Says her dad lives in Ga and has a CHP, but she wanted to know the regs in Va and how I was able to 'walk around like that'.

She'll prolly move outta DC and seemed extremely excited about the Open Carry laws here.

One statement I always use, not sure how true it is, but I feel good using it, is that I'm 1000 times less likely to be assaulted than someone who insists on being a 'willing victim'.

If I can carry, I do.

Edit: 5 Guys Mt Vernon again......(daughter loved the burgers)...cuppla 's...nutn said tho

We had dinner at the Red Lobster in Denbigh (Newport News) tonight.  I OC'd, either no one noticed, or cared if they did notice.  I looked for and did not see a "No Firearms" sign.

We didn't drink any alcohol.

I OC'd this weekend while out with a friend. I told him of OCDO and how I OC'ing in support of the 2nd Ammendment. We were headed to the range after we stopped for lunch at Carrena's on Richmond's south side. My friend told me to leave it in the car, I told him no. He told told me it's illegal to go in a resturant serving alcohol, I told him it wasn't OC'ing. He drove around and left his in the console of his truck, I informed him THAT was illegal, since he does not have a CC permit. Were total opposites, but it's cool we get along. On that issue, He would be voting for OSAMA-OBAMA, if he could. He's not a citizen yet, that's one less vote!!!

Went out to get school supplies for my youngest daughter last Thursday. Was CCing until we went into Chipotles near Potomac Mills, so I had to OC when i entered the restaurant. Was just getting carryout, but had to stand in line for about 20 min. several saw my Glock 26, especially since I was wearing a white shirt behind my black pistol. no reactions from anyone. Love those Burrito Bowls.

OC'ed '5 Guys'- Mount Vernon (US-1)

Police Officer on a bike was clocking people and had the bike running next to the road. I walked by him and got the double take head nod. Gave back a half salute and continued. After the half salute he tucked away the radar gun and dropped the kickstand. My impression was 'Uh-oh, here we go'.

In the next instant he was out in front of a truck pulling the truck into the lot for, you guessed it, a speeding ticket.....

Non-event. He was gone after a great burger...;)

I'll walk the Pier / Marina / Founders Park [Old Town Alex -King Street] at 1500 this afternoon [Tuesday]. GF and Chessie pup in tow if anyone's out and about. :D
