Playfully teased by my waiter this evening. "Of course you like John Wayne movies. You're wearing a holster." (Neat way to avoid mention of the sidearm.)

Was in downtown Alexandria today but I carried concealed under a sport coat. Was heading to The Trophy Room on King street and didn't feel like being hasseled, or possibly losing both my Beretta pistols in some incredibly stupid incident, as I was carrying one in a case to ensure the parts I bought fit properly.
I thought I'd heard Alexandria cops aren't up to speed on OC.

| Today, went to Walmart, needed a sprinkler and a pedal for a bike. Got sprinkler, no pedal, no harrassment. Location Fair Lakes plaza. Went to Modells to see if they had one. They did not, but told me about a bike shop at the end of the fairlakes strip mall there past the Walmart I was just at - next to the Bloom. Went in and retrieved said pedals for $11. Left without incident.

| Did some running around today for the wife. Went to Union Mill Pediatrics off 29/28 interchange by the fire house. No issues, little one is healthy. Went to Fairfax Radiology over by the Innova Emergency Care off 28 S across from Centreville Multiplex Cinemas, no issues. Proceeded to Fairfax Childrens Hospital off Arlington Blvd in Fairfax to drop off Xrays, no issues. Easy day.

OC'd at Blue Ridge Arsenal followed by Famous Dave's.
It was downright hot at BRA this evening! It's no wonder I don't go there during the summer. Hot as hell and almost zero breeze.

Headed out this morning OC'ing on such a fine early fall Sunday. Dropped off a deposit at the Wachovia in Somerset (a PWC cruiser went by about 50 yards from me but he didn't notice my little friend).
Then to the BP station next door to fuel up. As I was heading back out to my car from the store, the young lady in the fuel isle next to me saw my sidearm, stopped filling her tank, and went into her driver's side to make a call on her cell phone. Had to wonder if she was reporting a "man with a gun".
On to the new Harris Teeter at 15 and 29 to drop off two applications for their discount card.
Then to Target in Gainesville for a few things.
Off to the Expo Design Center in Fairfax to look at some new gas grills.
Then back to Five Guys in Gainesville for lunch inside (it was pretty crowded).
Nothing strange happened. No comments, no stares (of which I was aware), and no one asked me to leave. Just a pretty normal day of it.

OC'd this weekend in Woodbridge. Went in Target, shopped for a while, spoke to employees. No one batted an eye. Then went to Best Buy, same thing, no problem. Drove to Ikea next to Potomac Mills Mall, walked through the parking lot and then noticed their no firearms sign on the door. Went back to my car and secured my weapon and went back in. It wa too crowded and I didn't want to be hassled - I just wanted to get in, get what I came for and leave.
The week before I OC'd in Home Depot (Woodbridge). Got a wide eyed look  from one Mother and someone's kid pushing a shopping cart. Other than that, I could have been invisible.

This weekend in woodbridge, no events, no stares, no nothing, just a nice weekend of doing what we do... 
Staples - In and out for register tape that Office depot didnt have
Office Depot - In and out that turned into a wondering around for 20 minutes trip, never saw another person out on the sales floor.
Target - never a hassle there, but I know just about everyone there.... i'd like to see them ask me to leave there.... 
Walmart - usual wandering around
Smokey Bones - for gift cards
Sheetz - gas and drinks
7-11 - a few times
Home Depot
Lowes
Good Weekend all in all!!

OC'd at McDonald's this morning.
A young woman asked about the sidearm. The usual questions--need a license, and so forth.
I took the opportunity to remind her about women being particularly vulnerable to crime, asked a few questions about her qualifications, and suggested a CHP.
We chatted for a bit, and she decided right there in front of me that she would download the CHP application off the State Police website after work TODAY!
Wait! Not finished, yet!
A few moments later a fella came over to my table to chat about the time when he carried his .357 regularly!

That is exactly why I hate Ikea, and their stuff isn't all that great either.

Fairfax Home Depot - Off Pickett: Random Encounter
I was looking for shelves around the storage section and leaning to get a better view of the stuff at the end of the aisle down which I was looking. Behind me I heard someone say "You got a license for that?" in a jovial tone. I turned around and saw a Home Depot employee approaching with a smile on his face. I smiled back and said, "No sir." When his face changed to a look of puzzlement I continued, "The wonderful state of Virginia requires no license for any of it's law abiding citizens of appropriate age to carry a firearm openly on their person."
Emp: "You can just walk around like that?"
Fox: "Yes sir."
I should pick up a voice recorder for situations like this, as TEX1N has started doing, so I can remember what all was said. He was incredulous at first and seconds into the conversation another individual in the bright orange aprons walked by and said to the other employee in a very nonchalant manner "It's legal to carry one in Virginia." and then to me, all while walking "Just ignore him..." and then just before disappearing down another aisle he quipped, "...or use it on him!"
Emp: "Can I see it?"
I shifted to the left to let him see the holster while maintaining my distance.
Emp: "So you can just go anywhere with that?"
Fox: "Anywhere that isn't a federally operated building. Can't go into post offices or court houses."
Emp: "And you don't need a gun permit?"
Around this time another employee walked by and joined the conversation, saying, "He'd only need a permit if he had it covered." I nodded and the first employee looked even more amazed. I was rather impressed by the overall general knowledge of the Home Depot staff. This employee listened for a bit before wandering off to perform his duties.
Emp: "I thought you were an undercover cop."
Fox: "Well if I were undercover I'd be carrying concealed."
Emp: "Er, yeah, not undercover. Uh, I meant....ah...."
Fox: "An off-duty officer?"
Emp: "Yeah, that's it. Off-duty. Because they have a license that makes it so they're allowed to carry."
Fox: "Well I'm sure a lot of them do carry, but they don't need a license to carry one. I don't think any such license even exists. I think a lot of people just assume people they see open carrying are off-duty police officers and go about their business. Whatever helps them go about their lives."
Emp: "I've been here twelve years and I've never seen anyone do that before."
Fox: "Yeah. It's a shame more people don't exercise this right."
Emp: "Oh no! I don't think everyone should do that! I don't think they should be anywhere but special places, like shooting ranges."
Turns out the employee was rather anti-gun. A nice guy all in all, and I remained professional throughout the conversation and stated that while I understood and respected his opinion, I simply didn't agree with it. The conversation was very cordial, and we discussed a number of things, including the safety of Fairfax, the recent loss at the Fairfax City Police department, safety on college campuses, and Virginia Tech. After I asked him to put himself in the shoes of the students who were trapped in a room with a gunman blocking the door he professed he saw some logic there, but deemed the overall consequences of everyday carry to outweigh the benefit of stopping a psychotic killer...just not as eloquently as I have stated it here. He said he wasn't at all worried about my carrying because I seemed like a very respectable person. I wasn't there to change his mind and he seemed pretty adamant in his belief, so I kindly asked him where the shelves were, shook his hand, stated that it had been a nice conversation and we went back to our lives.
The whole conversation might have lasted 5 minutes.
I love educating the public.
I'm gonna go install those shelves now...

Apparently every Friday night in Sterling, VA in the Lowe's parking lot there's a car meet. Old American muscle to ricers (like my STI heh) to exotic Lamborghini's & Lotus's. My friend found out about it through his G35 club, and I decided to check it out tonight. It was pretty awesome. I OC'ed walking around for about 2 hours just talking to different people, and checking out some of the horrible tricked out Scions before joining a Sherrif next to a Dodge Viper asking the owner just a couple questions. Not even a second look from the Sherrif.
If you do go, be careful in the parking lot, while most of the people there are nice and courteous, there are a bunch of high school kids who rev their engines and peel out when they're leaving. Saw a car or two get pulled over for that (thankfully). Other than hooligans, no worries. Gonna hit up the next one next week, and believe it or not, most of the compliments I got tonight were for my gun, not my car (since it's mostly stock). > )

i know for sure if you go to any 7-11 or any place even if that place been robbed, cops wont probably say anything because the way u dress and operate. Especially the day you went to the Mason.

My waitress on Saturday evening didn't seem to care for the sidearm. "That's scary," she said. I still tipped her well. Perhaps she'll come around. We'll see how it goes next time, if I can remember her name to ask for her.
I was later playfully teased by a grocery store cashier. She's rung up my order a few times before, but didn't notice the sidearm until Saturday evening. She said she was going to get a gun for herself in case I got out of hand as a customer.
