Glad it went well.
I missed the part where you activated the recording function on your voice-recorder.

One suggerstion is the Olympus VN-5200PC digital recorder ($62 at Radio shack). Capacity is 35 hours high quality recording. I press Record before I leave the house, and slide the Hold switch to turn off all the buttons while it's in my pocket. Easy to erase at the end of the day, if there is nothing of note.
Also, the audio files can be downloaded to your PC with the included cable.

I agree completely. I'm just pointing out that enforcing the rules isn't the same as following them, and someone who doesn't practice following them much will likely get them wrong.
IOW, range masters should spend a lot of time shooting in addition to the time they spend as range master.

Perhaps he's from one of those places that considers a holster as concealment?
No, I think he was urging concealment over openness.

Most all of the range masters at the IWLA I go to are very good. But there are times when I have spoken up to a member or guest because I saw them doing something wrong and/or against the range rules. All we need is one mishap or negligent accident and we could be in real danger of being forced to close up operations.
For example, a few years ago a three-minute-to-clear (cold line) was called. This means you are allowed to finish up whatever ammunition you have in your magazine or cylinder, then put the firearm down, unloaded, mag removed, action open, and muzzle forward and wait for the "range is cold" call. There was a man about four lanes to my left who did all of this, but he had three fully loaded magzines out and next to his pistol. I mentioned this to a range master who just kinda passed it off. But I disagreed with him. To me, unloaded and safe means not only the gun being unloaded, but no loaded magazines within reach of the gun should be present, either.
I have seen guests handling firearms when the range is cold (a real no-no) as well. The simple fact is, range safety is not only for the obvious reasons, but also to try to prevent mishaps that could lead to closure which I am sure there are people on the Fairfax County board who would love to see that happen.

Went to Old Town Farmer's Market, Alexandria City Hall. Big crowd. No problems.
Mentioned to a couple of people who asked about my pistol that open carry without a permit is perfectly legal, and on the Fourth of July, an excellent way to celebrate our freedoms.

Grapeshot,
You may as well put the exact same thing on the Hampton Roads section. I live on the Peninsula and am going to attend. Its not that far for us to go, so I'm going.
Thats a very nice, well-designed invitation you put together there... May as well keep spreading the word, Brother!

Total Wine & More in Springfield. I was concealed 'cause of clothing choice, but spousal unit had his 1911 in his shoulder rig.
No issues, as usual, in the store. Got watched like a hawk by a gent sitting in his car in the parking lot as we left. That's all. Just watched.

OC'd at My Cell (Verizon Wireless retailer) in Kingstowne at 6:30PM. No issues with me carrying. One of the guys asked if it was a real gun. Three of us (two employees and me) talked about guns for about 30 seconds, but I was looking for a new phone so it didn't go into too much detail. The guy who asked if it was real also mentioned something about Maryland gun laws, and he said that that a Maryland rarely gives out permits because of all the crime. I said "if they gave out more permits maybe crime would go down," but he didn't seem to think that would happen. That's about the point where the conversation about guns ended, unfortunately.
There were about 5-6 other customers that came and left while I was there, and nobody said anything. I don't think any of them noticed, though.

| OC'd at the Kingstown Walmart, the Springfield Best Buy, Rose Hill 7-11, and on my motorcycle in route to all of those places. No issues. The security guy at Best Buy seemed to notice, but didn't say anything about it. The man in line behind me at 7-11 kept looking down at my hip then finally started a conversation. After a minute or so he revealed he was carrying an H&K concealed.

I sometimes carry my H&K CC, but wasn't me. I haven't been in NoVA in at least a week...

OC'd at the Giant on Arlington Blvd in Jefferson right before I headed to work. I frequent this store often, and have never had an issue.
While staring endlessly at some snack items I did not need, a gentlemen called out to me from the eggs section "what is that?". I said "excuse me?". He then pointed to my sidearm, and approached me. I smiled and stepped back, because he approached me very aggressively, and I stated it was a Glock 23.
He smiled, and saw my defensive movement, stopped and stated "nice choice".
He then struck up a conversation about CHP, and his guns. He also stated that he would like to see more open carry, since he supported self defense as a former LE. I told him I agreed.
He started asking about requirments for CHP and so on. I told him about the training documents I submitted, and that there were online courses (He was amazed that you could train online), and that he would have to apply at the Circuit Court and the judge would issue the permit.
Taking the opprotunity to help further educate, I told him about this website, and others. I mentioned that he could do his research on this and other sites, and that since he was a retired LE, he was already up on gun safety and proficiency. He said something about retired LE's having to qualify with each weapon they own. I told him I know nothing about retired LE requirments.
As it was getting time for me to head to work, I shook his hand and told him to enjoy the rest of his day.
Again, thinking about educating the masses, I thought "hey I have OC cards", I reached in my wallet for one, but none were there.
So, I checked out and exited to my car where I found my stash of OC cards (Thanks ED!!!!!).
I returned to the store, and approached the gentlemen, asking if I may interupt his shopping for a minute. He said sure, and I gave him the card and told him it would help direct him to information and he could research the topic.
Left the store with a smile, and headed to work!
I felt this was a positive encounter!

Can anyone guess where I OC'd today?
Yep.
Guns and Ammo Warehouse
and
Virginia Arms
I'm not going to find any nice used guns if I don't make it out there every week!
Also OC'd at the McDonalds on Pennsylvania Ave. (the one off of Nokesville Rd, not in DC)
