It's ashame. I didn't discover this site until after the incident. Had I been on this site before that I would have known what to say and do from all the wonderful stories here. Next encouter with LEO and I'll be better prepared.
More details please.
Who detained you? The police or the Walmart Security Guards?
Why were you disarmed?
I have often OCed in Walmart (Battlefield ) without a problem.

Neither. It was Black Friday. LEO was in the store when I arrived. There were 3 LEO at the front door, which I walked passed. They looked at my holster, looked at me, I nodded and they nodded back. No problems. There were 2 LEO in the back of the store. They are the ones I had the trouble with. As soon as they saw me they came up and asked for my ID. I was unaware that I didnt have to show it, so I gave it to them. While one asked me questions the other grabbed my arm, put it behind my back and took my gun from me. I did know that they were not allowed to disarm me, and I informed them that I was aware of this. I was polite and respectful the entire time. The response was, "Sir, you are getting aggressive. This is for our protection." At that point I figured I just better keep my mouth shut and play along.
After they found out I wasn't a felon and that the gun was mine, they walked me to the front where the 3 other LEO were. They asked what I did and the 2 said "Nothing, we are just checking him out." I could actually see the look of shock on the other LEO's face. So I guess to cover for their buddies they told me, "Any other day and we wouldn't have said anything, but this is Black Friday."
And, one of the funnier points, as they were walking me out to my car (the 2 original LEO's that I had trouble with) they said they noticed I had hollow-points in my gun, and they are illegal for anyone to carry except for LEO, but they weren't going to press the issue now. I figured they were just trying to make it seem more like I was doing something wrong so I didn't write any nasty letters that day. While scouring the internet to see what information I could find on open carry, I found this site. So, all's well that end's well.
I am now glad I'm aware of the laws.

catpOOp,
Since you are new to this site, I assume you haven't read all the posts on the various recent incidents with the Norfolk Police. I have referred to the Norfolk Police as slow learners, and this is probably more gracious than the truth....that many of them are ignorant and supremely arrogant. It may take some months, but there are some lawsuits in progress as we speak that should bring their department and the city council up short. From what I heard from other Norfolk citizens at the council meeting last summer, the lawsuits are long overdue, and will bring some much needed bad publicity to a department that is out of control.
I've OC'd numerous times in Norfolk, and never been hassled (so far). I doubt I'd have given the cops a hard time because of the horror stories I've heard first hand about them, but the "hollowpoints are illegal" bull@#$% really takes the cake, and I'm sure I would have pointed out to him that I know better, and so should he. His comment just added insult to injury. Perhaps he was from the PRNJ.....
While I hope I'll never be victimized by those fools, I still intend to carry any way I see fit any time I go to Norfolk, and I hope you will too.

The Norfolk officers are taught better than this. I'm VERY sure that the trainers would NOT teach officers that hollowpoints are illegal except for LE in the state of VA. Sounds more like a case of individual officers making stuff up as they go along. I will pass this on to Norfolk's training staff to make sure this type of nonsense doesn't happen again. Did you happen to get the officers names who were responsible? Let me know and I'll pass the info on to their supervisors.

Saturday,
DMV Newport News.
East Coast Gas station Rt 17
West Marine
Smitties
Winfree's (Picked up a new pancake holster (nylon to knock around it)) The winfree's are great folks. Lots of used gunz!
Took my little 7 year old Grandson with me, as we where getting ready to leave the house I strapped my Kimber Raptor on (I pick the gun I want to carry like the wife picks out her shoes ) little buddy watched for a moment and disappeared, he came back a minute later with his silver Colt cap gun I told him stuff it in his belt and lets go!
All day long I had my little buddy in tow with a Col Colt style revolver stuck in his belt and me with my Raptor... we got some looks by the soccer mommies we encountered...

Yesterday 5 January:
Wendy's Aberdeen Rd Hampton
7-11 Corner of Powhatan in Hampton. Police and Fire Dept. were on the scene tending to a confused homeless man (I think he was a Vietnam Vet.) I asked if a citizen could help with a ride to a shelter or something like that. Police said no, ambulance was on the way to transport him to a medical facility. Very sad to see. I wish we had better care for vets that need significant mental health treatment. The gun was a non issue. Hampton PD obviously saw it, but did not even ask, even though it was late on a Saturday night.

S&K Menswear Lynnhaven Store. Nary a word from either employee, even when the seamstress helped me with my jacket to get it fitted. Gotta look good for Lobby day

| Norfolk: OCed in Havana Restaurant and along Granby St to/from my car. No reaction from anyone. Note - I normally CC, so "OC" for me is an untucked IWB at 4 o'clock, so it's not very noticable, and the people who do notice are likely to be behind me.

He never said a word about my firearm.
Could it have been Shiatzu??
Not sure if that is correct spelling or not but I think so.
