TACOMA, Wash. -- One person has been killed in the robbery of an armored car at a Lakewood Wal-Mart.Eyewitness Tito Brown said the robbery took place just inside the Wal-Mart as the armored car guard was signing over money.One shot was fired, hitting the victim in the head and hitting another person in the shoulder, Brown said.Police are looking for one gunman, but said there may be as many as three suspects, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty, who adds that police have made several stops of vehicles that have not led to an arrest. LIVESTREAM: Chopper 7 Over Lakewood Shooting IncidentKevin McCarty, sending e-mail from the scene, said customers heard a loud bang."One woman says she saw an eyewitness to the shooting who ran into the store crying," wrote McCarty in a message sent from his Blackberry. "She tried to help her and guided her to police who are taking her statement right now.""Police have assembled witnesses at the south side of the store, just outside. They are trying to talk to as many as possible," McCarty writes.Police say pictures of suspects will be made public shortly, and video of the robbery will also be released."Police evacuated the Wal-Mart and parking lots outside. There is also concern that the suspects may have fled to a nearby golf course," McCarty wrote in a message sent from his Blackberry.Chopper 7 shows video of police and medic units at the Wal-Mart. A crowd of people, many pushing carts, is in the parking lot.The chopper video shows a Loomis armored car is in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Police appear to be checking each car as it leaves the lot.

If you want him dead, then you're no better then he is

I was on jury duty for 6 months in Sacramento trying a man for the same crime at 2 different Wal-Marts in California. That was about 16 years ago. The jury awarded him the death penalty but it wouldn't surprise me if they released him due to crowded conditions or other such thing and he's back at it again.

Couldn't disagree with you more. One of the largest problems we have in this country is that we don't make our criminals face JUSTICE. We have the misguided feeling that they should be "rehabilitated". I wouldn't be surprised to find that these two are no strangers to the system. I could be wrong but after an incident like this it sure would make a lot more sense for them to face justice in the same manner as they killed the Guard. From early reports they wasted no time in killing him. I share jbone's sentiments.
FWIW, I am old enough to remember times when the economy was in a deep recession/depression and violent armed robberies like this became more frequent. Go back to the "Great Depression" and the crime sprees that became famous also were ended by active police efforts that produced a lot of criminal corpses covered by white sheets.

Sure I am. Give him a nice, quiet, expected lethal injection in an air conditioned, state paid for (with my tax dollars) facility with a chaplain present and a steak dinner beforehand. Don't just shoot him in the head by surprise for doing his job, leaving his widow and kids to pick up the pieces.

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more. The guy that killed my dad in the line of duty is now walking the streets. I have no time for these piss ants of society. Do it correctly but in the end put him down like the savage animal that he is.

Not to contradict. Just expand.
In the anger of the moment, don't forget all those guys on death row exonorated on DNA evidence a few years ago. Ohio I think. The governor suspended executions, it was so bad.
I'm all for having plenty of barriers between the state and the guy they are executing.
Just because the state catches somebody, and then asserts that "he done it" does not mean he did. Just think of all the garbage you've heard about when it comes to police, prosecutions, etc.
Nope, gimme plenty of barriers to the state killing a citizen.

The State was Illinois. A girl I went to high school with was raped and murdered while she was attending medical school. They put four guys away for it. Open and shut. Except the four didn't do it and have been released. Now, two other guys are behind bars for the crime.
I think you're talking about two different things. No one wants an innocent man to be executed, or even jailed. However, if they catch the actual guy who did this, I won't have a problem executing him.

Na, save the money, use a short piece of rope and a tall tree. You can use the same rope on all his accomplices. I know it's harsh, but I'm not one to play let's be nice and polite to violent murderers (or rapists or child molesters either).

I've been hoping for some time that it could be much simpler. Once convicted, the condemned would be "released" to the custody of the victim's family. They could do whatever they want with him. They could even film it for Youtube.
If a killer got lucky, they might go free. PolskiG, you could let them killers go.
If not, they might wish it could go quickly. But it might not. Punishment is the deterrent to crime.

Crowded conditions where? in the morgue? Idiots like this are the main reason it is so difficult to excersize our rights as law-abiding Citizens. I say catch them and make examples of their stupidity for all to see.
Seems to me if there were more armed Citizens within their sight, there may have been a different outcome and all there would be is paperwork to do now...

Why not put him in a forced labor camp, taking a portion of the proceeds for his upkeep and sending the rest to the victim's family.
That ought to satisfy your disgusting bloodlust (if not, feel free to add regular beatings), keep normal society safe from him, make some restitution to the family, make his productive labor available to society, and refrain from saddling the taxpayers with the burden of his upkeep. Everyone but the murderer wins!

| What extend of involvement can an armed citizen do if they happen to be near, as this is going down, and the suspect is taking-off after committed the shooting? Last edited on Wed Jun 3rd, 2009 05:47 am by Hologram

RCW 9A.16.020Use of force — When lawful.
The use, attempt, or offer to use force upon or toward the person of another is not unlawful in the following cases:
(1) Whenever necessarily used by a public officer in the performance of a legal duty, or a person assisting the officer and acting under the officer's direction;
(2) Whenever necessarily used by a person arresting one who has committed a felony and delivering him or her to a public officer competent to receive him or her into custody;
(3) Whenever used by a party about to be injured, or by another lawfully aiding him or her, in preventing or attempting to prevent an offense against his or her person, or a malicious trespass, or other malicious interference with real or personal property lawfully in his or her possession, in case the force is not more than is necessary;
(4) Whenever reasonably used by a person to detain someone who enters or remains unlawfully in a building or on real property lawfully in the possession of such person, so long as such detention is reasonable in duration and manner to investigate the reason for the detained person's presence on the premises, and so long as the premises in question did not reasonably appear to be intended to be open to members of the public;
(5) Whenever used by a carrier of passengers or the carrier's authorized agent or servant, or other person assisting them at their request in expelling from a carriage, railway car, vessel, or other vehicle, a passenger who refuses to obey a lawful and reasonable regulation prescribed for the conduct of passengers, if such vehicle has first been stopped and the force used is not more than is necessary to expel the offender with reasonable regard to the offender's personal safety;
(6) Whenever used by any person to prevent a mentally ill, mentally incompetent, or mentally disabled person from committing an act dangerous to any person, or in enforcing necessary restraint for the protection or restoration to health of the person, during such period only as is necessary to obtain legal authority for the restraint or custody of the person.

Looks like:
(2) Whenever necessarily used by a person arresting one who has committed a felony and delivering him or her to a public officer competent to receive him or her into custody;
So one can simply empty thier clip into the getaway car.
Also can one in state of WA shoot to defend one's property?

Are you "arresting" at that point, or trying to execute the fleeing criminal?
Also, you have to weigh the gains with the damage. Are you going to kill a bunch of people with errant shots? Whats your backstop? Can you hit a car moving at 40mph with any degree of certainty with a handgun at a range of 50 feet and moving away?
You better be ready to answer all these questions and more in your head in a moments notice before you do.

If the gun to be pulled…it (I) be within “really close range” of course…due to all the things you mentioned.
But is it legal to shoot to defend property in state of WA (as in TX)?

If it upsets you that the POS is better off dead , than I will settle for seeing him on the water board, once a day for the rest of his life.
