Thanks everyone for checking out this stretch of highway.   It does not sound doable as far as open carry goes.

So, I'll try to change the assigned section of road.  Not sure how it will go, but I'll try.
They gave me a list of open sections.   If someone can confirm one of these will work for us, I'll request the change.

Hwy 67   CTH "D" (East) to CTH "Z" (West)             1.85 Miles
Hwy 67   CTH "C” TO CHT "D (East)                            2.31 Miles
Hwy 67 Betts RD to Railroad ST                                   2.02 Miles
Hwy 67 Walworth County Line to Betts RD            2.15 Miles
Hwy 164 Glendale RD to STH 59                                 2.0 Miles
Hwy 59 CTH “X” (South) to STH 164 (East)              2.19 Miles
Hwy 59 Woods RD to Green County RD                  1.16 Miles

I doubt we'll have a new section assigned by weekend of May 16th, so we'll probably have to postpone the date.
By the way, the positive response for this from many law abiding exercisers of the 2nd amendment has been outstanding.    We will even have some under 21 that will put a shotgun over their shoulder and pick up litter.

I'll step up and take the first look.  I would prefer to have my results verified though, so don't let me volunteering stop anyone else.

I'll update this post as I research.

-----------

67 Z to D:
Having trouble finding this section of road properly.  This the long section that runs south from D all the way to ZZ?  I couldn't find just "Z"

If so, then this looks good.  Only one thing looked like a school on sat imagery and it's the town of ottawa park at 67 & D.

-----------
67,  "D" to "C"

Looks clear.  Town of Ottawa Park at D&67.

---------
67 Betts to Railroad

This looks like a winner.  It's on the southwest side of Eagle.  The north end (Railroad St) is just down the road from Eagle Elementary, but looks like it's well past 1000 feet.  I cannot find any more schools near 67 southwest to Betts.

----
67 Walworth Cty Line to Betts

Also looks clear, though I'm not exactly sure where the walworth county line is.  I don't see schools nearby however.

---
164 from 59 to Glendale Rd

Looks clean.  Nice, well traveled section of road, too.   I like this piece.

-----

59, X to 164

I _think_ this is clear, but if it's the section I'm thinking of (the section of 59 running west from 164) then there is a school that is close to, but not quite, within 1000 feet - Prairie Elementary is probably about 1300' north of 59 pretty much in the middle of this route.

----
59 from Woods to Green Country
(I think you meant Country, not County)

This looks safe.  There is school grounds about 1200-1500 feet further east on 59.

-----

So that's my estimate.  Anyone else?

67 Z to D  (I found Z)

There is Lakewood school South East of the area, but that appears to be more than 1,000' feet away from our area.  There are two more schools near the intersection of Z and 67  Dousman Elementary and kettle moraine middle school.  Those two schools would overlap some of our area.  I would have to say we should pass on this strech.

67 C to D
I don't see any school zones, plus after we clean up we can go fishing at ottawa lake! :)  I fish there alott when I'm down here.  This stretch looks good!  Plus I know we get alott of traffic there, bicyclist use it as a route when going through kettle moraine state forest.  The Lakewood school looks far more than 1,000 feet, I would say it's prolly 2,500 - 3,500 feet away.

Was only bale to do these 2 for now, I gotta get to work.  Give 67 C to D a look, it gets a very good amount of traffic, on foot on bicycles and cars/motorcycles.  Plus it's  anice semi wooded good looking area!

I don't know for sure if this area (67 z-d) is in the Kettle Moraine state park, but I found this.

NR 45.09 Firearms and hunting.

gun while within the exterior boundary of state−owned lands posted

with department signs in Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Jefferson,

Juneau, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Outagamie, Ozaukee,

Racine, Sauk, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha and

Winnebago counties or on state forest lands in the Kettle Moraine

or Point Beach state forests, state recreation areas, state natural

areas or on state trails established on abandoned railroad grades,

except as follows:

(a) While engaged in hunting in accordance with the open seasons

established in s. NR 10.01 on properties where hunting is

authorized.

(b) At target ranges designated by the department.

(c) While engaged in dog trials under department permit.

(d) While training dogs in designated areas under department

Here is the map of C to D on highway 67. Looks clear of the state forest.  Thanks for making me look again though, wouldn't want to screw that up.  So any further ideas we should think of rich?  I can't write in the paint application good as obvious lol.

SOunds good, I'll also be taking a drive by the section today since I'm going fishing at ottawa lake.  Kettle moraine golf club abuts a small section of 67 but I'd see no reason why that would cause any problem.

Not intending to interfere with the Milwaukee picnic thread...but...

Might be worth considering to add a cookout at Town of Ottawa park to litter pickup days.  The park is right at the North end of the proposed adopted route, and does not appear to ban carrying (hunting and discharge, yes.  Carrying, no).

Right now were waiting on Rich.  He's the one "reserving the section" for us.  I hope he gets that section.  I drove the section, it's beatiful and yes I did see litter! lol it's a decent stretch with some good traffic midday thursday.  Ottawa town hall is actually on the stretch too!

STATUS ON SECTION CHANGE:
The Adopt-A-Highway contact person at the state has been out for several days.  Apparently, there is noone else that help with a switch.  She's back in early next week, so we should know by end of the week.

We were able to get our section changed.  The Adopt-A-Highway state contact person changed us to our preferred section:

Hwy 67   CTH "C” TO CTH "D (Eastbound only)                            2.31 Miles

Thanks everyone for checking out all the areas.

Now, what are thoughts on the date for the first pickup day ?

How does June 13 or the 27th?  It gives everyone some time to  try and make it, and it should be nice and warm!  Should we have a backup date in case it rains? Or is that not suitable to many?

I vote for the 27th only because my second son will be born on the 9th (ceasarian section) and I don't think that my wife will let me out of the house.

I'm a little late to the party, but I could do it on the 27th if we decide pretty soon; summers are kinda' busy. How many times are we supposed to clean up during the year?

We have a fairly long stretch of highway (12,144 ft.), so how do we tackle it?

Dave
