Ok, let's plan on
Saturday June 27th at 10am

We have a volunteer to pick up materials (bags, vests, etc.) for us ahead of time.

We still need:
- An open carry expert to give a quick refresher on how to respond to any law enforcement activity.
- A videographer
- A media contact, in the event media arrives

Any other issues ?

I will be out of town that weekend, but this is the best date.   I'll get to meet everyone the 2nd pickup later this year.

awww you can't make it Rich?  That sucks!  I'll be in the area this weekend more than likely and will look for potential parking spots.  Could we possibly park in the town hall parking lot?

We still need:
- A location to meet, there may be a parking lot in the middle of this stretch ?   Then, we could shuttle people to both ends and have walk back to the middle (about 1 mile, we only have the Eastbound side of the road.)
....

Here's an idea. Why not just space everybody out along the stretch according to how many show up and then everybody work toward the South? That way, we wouldn't be bumping into each other or covering the same ground twice, and our sidearms would be visible from the road.

We could all drive our own cars to our particular starting point, park on the side of the road, gun up and start to work. That way, we wouldn't have to coordinate a shuttle, the walk back to the car afterwards would be shorter, and the next guy coming up the road would know he's done when he got to your car.

That plan for spreading out sounds good to me.

Also, the Adopt A Highway state coordinator corrected that our new stretch of highway includes both directions of travel.   Eastbound means the stretch goes to Eastbound D.   She was mistaken earlier.   She also said we'll get 2 sponsorship signs then, going both ways.

So does that mean 2.3 miles total or 2.3 x 2 = 4.6 miles total?

I vote for starting everyone at one end and walk together to the other end in a line.  You aren't going to "bump" into each other, there is a lot of ground to cover.  Once done, we'll drink sodas and socialize.  I have a Suburban so I can transport seven people at a time.

That's a good strategy if you're picking up cigarette butts on a parade ground, but we're just after trash and the width we'll be policing is 15' to 20' wide. Two or three guys can cover that width easily. In addition, the only parking lot is at the golf course and we'd need permission to park there.

How many volunteers are coming for sure?

Here is the map of C to D on highway 67. Looks clear of the state forest.  Thanks for making me look again though, wouldn't want to screw that up.  So any further ideas we should think of rich?  I can't write in the paint application good as obvious lol.

Can someone call that golf course and confirm it's OK if several vehicles park there for a couple of hours while they pick up litter ?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All,

Please pm me if you plan on attending the 27th. I will be picking up the supplies and would like a rough estimate on how many people we will have. I'll throw up another reminder when the time draws near.

Thanks.

So I drove our little section today.  No signs up yet.   Just north of D on the west side is ottowa park.  It's got a government building and recycling center along with park.  Looks like a lot of parking.  Maybe an alternate meeting area if the golf course won't let us.  The golf course lot was full when I drove by.

Also,  I thought you could park on the side of a highway if you are well over the white line.  There are some places along that stretch where there is room to park.  So we could meet at that park, depending how many people we have,  break off and have a couple few cars park on the side of the road in various places along the highway.  Not very wide in places.  Don't need everyone together.

I only saw a few soda cans and various car exhaust parts from driving.  Not very messy.  Some various metal parts that might break through a normal garbage bag.

I've never done a highway clean-up before, but the wife and I will be getting a babysitter together so we can be there if it's alright with everyone else.

The more the merrier?
