Hang on to this recipe in case we get lucky next time....
Woodchuck in Tomato Sauce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 young woodchuck (ground hog), cut into serving pieces
Water to cover
1/2 cup vinegar
Seasoned flour
3 tablespoons cooking oil
1 minced garlic clove
Pepper
2 cups tomato sauce
1/4 teaspoon basil
Soak woodchuck pieces in vinegar and water overnight. Remove from marinade and drain on paper toweling. Roll in seasoned (S&P) flour. Brown in heavy skillet in cooking oil. Add garlic and saute for a few minutes. Pepper meat and add tomato sauce and basil. Cover skillet and simmer for 2 hours or until tender. SERVES: 4

I'm thinking that we might have needed more garlic for the raccoon.
How long till next pic-up?
I think that particular raccoon would have probably needed to marinate a little longer, too....
So far, August 22nd and 27th have been mentioned but no consensus has been reached. I wouldn't be able to be at either one of those dates because of our 39th Anniversary and the Appleseed Project in Racine.

| I don't think that we've been sensored. Mike (or someone) moves the threads over to the "Hot Topics" area so it appears on the OCDO homepage. We got moved back to the WI forum now that the event is over and non-eventful.

I hope that all those who wanted to join us last time get a chance next time. We're going to up the ante with a real picnic for the whole family.

Easy there shooter, we're all on the same team.
I did disagree with moving it because it may have prevented a lot of WI members from seeing the thread and participating.

Now that our first cleanup day is past, it's time to evaluate the experience so we can improve it for next time.
If you have any comments about the whole event from planning to execution, please jot down your thoughts in a post or PM me if you'd be more comfortable with that.
- What was good?
- What was not good?
- What went right?
- What went wrong?
- What should be changed?
- What should stay the same?
- How can we get more participation?
- Should we have a regular picnic afterward?
- What about the rest of our families - spouse & kids at the park while we work?
- Any other suggestions?
I'll boil down all the comments I get into a list and we can talk them over. Your opinion is important!
Thanks,
Dave

I do not think this road is a good place for kids. Lots of fast cars...
I do like the sound of a picnic after we are done.
Can't wait for the next one.

I was thinking more in terms of the spouses and kids being back at the park while we worked. As you probably remember, there's playground equipment, tennis courts, ball diamonds, a beautiful covered pavilion with very clean restrooms, and plenty of lush green grass to play on.

Yeah meeting at that same park afterwards again would be cool. And maybe some of us could bring some food and snacks. But that BIG sub was good, thanks Geoff. I hope the parks more than 1000' from the 2 schools! I was surprised the first one went off without "much" of a hitch ( the original meet spot was overrun). Overrall I think the next one should be like the first, but with maybe a little more of a picnic too afterwards.

Thanks to GlocksRfun I learned that there are two schools in Dousman and there was some question as to if Cory Park fell within the 1000' school zone, so I cobbled up a map to show how close the zones approach. Our little get together after the trash pickup was legal, but just....

The park is most of the city block except for a few houses on the south and SW.
Looks like we can play tennis but can't chase a loose ball to the East without disarming.... Might slow the game down a little.

I can't wait for the next clean-up, and the idea of a picnic with the kids would be great since they were the reason Sajuuk and I had to leave so soon last time. Although, I might have to give up my spot on the road so that I could supervise at the park . Our daughter is almost 12 so maybe she could team up with her dad but there was a good amount of traffic so we'll have to see.
I think next time all that would make it better IMO would be to double check the park that was our meeting place to make sure it'll be available. But, we now have a plan B meeting spot so we'll be set
And, I'd like to have even more people to meet and make the work even quicker (to get to the partying sooner) (maybe even some more women? I know I'm not the only one out there )
We don't have opinion on the date, just pick one and we'll set our calendar. See you there....

| Love that pink gun! I am working on my wife. With any luck, she might come to the next one. I don't think she will carry, but I never know...

There's nothing like enthusiasm!
My wife is beginning to see the importance of taking responsibility for her own safety, so she may
start carrying and join us after she gets up to speed in gun handling, The Four Rules, and marksmanship.
I wondered what kind of holster you used, Sayadina, and if it was comfortable?

| Awesome job on the map Davegran. I knew it was close, glad we didn't pull a Flynn. I'll try to get my g/f to the next one. And if not, I'll stop by Hooters and see if any of the ladies there are pro 2nd. They'll get a reaction for sure. August 15ish weekend is the only one that won't work for me. I had a great time & cannot wait to get out there again.
Now for my two cents...
I actually thought the time spent on the highway was to SHORT.
I was there to support Open Carry, say HI to everyone, do a good thing, get some fresh air and show the general public that guns on law abiding people are nothing to be worried about.
I do what I can in my neck of the woods over here, but I would have liked to have been on the highway for a longer amount of time to bring more notice to our cause. We were all walking billboards, and billboards need to be seen to be effective.
I personally would have had NO problem walking the entire thing, in both directions for what I believe in (strong legs under the beergut), even if it would have been raining - how many more would have seen us and honked and/or hooted instead of the .4 mile out & back?
I'll walk real sloooooow next time.
An after event picnic would be great, as I think it would be good for the public to see us. Drag picnic tables closer to the road so the public can see our hips more clearly, I don't want them to doubt what they saw.
I have friends with guns, but they lack the testicular fortitude to gun up in public like we all did (apologies to Mrs. S - 'ovarian fortitude' maybe). That day was huge for us, for everyone that came past, we made a mark (word has gotten back to me quite a few times "friend of a friend of a friend" wise). I have had friends & strangers alike ask me "Hey where is your highway?" Then comes the open carry 'sell' . Actions speak louder than words, it would have been nice to see EVERYONE who had signed up out there - those who were ill get a free pass.
With my other thread that has the picture I took, I'd like to throw a press release together as hinted about, but have no idea how, or who to contact once I have it together.
Count me in for the next one I WILL BE THERE AGAIN. If there happens to be another baseball/soccer tourney going on, I'll be parked in the same spot on "D".

You know, that spot on "D" actually worked out pretty well! Other than burning up a half hour moving and waiting for more people (I think we should just start on time next time..) it was actually a handier place to meet, close to our section. It was great the way you all improvised, adapted, and overcame....

I'm using a Soft Armor holster it's a generic version of an Uncle Mike's style I believe, it's nice and comfy. It's ambidextrous (sp?) and has both a belt loop and a clip. I chose it because the retention strap is a snap instead of velcro, to me it feels safer, since the cops use snaps. Plus it won't wear out as easily from the constant disarming for the drive home.
I've been looking for a polymer one more like my husbands Blackhawk but I'm not having much luck
