havee wrote: I carry all the time, I even sleep with it on. Am I the only one that sleeps with it on? I live in a bad neighborhood and we have been having problems with machete wielding maniacs trying to get a few bucks. I' m new to OC since we just moved up here from FL. Went out the other night OCing to the corner store with out an issue but, was shaking like crazy by the time I got to the register. The wife and I took the kids to the park today to feed the ducks and I OCed there too. The wife wasn't happy but, I'm feeling a little more at ease OCing. I CCed in FL all the time and they make you paranoid because, even a "print" will land you in jail. There was a period of time in my life when I not only slept (alone) wearing a gun but didn't take it off during those... ummm... "intimate" moments when my lady (at that time)(uh oh... hope yooperlady doesn't read this) visited.
And it turned out to be a wise decision.
We all gotta do what we gotta do according to conditions of our circumstances. But I'll add that an honest assessment of what can be realisticly expected against what one is merely fearful of happening must be made.
Ummm... does my decision at that time during that time mean I fit Hank's new "gun first philosophy"? Or does that mean I failed Hank's old "postulate"?

near me now.
I am never far from my tools of defense, and even at work I am more than able to improvise on the spot.

I pretty much CC all the time--at home, at work, when shopping. Sometimes I will OC when I'm out and about, but generally at home I CC, because the wife doesn't really like me to be obviously carrying. And to be honest, wearing an untucked shirt over my pistol protects it against househld bumps and scrapes...

I am seldom more than a few feet from a firearm in the house. Though that has changed a bit since we now have three more people (adult & two kids) staying with us. I cannot leave them in appropriate stashes now.
Just means I need to carry it on my person more. Not a great burden IMO.

Yes, I carry around the house, yard, neighborhood...at all times.
Open/concealed depending on the situation.
With a young grandkid around, ya gotta keep it close!

I can't OC outside of my house because I live in a City that does not allow it. I OC when inside. I can't carry at all at work. I carry at all times while in the car. My wife is kinda pissed that I have been carrying around the house, but after an attempted break in last year, I don't feel silly about it.
I totally agree about having it on you with kids around. The safest place for it to be is right on your hip.

it is very true, my fiance's kids see me with my weapon on every day, she knows why i carry, and i feel the safest place for my weapon is when it is in my control 100% , hard for a 5yo to break into a lvl 3 holster while its on my belt ;-)

I either carry a weapon of have one at hand at all times. My wife would never presume to comment about it either.
Our marriage has survived 50 years because we respect each other's primacy in certain areas. She takes no interest in my guns and I would never insert myself into decisions about home decoration or anything else that we regard as her purview. Gardening for instance: My only input there is perspiration.

I always carry at home, usually OC, but it depends on what I'm wearing or how I was carrying when I left the house. If I was CCing and then go home I'll usually continue CC at home.

Always have my gun close at hand.
- How many ticking seconds does one really think they would have after he door is kicked in, or window broken through, to acquire 1) a weapon of any sort, and 2) take up a safe position to defend against the invading force, assuming other family members have already figured out to take up safe positions too, and wont be consuming any extra time or effort.
- Fact is, home invaders acting against a known occupied space will do so with a furiously fast vengeance or incredible cunning, and time afforded will be incredibly minimal, usually seconds reserved for reaction. So the mere fact that you likely will have less than a full minute to acquire your bearing, prepare a course of reaction, and enact your preventative measure to repel the invader, it would be best to have the weapon on your person, or within 3 seconds of acquisition.
- SCENARIO: Door bell rings, wife answers the door, you hear her scream (and random clamoring noise) ...... Go !!! ... It's begun... WHAT DO YOU DO ?
- Home invasion is one of the most horrific forms of crime. Can be avoided by armed citizens with a simple plan.

I definitely OC around my house (outside) and of course keep a gun close by while inside. Strangely enough, I feel most paranoid while at home. That is largely because I am a bachelor and am the only one around to defend my self. I don't have a landline phone and am often not near my cell phone or one of my ham radios (which surprisingly can come in handy if I don't have another means of communication but I'd much rather have a phone in hand).
I used to keep my shotgun close at hand but now I leave that in my bedroom near my hands if awoken abruptly and keep my sidearm close to me most of the time when inside and on my hip when outside.

If I go to the BATHROOM in the middle of the night, my gun's in my robe pocket.

My State forbids carrying anywhere else without begging for permission, paying, being put on a list, and hiding it like a common criminal.
So, yeah. I'm practicing for when I escape this dump. The Tucker Silent Thunder made for my PT-1911-AR is damn nice.
