I may still do my plowing this winter havnt decided yet, dont have to till the show hits, If i do i will just take a few jobs instead of a whole lota jobs as usual. I'm not working at the dodge dealer anymore they pissed me off so I left. umm lets see what have I forgot?

Im planning on a trip up there some time after i get this diesel swap thing done.
I did buy ALOT of stuff for fishing but it was all for the boat with company money. I am gonna go back down to homer in a week or two to build a new alarm system for the boat(bilge levels engine vitals fire, that kinda stuff). I "float" around alot work where"when" i want and so forth. if i get hired to the apd then so be it that would be hella cool. but other then that I just wander around and work when i need to.

I suppose we must spread the word about opencarry.org. I haven't really seen anyone else open carry other than LEOs.

I'm around, just haven't checked the forum in a while
I've not seen anyone OC in the Fairbanks area.
Ya'll were talking about getting a CCW to avoid background checks.....you better double check that, I am almost positive I read something in June or July that said a CCW would no longer preclude the need for a check. I can't remember where I read it, but I think it was on the state website.

So, it has been in the high 60s all this week down here in Georgia. How is the temperature in Fairbanks?

Alaskan is right. 2 thumbs up to the state for making this clear, as stated on their website, and not muddled for the masses to interpret for themselves.
Look for the flashing 'New' icon and bold blue text

Fairbanks isn't too bad this time of year. Been hovering around zero... but wait until summer and then ask again.

I spent 6 months in Chickaloon, AK back in 91, beautiful country.
If I was to do any hiking in the woods in Alaska, I would "Open Carry" a Marlin Model 1895G Guide Gun 45/70 Gov't., a brush busting, bone breaking bullet.

You didn't make sure to put it out of it's misery and provide food for the soup kitchen?
I'm thinking the tax return is going to buy something that isn't quite so showy that I might just start open carrying this summer... that super blackhawk with the 7.5" barrel is just so much gun for walking around town with. Feels nice in the woods though.

The Alaska section of this forum isn't very active. Anyway, I just recently got my CCW permit, even though it's not required. I just don't feel right OCing or CCing without one. I'm not sure which cops are pro-carry and which cops are anti-carry, so that's really the main reason I got a permit, and in case I decide to do some traveling.

Not to burst your bubble, but... regardless of how the cops feel, they are going to treat you the same whether you have a permit or not. It doesn't make it any less legal to not have the "permit."
I'll end up getting one for the reciprocity... but it's not going to change anything for going around in the state.

I have mine as well, but it was stricktly for the recipritory rights that it comes with. I also have a Wa CPL and an oregon CPL and a Ne CPL.
I have yet to run into any APD or AST officers that have given me a hard time or seemed to dislike the fact that I was armed. I did however walk into a situation where I walked out my front door walking to my truck just as three APD officers were walking by one with a k-9 one with a shottie and one with an Ar-15(or m-16) they asked me why I hade a firearm Told them it was my Constitutionl right and that I carryed 93% of the time, they told me to have a good day and I was on with my buisness. Later found out from one of my APD buddies that a house on the next block was broken into when the wife was home and they were walking the area trying to find the dirtbag.

Well, I can certainly imagine the hassle one would get for carrying w/o a permit, because the training is still required to obtain a permit. I could be wrong about some APD officers being against the right to carry, perhaps they all agree that law abiding citizens should be allowed to arm themselves when they leave the safety, and security of their homes. I've only had to deal with one officer, and I politely told her that I was armed, and she seemed cool about it. I just simply feel more "legal" with the permit now.

That line right there scares me. You are not ANY more legal now than before and the officers won't and shouldn't give squat about whether you have a shiny "certificate of completion" or anything to that effect. This has come too far in this state to willingly give up a right and then imply that there is a reason to.
If this is how you feel at this point, I urge you to not carry that little piece of paper with you in the state of Alaska. The reasons you will carry it are completely contradictory to everything that has been done to protect our rights to carry.
A feeling that you may be harrassed is all the more reason to NOT carry that permit with you. Illegal activity of that nature must not be tolerated.
