A lot of New Yorkers get amil order gun carry permits from Florida, Virginia, or Utah and then they carry concealed or openly in a variety of states. Thankfully, due to Heller at n.23, New York's denial of both open carry rights, and its discretionary license scheme for concealed carry, are now vulnerable to an incorporation attack. See ScotusBlog discussion at http://www.scotusblog.com/wp/heller-discussion-board-incorporation-and-the-need-for-further-litigation/ written by David J. Schenck of the Jones Day office in Dallas. He filed an amicus brief on behalf of State Firearm Associations in support of the respondents. I gotta warn everyone though - if the incorporation question bubbles up too early to the S. Ct., watch out! Justice Scalia has written that he is not in favor of incorporation of the Second Amendment against the states. I asked him about this recently and Scalia said that as far as he is concerned, incorporation may be settled law, but still controversial in his mind and that it is not clear the Second Amendment would be incorporated. |

You really shouldn't find any New Yorkers on OpenCarry.org since Open Carry is illegal in the Empire State. Now, if you're looking for ex-New Yorkers, you'll have them coming out of your ears. Just sign me - Born and raised a New Yorker, got out as soon as I reached adulthood. |

I disagree. Just because there is no open carry in NYS doesnt mean there are no gunowners in NYS who support and are interested in learning about open carry. Many NYers visit PA and find this site useful to educate them about the rights of oc in PA. |

I stand corrected. NYS OCers on the New York part of the forum is sort of an oxymoron. Yes, come visit the Keystone State. OC all you want here. As long as you obey the restrictions that Harrisburg has placed on carrying firearms you'll be okay. |

The state capitol building (it's a court facility) and certain state office buildings. There are firearms storage facilities at the capitol building (all court facilities have to provide such). |

Hello from Yonkers. I'm originally from northeastern Queens, but I moved out about 7 months ago. I went through the trouble to get a NYC long gun permit back in 2004. Now that I live in Yonkers, I don't have to deal with unconstitutional registration nonsense. However, I've seen the freedom my friends in Pennsylvania and Virginia have regarding handgun ownership, and I'm strongly leaning towards moving out of NY altogether in the next year or so. Pennsylvania's at the top of my list right now, as I love the state and go deer hunting there every year. NRA really has to file suits in NY state and NYC. The handgun restrictions in NY could easily be proved arbitrary and capricious. I'm glad they're fighting unconstitutional bans in other oppressive states, but New Yorkers really need some relief too. |

Headed to Corning in two months. Looks like I'm in for a bit of a ride, even though I'm coming from the PRK. I just hope and pray to God my wife will get a free state gig in the near future. NY needs to get all of its gun owners united, talking to each other, well informed, and all joining the NRA. For the NRA to have more impact, it's gotta have more numbers and more participation. While it doesn't hurt to get organized, the reality here is NYC controls state politics in Albany. Most of upstate NY is pro-gun - less major urban areas - but we have little influence in state legislature. Look how quick Gillibrand jumped ship when she had a chance to move up the ladder.  |
