It's been a little while since we last met up. Last time it was Golden Corral buffet, but someone mentioned we should do a shooting range meet. There's a few months left of summer folks, lets get to it!

Starting a new job in 10 days. Once I get my schedule down, I will be game for a meet or shooting event.

I know it's going to be difficult to plan another OC meet where we can get everyone together. I know I normally work twice a week, so my  schedule is pretty much open until August (Going to get a 2nd job). Anyway, no rush folks.

My schedule is pretty open until the 3rd week of July or so, when the fish start to run again.

I'm headin' out this week to shoot something, haven't been out in near a month:(

To bad the range is closed for the exhaust system upgrade. cant wait for it to come back online. In the mean time I am stocking up on ammo and lead to do some reloading. I used to go allot but have missed the last several matches.

Anyone interested in getting together for a shoot out at Birchwood here in a couple weeks once the second run of reds slows down? Hopefully this rain will have stopped by then!:cuss:

I'm game, only time I have been out there was when they were building up one of the shotgun ranges and had lots of dumptrucks runing in there. had to fix a few flats.

I went to Birchwood for the first time on Friday.  That's a pretty nice place!  I took my XD9 Subcompact and my new Marlin 39A.  If we meet up I'd like someone who is a decent pistol shot to try my gun out.  I was hitting in the same general area, but not quite where I was aiming.  It was my first time really shooting a pistol.  I was a decent shot with the .22LR but need some more practice for sure!  I shot about 250 rds of 9mm and 200 of .22LR.  I can't wait to go again!

A buddy of mine showed me a place in Houston where people go to shoot for free. It's basically an open field with some hills which make really good backstops. If we meet up, I can show you guys if you're up to it.

I was talking to my buddy and a couple guys he knows. We're thinking about doing a BBQ/Shoot kinda thing in Houston. I will update you guys as to when it's going to happen. It would be awesome to get like 10-15 people together and have a picnic and blast away at various targets.

I am personally sick of shooting at paper, and paying to do so. It is a good 60 miles one way, but well worth the drive on a nice day.

we're here. It's just you seem to be keeping the topic afloat all by yourself:P

Honestly, I would LOVE to get a chance to have a fun-shoot at something other than paper, esp. in a non-range environment:D

Me too, it would be a load of fun, but it's just finding a time that would be good for everybody that is difficult. Just commit to a time frame and it will get people to make a decision one way or the other. I have been pretty busy this summer and haven't been checking the forum as much the last couple of months so this is the first time I read about your idea.

Is anyone able to do these types of things during the week and not just on weekends?

I'd be able to make it work most anytime. My work schedule at present is pretty flexible.

Once school starts Wed. will most certainly be a no-go and Mon. will be closed unless we're talkin' evening time....

Well since everyones schedules seem to conflict with one another, how about we just have another OC dinner? I think by the time we get everyone together to go shooting in Houston, it will be too cold!

How about we all go down to a gun store on September 13th, and buy a gun with our PFDs!

Going to be getting an AR with the PFD money. I was talking to a couple places around town, and the model I want is 3-4 months backordered.

Hopefully we'll all be able to go get some the 13th though. Looking foward to getting me a new gun though:D

Hopefully will also be in the Market for a .45 here before Christmas also:D

Spyderdue- What were you looking to pick up??

AR wouldn't be a bad idea. I have feelers out at several shops for an RRA Entry Tactical.

I was at Northern Security today, and they have several S&W AR's for right at $1K.

They also had the XD's in .45, though  they cost about $550. Anyone fired one of the new S&W .45's? Was looking at them today and they look like they would shoot nice.

Great Northern Guns has the S&W AR for 995, not too much cheaper than Northern Security though. They halso have the XD45 for 499!

I ended up putting one of the S&W M&P AR-15s on layaway at Great Northern Guns. It feels like a solidly build rifle, and has all the features I want. That is where my energy rebate will be going, now I will get to use energy throwing .223 lead down range.

GNG has a bunch of them in stock, so if you want one, get it while you can!

I wish you had told me sooner. I had a broken Remington 870 for sale, but sold it to a friend. You can get a Mossberg Maverick 88 for under 200 these days.

I will never go back to WWG, was totally treated like @#$% when I went in there last time and I had my check book in my hand.

Sorry to hear your bad experience with them. The only guy I have a real issue there with is Yog, the fat guy that wears the same damn shirt everyday. I wanted to look at a Ruger wheelgun, but he tried to convince me to get a Smith & Wesson. I don't like dealing with employees that try to sell me something I have no interest in. All the other guys there though seem nice.

Oh yeah, I agree with you about Wild West Guns. I went there to hopefully have some custom work done on a Springfield 1911 I had (just a beaver tail and commander style hammer). The guy behind the counter threw his nose up at my Springfield, and tried to convince me to buy a more expensive Colt. I told him I did not have the money for a new gun, and just wanted the work done on my Springfield. He reluctantly gave me a price quote for the work, and told me it would take 2-3 months, because they were behind on other custom jobs.

I will never go back to Wild West Guns.

So who's up for Dennys on Debarr @ 6PM on the 14th?

I haven't seen either on here in awhile. I haven't seen Flintlock on the other forum I frequent for some time, either.

As for the get-together. Let's get everything stapled down, because this is only a week away AND the night before the Wasilla High gun show!:D Anyone going to that??

Well I would love to meet all of you up there, but my wife and I have not relocated to Alaska YET.  The first place we want to check out is Juneau, then Achorage.  I like inland and my wife likes the ocean... like Hawaii :banghead:

But when we do relocate I will be a regular at the meetings. :celebrate

Hey man it's all good!

Anchorage is not too far from the ocean, so if your wife likes the ocean, it's maybe a 5-10 miles drive to get to it. I don't recommend swimming in it, but the view during the summer is spectacular around midnight. Most of the Alaska members of this forum live in Anchorage.

Yep I noticed that, and like you said... "It's All Good"

Seeing where Juneau is on the state map puts things in more prospective to everything.  I got a friend of mine who lives in Seward, which is not to far from Anchorage.  A good long visit will give me a much better idea of what we will do.

Alot of people from my area I understand have moved to Anchorage area, and or Fairbanks.

You might want to check out the Kenai Peninsula. Ocean (and real beaches) and yet your very close to some great hunting/recreation land as well as some of the best fishing around. Best place in the state, IMO.

So who all's showing on Fri?

I am still here fellas. I have periods where I am here quite often and others when I am away for awhile, particularly in the summertime when I am out playing. I cannot make this meet due to some previously scheduled plans but I do hope to make it to a future meet. ahunter3 is the only one from the forum I have met and I agree that we should have some more meets and grow our group as much as we can.

A side note: I am not convinced it is illegal to open carry in establishments that serve alcohol. There is no specific law against it and we are just going off of a concealed carry law. There are no specific anti-open carry laws from the information I have personally reviewed. I will eventually seek a legal opinion from the Attorney's General office.

Additionally, this web site has listed it as legal in our state (although I realize we must check the laws ourself) and I have seen others carry in alcohol serving restaurants such as Moose's Tooth, etc.

The law is CC focused.

states you can not carry while in a restaurant that serves alcohol and the carrier is drinking.

as long as you have a Pepsi you are ok.

Yeah sorry about that Jon. We sort of got turned around trying to get to Sportsmans Warehouse in Wasilla LOL! Then we went to Taco Bell, and I forgot to call you, plus I had to work that night and had to get back to Anchorage.

I picked up a lightly used S&W 642. I was either looking for that or a 12 gauge shotgun.

I picked it up for $395, which is the lowest price I have seen. Maybe I could have purchased a brand new one for that much or less, but this one looks like it has not been shot very much.

Hey, sorry it's been a while. I don't have the internet right now...

The dinner was great, I did have a little trouble finding you all. I loved my Buffalo Chicken Sandwitch BTW...The gun show was great, I ended up going both days.

Oh, and that new G34 is extrememly accurate! I was making some great double taps on those targets.

I ended up getting 6th place out of like 24 seasoned IDPA shooters! Pretty good for the first time. My buddy Chris came in last though. He's not much of a pistol shooter though...We had a great time there, they have another on the 31st if any of you would like to go. Also on the 1st of Feb. they have a USPSA match. Just give me a call. Or PM, and I'll get it sometime...

My IDPA schedule has been thrown off since the shut down for the HVAC renovation. Going to try and make it out for the Sunday shoot. Have to do some Armed tactics training for work and need to brush up on my shooting.

Sounds like quite the time! 6th place ehh? Haha I should have gone, maybe Chris could have beat me:shock:

Might have to see if I can get the 31st off so I can make the next match:celebrate

So Jon did you pick anything up from Ammo Can?  I really like their selection of AK-47 and AR-15 accessories.

Nope:X I was looking for a specific, 1 AND 2 point sling for the AR, and they didn't have it. Didn't have any P-mags either.

They did have a couple decent rifles, but I didn't have the cash:?

Thanks for the directions, btw. I've driven past their new store 5-10 times and never knew it was there.

Ah, I went with a single point sling for my AR15. Comes in handy when you want to switch to your sidearm in a hurry, and still be able to keep the rifle at the ready. The only thing is, when you're walking around, and you need your hands for other tasks, the rifle does flop around, but I don't do much of that. I got it from AK Tactical.

Yep, that's why I want to get a 1/2 point interchangeable, when I start doing crap, go to 2 point and throw it over the back.

Your AR's looking nice, I've got a red dot and forward handle on mine, I'll be ordering the final parts next week (sling and replacement pistol grip)

What kind of red dot do you have?

I am looking at getting an Eotech 512 (AA battery model), but not sure I want to spend 400 dollars on an optic.

I went with a cheapy and picked up a 2x TruGlo from Sportsmans. I figure it'll work fine for now, as it's pretty much just for plinking.

Ok back on topic. I have been wanting to get all of us together for an open carry meet. I  am able and willing to take time out of my sleep schedule to make it. I normally work nights and I seriously doubt we'd meet up after 10PM. An OC dinner and/or movie at a theater sounds like fun, or we can go to the range if its not too cold. I know for many of you guys here in Anchortown, your schedules change  quickly without much warning. If we can all at least take a few hours out of our busy schedules to make this happen, that would be awesome! Come on guys, what say you!?

Seems like nobody else  wants to make it happen. I would like to get an idea of everyones schedule so WE can work something around that. I mean if you guys aren't interested that's cool too. Seems I am the only one that brings up the idea of getting together again. :(

Sorry to hear about your job loss. Are you looking for another warehouse job, or you pretty much open to anything?

my normal schedule is Saturday afternoon thru Wed morning. I only have a std. 4 day work week, BUT I work when ever the phone rings. and Since I am now a supervisor, it seems to ring more often. anything out of those 4 days I could try to plan with.

I would like to go but my work schedule is bizarre. If it is workable, I am game, for sure. Starting March 9th, I will be Monday through Friday, normal working hours for six weeks. Prior to that, you would have to let me know the date and I can check my work schedule and see if I can.

Thanks for scheduling.

I hope everyone had a safe and uneventful winter season. Summer is almost upon us once again, time to get out and do some shooting! Who's up to the task of putting together a range day?

Probably wouldn't hurt to check out everyone schedule. I'm slam-booked until end of April. Once May hits I'm kinda-sorta free until the 21st. After that it looks like I'll be out of state for six weeks.

You still going on a trip to the 48 Jon?

Well I myself work 3 nights a week, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I usually like to go to the  range on Wednesdays or Thursdays because both Birchwood and Rabbit Creek are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. On weekends I can almost guarantee you the ranges are busy.

I've been working for Guardian Security for just over a year now. Unfortunately due to my physical limitations, I am only able to do the laid back posts. I thought about carrying pepper spray since I can't carry a gun, even though both my posts are low risk of experiencing trouble.

Murphy where is the Securitas office located again?

Thanks Murphy, I applied with Securitas last Tuesday, just waiting for them to call, if they even want to bother giving me an interview. I applied to be an unarmed guard since I doubt they'll allow me to go armed probably due to liability issues and I probably don't have enough experience in the security field.

This is why I HATE online ONLY applications, you don't know if the HR or hiring manager received it or not. I went down there in person almost a month ago, and was told that the application was online. I come home, get online, apply, and let the waiting game begin. I'll try again on Monday. :cuss:

On another note, I talked to my boss over at Guardian requesting to be a patrol officer, they said we'll have a chat next week, so we'll see how that goes. I think it'd be fun to drive one of their company cars around town  and going through different properties instead of guarding the same one.
