GATTTOP will not stick and all charges will be dropped or dismissed.

so I don't really know when I'm going to open carry again.

Although it is technically legal to enter a bank in NC if you are OC, a branch of the Navy Federal Credit Union may be one of those venues that local LEO might be confused about. If you were charged with ANYTHING for OC in a Navy Federal, I can understand being charged with "Pssessing a firearm on Federal Property", because I imagine that many LEOs dont realize that Navy Federal is a private institution just like any other bank. It is NOT a federal agency, nor is it's property Federal property. It is a mistake that an overzealous LEO might make.

Or if they had signs posted prohibiting firearms (like BB&T does), and you refused to leave when asked, they could charge you with "Trespassing".

I haven't been to a Navy Federal branch in NC--the only one's I've seen were in MD where we used to live, and since MD is NOT a gun-friendly state, I never bothered to see if they had signs, because in MD, if you are not an LEO or VERY connected, carrying a firearm in ANY manner is pretty much illegal. I haven't been to a Navy federal branch here in NC, so I can't speak to whether or not they have signs posted.

But since you were charged with GATTTOTP, and nothing else, it is highly unlikely that the charge will stick if you get a decent lawyer. This is generally used as an "add-on charge" when the "accused" is also going something else dangerous, stupid, or criminal with a firearm. But I don't know of a single time this charge has stood on it's own in a NC court.

It sounds like you got an overzealous LEO, or a LEO that doesn't believe that non-LEO's should be carrying firearms in public. Were you in uniform when you were busted? If not, be sure you show up for your court appearance in your uniform. That should help.

You need to hire an attorney ASAP, and get the civilian side of this cleared up as soon as possible. I would push to get the charge dropped, and also you should push for the court to order that the officer issue you a formal apology in writing. And then copies of all that paperwork need to be submitted to your CO, so you can get your military record straightened out, but you're going to need a completely different lawyer for that one, because the CMJ is a COMPLETELY different set of rules and procedures than civilian law...

But then again, I'm not a lawyer, and my advice is worth exactly as much as you paid for it. Good luck sorting this one out.

And although the Jacksonville Police may not appreciate it, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your Service to our country. Good Luck...

If folks want me to take point on this New Bern Dinner, I can go down to Moore's in the next day or two, and talk to them in person to see how the owners feel about this sort of thing. I think it would be a good idea to give them a "heads up" beforehand, and make sure they are cool with it, before we just show up with half a dozen guys with pistols on their hips...

But if I'm going to be point on this, I'm going to ask that we follow some rules of decorum and presentation regarding appearance and grooming. It has been my experience that a nice outfit and good grooming can go a LONG way toward defusing any potential problems when it comes to this sort of thing.

We dont know the full details of the encounter. I have lived in Jville for over 10 years as a Marine and Civilian. No issues. I dont OC in Navy Fed though. I never go in the branch either. All online.

Dreamer I agreed with rules. We are representing responsible citizens exercising their rights. How does business casual sound?

About the gun show in Greenville. Is it a big one? Not like the tiny ones run by S+D guns around here? I know they do them in Jville and Wilmington.

Actually the Greenville gun show this weekend IS being put on by S&D, and I expect it to be small. I went to their last show in Greenville in August, and it was pretty small...

But then again, I wasn't really looking to buy anything last time--it was right after I got back from an extended vacation, and the piggybank was pretty empty. But this time, I've budgeted for it, and I AM looking for a few things in particular...

As far as the New Bern Meetup, I'm still not sure I'm going to do it this weekend. I wanted to do a LOT more research on the laws in New Bern, as well as get a better feel for the attitudes on OC in the Craven Co Sheriff's dept and the New Bern City Police, and I just haven't had any time to get down there and talk to the uniforms.

I'm still seriously considering going to the Triad Area OC Meet. It's a LONG haul for me (about 3 hours I think) but if I made a day of it I could always use it as an excuse to do some long-needed shopping in the Raleigh area.

I'm hoping to get my stepdaughter and wife interested in the whole OC thing, but they are both pretty against the idea. I need a few more trips to the range to work on them, but I think there may be hope. Personally, I think a whole family showing up wearing sidearms to one of these meets would be a VERY strong statement.

I'm also working on some printed material for display at these meets, and for handing out--small posters, a brochure, and informational business cards--that are based on some of the other pieces I've seen, but tailored specifically to our laws and statues in NC. I hope to at least have a poster and some brochures ready for this weekend, but if not, I will definitely have them done in the next week or two.

I'm holding down a night-shift job, and starting Grad school, and now I'm getting into this whole gun-rights activist thing, and I'm also looking into getting NRA certified as a RSO and an Instructor, and possibly taking the NC Certification course for being a CHP instructor--my spare time is pretty short these days...

So I guess we can decide in the next few days if we REALLY want to do this New Bern thing this weekend or not. I mean, we don't really even have a head count yet, and I think it would be MUCH more successful and would have a MUCH better chance of not getting hassled by the local LEO's if it were a dozen people, than if it were jsut two or three of us.

So with all that said, I think it's now time to get a head count. So if anyone is interested in having a New Bern OC Meet this weekend, sound off now, and I'll compile a list. Once we get some numbers, we can go from there.

OK, seeing as how there hasn't been anyone really stepping up as far as interest in a New Bern Meetup this weekend, and it's Friday morning as I write this, I'm going to assume that there either isn't interest right now, or folks have other things to do this weekend.

So we'll put this on the back burner for now, and look toward having a "down east" OC Meet sometime later this month. I'll try and drum up some interest here in the Washington/Greenville area, and hopefully we can have enough folks interested by mid-month to make this worthwhile.

I'm also working on some hand-out cards and brochures to have on-hand, and should have something presentable in the next few weeks. I'll post PDFs as the printed materials come together...

Pass the word--we should have enough folks in the Greenville/ Washington/New Bern/Jacksonville area to post a dozen or more people! I'm looking forward to meeting some of you folks.

Hey, does anyone have any plans for a OC meet/Dinner anytime in November?

Let you know up front, I'm still in Hawaii, but moving to Jacksonville within about 2-3 weeks. My weapons should be arriving about a month after I get there, coming in with my HHG shipment.

Sorry I sort of let this topic drop off. Things got REALLY hectic around here ofer the last week. My stepdaughter is due any day now (I'm gonna be a Grandpa!?!), and I have been studying for my MAT's for grad school. Now that I've got the MATs over (took them this morning) and my application for the MFA program is almost finished, things should slow down to a more normal pace for me.

I've got this coming weekend free (Oct 16,17), but next weekend (Oct 23, 24) I'll be visiting family in the People's Republic of Maryland (where there is essentially NO carry of any kind, if you're a regular citizen.) The way I see it, we shouldn't even THINK of doing anything for the last weekend of October-being Halloween and all--I imagine the local LEO's will all be a little twitchier than usual...

November looks like ti might be good, but there's that whole Thanksgiving thing right there in the middle. Maybe we might think about the second weekend of Nov. as a good time to start planning for...

I've be wearing my Serpa CQC a fair amount for CC, now that it's been chilly enough to wear a coat. But still not much OC for me here in Washington.

I'll get back on this thread, and start prompting people to show interest in a New Bern Meet, Greet, and Eat. Maybe I'll bring my stepdaughter (who is 24, and a pretty good shot!), if I can convince her to OC. I'm probably going to be getting that Walther P22 later this month--I think she would wear it really well. It's just a matter of convincing her to do it, and getting her on our side. Having some women OC'ing in our group might help to keep things smooth with the public and any LEO's we may encounter...

Sounds good man. I'll let you know as soon as I have my sidearms, and start planning from there. Actually, I'll let you know as soon as I get to JAX, and make every meet that I can.

Just thought I'd "bump" this thread, to see if anyone was interested in putting something together sometime soon. I don't work on Fridays and Saturdays, so for weekend get-togethers I'm free for the next few months. It doesn't have to be an OC-dinner style thing--we could do a range day (there are a LOT of good ranges in the Greenville/New Bern/Jax area), or for you "clay busters" out there, the local Sporting Clays range is TOTALLY OC-friendly. (I went up there 2 weekends ago with my new Mossberg and wore my Para OC the whole time I was there.)

After Thanksgiving, my schedule is going to go ballistic--end of semester crunch, holidays at work, and finishing up my application for Grad School in the spring. But maybe in the next few weeks, we can do something.

Let's see a show of hands...

I'll be out in the southwestern part. The farm is off of NC 24 just outside the city limits.

I'm off work this Fri and Sat, so I'm going to go down to New Bern to run some errands on Sat, and OC and check out some potential restaurant venues for an OC meeting.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get me started?
