I missed the B.R. lunch also. I'm in.

You, XD, me, and perhaps others I'm not aware of, are close enough we should be grabbing a sandwich, breakfast or a cup of coffee from time to time. IMO.

I'm near Slidell.  Just thought metro N.O. folks should not necessarily have to wait for an announced meet-up posted on the board. Would be an area/regional type meet-up for us or maybe even more impromptu: "...so I'll be there in ten.  How about a cup of joe?"

I'm offshore now and won't be back until the night of the 2nd but like I said I will be home for 7 days before I have to go back. I think a planned meet up would give more of us time to plan there by allowing more to attend. However on my week home I am free as a bird and don't mind driving  a bit for coffee or lunch. It would give the wife and me another excuse to get out. If any of you guys want to meet for a quick bite or somthing while I'm home sounds great.

The 6th and 7th are out for me, and my work schedule for the 8th and 9th isn't out yet, but I think a lunch on one of those two days mght be doable if it's in New Orleans or thereabouts.

Why should I leave the safety afforded me in Slidell to intentionally place myself in an area where women and children are being assaulted?:D

Lunch is OK with me, but XD (not Dan) needs to pace off the 1000 feet.:)

Edited for yellow thing, then another yellow thing 'cause XD said.

Dan is that Shoney's the one on the Westbank Expressway?

Gotta admit, I'm suprised there aren't more takers.

I figured once a date, location, time was posted more of us would jump aboard. Still plenty of time though, we'll see.

Weekdays are workdays for most folks.  Only some of us have odd schedules, so that doesn't really surprise me.  My schedule at work has been really unpredictable of late, as we have someone with an ongoing medical problem that causes unexpected, last minute changes in schedule.

You know you are right, I have been on the boats for so many years working wierd schedules like 2 weeks on one week off and 4 weeks on 2 weeks off I forget normal people have decent schedules. Weekdays, weekends , it's all the same to me. My days go in numbers (5 more and a bag drag till I go home) or (6 more till I go back offshore) So I forget . Sorry Guys.

Hey, I'm new to the site (and just beginning to think about OC'ing) but depending on the date and time I would be interested in going to one of the meetings.

Welcome to OCDO.

Hammond to Marrero, to grab lunch, may be a bit too far for most. OC or not , you're invited.

Come on Brother, not so much a meeting as a bunch of buddies having lunch. I'm gonna bring the wife and I think Jerry is too.If you aren't comfortable carrying just yet come anyway. The more the merrier. I'm hopeful XD and others will be able to attend also.

11:oo July 8th Marrero Shoneys.

Ahh so yall did decide to do it on the 8th. Well unfortunately I wont be able to attend this meeting (even with working in Reserve, I still wouldnt have time to make it there and back on my lunch hour) but if one gets set up on the weekend, I will definately be there.

We've had several get-togethers on weekends that CaptainDan couldn't get to and he was hoping to try one mid-week which fits his current schedule better.  That's OK.  Everyone can't possibly attend all of the time, so moving things around a bit is a good idea.  My schedule is still up in the air, but I plan to attend unless the boss assigns me to mid-day then.  I won't know until he gets back from vacation.

Folks in places too far from where we are might want to condider trying to start up something in their area.  Although some may think we have a leader organizing this stuff, we really don't.  We're just a bunch of people with a common interest who want to spend a little time together getting to know those whom we've heretofore only encountered on the web.

Newsest guy buys for everyone? (j/k) :D

Sure, meet up with us; that's the whole point - getting together in a public place to meet each other and set a good public example so that people can see they have nothing to fear from responsibly armed fellow citizens.

One other thing, though - CaptainDan answered me that we would meet at the Shoney's in Marero and then said it was on the Westbank Expressway, but the Shoney's corporate site lists the Marero restaurant on Barataria near Lapalco.  There's a Gretna Shoney's on the Westbank Expressway near Lafayette Street.  I've run into this exact problem before where part of the group ended up at a the wrong place.

Now I don't wish to seem picky about this, so, Dan, since you seem to be point man on this, can you clarify which one you mean?  Either one is fine with me.

Come on Fella's this is an opportunity to bring our cause  to the attention of the general public in a positive way. The more open carriers the public see's the more accepted we will become.

If you live close enough, have the time off work and no prior engagements, join us. The more the merrier.

Also, as a side note, I have been looking for a way to get our message across on a daily basis and I found  Open Carry shirts and hats on the home page. I ordered a couple for the Mrs's and Myself.  Wish we had bumper stickers too, would put one on my truck.  A walking billboard, not a bad idea:celebrate

CaptainDan has assured me that I'll be safe, but that's not what you are referring to.

You should come, really, but if you bring a 'crew' to goad OCers, it's going to create another long thread. ;)

If you don't have an emergency, there's only one way for you to get a cameo.

Well, since they are the same person, there is no way the two of them can be in the same place at the same time.

MarkieMark does not have the scrotum to show his face around me.

And his other personality apparently cannot shoot because he will not accept a marksmanship challenge. instead he has dillusions.

Actually, you are already on record as not "having the scrotum to show your face around him."

Well, then, now that all of that is cleared up.  Who's still going to be there Wednesday?  I've got it marked out on my work schedule (barring someone's last-minute emergency).

Captain Dan, since you're the closest one to the place, can you get there a tad early and see to getting us a table or group of tables based on whatever headcount will finally muster up now that all the shouting has died down?

Yes Gentlemen, I will arrive early to ensure a table.

As far as I can tell we have a head count of 5 so far, however I will secure a table for 10 or so just to be safe.

lookin forward to meeting you guys

Hm, I can't see the picture; but I enjoyed talking to everyone.  Double_J, IA-Pro, Jerry, turbodog, CaptainDan and his lovely wife, and surprise guest nolacopusmc.

Am I forgetting anyone?

The restaurant staff inadvertantly made one of our common points about OCers for us.  We overheard one of them say "Leave me alone!  you better behave yourself with all of those PO-licemen here!" (meaning us)

As we were leaving, they thanked us for being there and invited us to come back again anytime.  It did not strike me as being the usual spiel, but they seemed to genuinely enjoy having us there.  So I'd call this meet-up a success.

I'd call it so too. Very much enjoyed the conversations with like-minded people.

CaptainDan, well done on proving it doesn't take months of discussion to hold a meet!

Brannon, plan for one down in NOLA!

Sorry Gentlemen, Had to leave for offshore on the 9th and was flown in on the 11th (medical emergency concerning my son) I am at the hospital in P.C. now but should be back in N.O. in a couple of days. The meet up was in my opinion a success and I thouroughly enjoyed the Quality company. My pics turned out great and when I get home I'll upload them. Visiting hours start up again at 8:00 so I'm gonna go. Will join you guys when I get back to N.O.
