Stupidest Criminal ever.

Mistake #1.  He pointed his gun at a cop.

Mistake #2.  As the cop tried to take the gun away, he didn't fire.

Mistake #3.  As the cop went to get his own gun, he didn't fire.

Mistake #4.  When the cop actually got his gun, the idiot didn't drop his or fire it first.

Never point a gun at something you aren't willing to shoot.

Never shoot something you aren't willing to kill.

Cop did the right thing.  Ended up saving the taxpayers a lot of money.

I doubt the were illegals, at least not the now deceased suspect. However, I have a high level of confidence that they were participating in something illegal. Otherwise, why the suspicious behavior?

I'm glad the LEO is safe and unharmed. Hopefully, Hoppler didn't reproduce before this incident. His kind of stupid is probably genetic.

News as of this mornin'... Hopper pulled an Airsoft gun with the orange plug removed.  It was 1AM... 'n it's dark out there.  No matter... One less idiot.  If he'd pulled that on me I would'a shot him too.

Yep, wife and I were driving by what was left of the crime scene yesterday morning. Checked out the guy's mug shot on the Red Star's web site- it seems Mr Hopper had a record. I would have done the same thing Officer Acevedo did- that's one thuggish looking perp.

Looks aren't everything. I used to have long hair, a full beard, and when I was in a fully non-work, and relaxed mode, I was usually in beat up blue jeans and a t-shirt. I was still successful at work, but the following story wouldn't be possible if I'd looked "straight."

About 10 years ago I was in a beer/wine store in Flower Mound, TX. I walked in while a couple of LEOs were at the counter buying sodas and cigarettes. The whole time I was in the store the LEOs watched me. They had already paid, and yet they stayed in the store and kept a large amount of curiosity aimed my way.

When I went to the counter and paid, I looked at the LEOs and just shook my head. The attendant, an african-american man, took my money and said to me just under his breath, "I know how you feel man."

Looks aren't everything.

Today I am still successful in my work. I now shave my head, or sometimes wear my hair extremely short. Like the perp in the article leading this thread, I have a goatee. I'm 6'4" and I weigh 250, so a lot of people think I'm a pretty imposing figure. My wife and daughter know I'm a teddy bear. I dress a little cleaner, and I'm probably not classed anywhere near the mountain man look I had ten years ago.

But I still get suspicious looks. Even when I'm not carrying.

Hoppler's look gets folks thinking that he's what criminals should look like. But looks aren't everything.

I hear you. I am 6' 1", around 235 with a 52" chest and a full beard. My hair is short but when I carry they still give me strange looks.

And as most AZ types know, even showing a gun to a cop in AZ in a threatening manner is bad advice.

I cannot blame the LEO types at all.

Fortunately, the true nature of a coward shone through.  He thinks the gun makes his dick bigger, he's never pulled the trigger.  It's a macho show-off thing.  When it came time to put up or shut up, his mind was not anywhere near the circumstance.

And that's just fine with me!  +1 for the good guys.

Wow, like to f*ck with the Police, don't ya'? I met your kind in the state prison system, when they pissed off the Police, got arrested and jailed and came whining to me 'cause they were scared and couldn't do jail time.

For the past 30 years I OC/CC in Pennsylvania and around Arizona and I've NEVER been followed around or questioned by Police as why I carry a hand gun.

Maybe it's because I don't act like a wise a$$ PUNK!:what:

When a cop acts like a wise-ass punk, I give it back.

People who use their badge to intimidate those who aren't doing anything wrong, deserve to be messed with.  I was followed around a convenience store by a State Trooper once.  I gave back.  Big deal.  Get over yourself.

There wasn't anything 'suspicious' about me.  She was just being a see you en tea.  I said 'hi' and 'can I help you?' when I noted she was standing uncomfortably close, with the smarmy "I'm better than you" look.  She refused to even speak, just stand there staring me down.  Following not even 2 steps behind me anywhere I went.  I started walking around in circles, looking at stuff I didn't even want to buy, just for laughs.  Note, my hands were full (one item in each hand, intentionally) to show I couldn't be stealing anything...

How dare I buy gas for my bike and grab a chocolate milk and a slim-jim!  I really needed that!  I deserve to be in jail!

Whatever.  Shut your mouth, boy.

Police who are belligerent rattle me, and I get extremely angry.  However, as I have mentioned in other posts, I have not run into this circumstance in Arizona.  My encounters with police have been professional and even friendly.

I think my thing is, I want to like cops.  I want to think of them as the good guys.  Because I know at their best, that is exactly what they are.  Anti-authoritarian as I am, I've never been one of these people who takes pleasure or broadcasts having problems with police.

My general policy is to be friendly, even warm to police, even if I'm annoyed at being stopped (and I get stopped all the time, wandering around my neighborhood at 3 AM with insomnia - after the third time in a month, it gets really annoying).    But even those guys, who really shouldn't have been stopping me for walking on a sidewalk, are never belligerent.  They're just wondering why some guy is wandering around at 3 AM.  I can understand that.

The thing about messing with cops playfully, or being rude to them, is it contributes to the tendency of seasoned cops to be gruff and suspicious of everyone.  I don't want to contribute to that because there's nothing worse than a guy with a gun and a badge and the power of the State behind him, snarling at you.

But again - in California I've had problems (and one very nice encounter in SF, one time), and tons of problems in New Jersey - police are just jerks in New Jersey and they enjoy being that way.

Here in Arizona, professional and courteous, based on my experiences so far, and as such, they will get the same back from me.

I have been fortunate as well and have never had a bad experience with an LEO.  That being said, if I was being followed around I would ignore it.  I would not cause a scene, and just move on.

I've never had a bad experience in AZ.  I would not 'bait' a cop or play silly games. I'm armed... they're often nervous.  I will not make them moreso.  This is part of my responsibility in the free exercise of a Right.  DO NOT CAUSE A PROBLEM OR AROUSE SUSPICION.

And if the officer is blatantly provoking and being an ass?  I'm sure 'my way' isn't the choice of most people.  But what would you do in that circumstance?

At least I'm not the only one who gives the persistently unprofessional and obnoxious a little return...

I have less than zero respect for the person who wants to ignore the asinine behavior of someone in a badge, and accuse me of being the 'punk.'

That's traitor with a broken jaw territory.  Really hard to find something that can set me off, but that will do it.

There is a book available.  Lemme see.  [How to Arrest-Proof Yourself] or some such title.

Written by an ex-cop turned defense attorney.

In it he relates that some cops are deliberately being provocative to incite the detainee to do something arrestable.  Apparently (my words, not his), this is so common as to have a word for it: inciters.

Inciters are the various actions that police do to try to get the detainee to do something arrestable--push the cop, yell and cuss the cop, etc.

Inciters include: literally in-your-face yelling, with or without spittle on your face, a poke in the groin,...(can't recall any others, sorry).

So, the lesson is "don't fall for the inciters".  They want you to do something arrestable, or run so they can chase you.

Well, I wasn't carrying, wasn't even spoken to by the officer in question, just liked being a turd.  I wonder how many career cops are inciters?

I don't fall for it, much the way I don't fall for the "I just want to talk, tell me what's going on here..." line.

I will react, or tell them stuff, but nothing that matters or even relates.  I escalate my forms of non-cooperation in consensual encounters until they go away.  Top of the list is what I originally posted.  A cop has to really REALLY prove they are a degenerate to get me there.

[And don't tell me that I'M the one with the problem when they do it, not if you like your face where it is.  I know that's crossing the line.  That's just how it is.  Deal with it.  Note, the next sentence...]

Isn't being spit on or unwanted touching a form of assault?

Anyway, this is way off topic...

Hrm, guess who I'm not riding with...

When an officer baits you for half an hour, acknowledging his/her immature behavior with a little sarcastic insult is completely acceptable.  Treat a child like a child.

Stuff it, pal.

Is it my imagination or is everyone a bit cranky today :celebrate:celebrate

I am curious what AZKOPPER's input would be on this, I stand with walking away.  If I was easily able to get upset about things that are silly, I don't think I would carry.  A LEO can follow me all day, I don't care, I am not doing anything wrong.  If the intention of the LEO is to incite me, well..good luck on that, it takes quite a bit to do that.

Stop. Talk to them. Ask whey they are following you. Be civil. You do not know why they are following you. Did a store clerk point you out because he felt nervous. Do you match someone they are looking for. Did the cop just get that 'wiggy feeling' about you and is checking you out further.

If the cop is being a true ass after that, use your cell phone and call his department, right in front of him. Tell the Watch Commander or whomever is in charge that you are being harassed and verbally abused by Ofc. Smith, and wish for a supervisor to come down immidately. True asses need to be sent up the chain for re-education.

But no, don't play cutesie games. Don't get in to a battle of wills. Be polite. Be straight forward. Be the squeeky wheel to the brass and/or city hall. If Ofc. Smith is being a True Ass  because of his own personality defects, your civil behavior and non-escallation of the incident will only highlight his improper behavior, and give him nothing to fall back on.

My 0.02 worth, only.

Fair advice I suppose.

I opted for calling her Princess on my way back out to the bike.  She followed me about half-way and then realized, crap, she can't chase a sportbike if she's not in her car...

But it was too late: Ninja 1, Crown Vic 0.

I'm pretty sure inciters know I can operate a phone and make a complaint.  If they didn't have their bases covered, they wouldn't do it.  Especially the FHP.  Lots of people want that job, and they know it.  They wouldn't take the chance if they weren't certain

The last thing I want is to call up her buddies and make a complaint, then I'll have 20 of them harassing me.  I just want to make the pest go away.  I didn't get all riled up or macho like she was hoping for.  It turned out to be a huge waste of time that involved the opposite of the ego trip she was looking for.  hoping people would watch her kick my ass and drag me away, turned into making an ass of herself, me adding insult to injury, and still having no way to cross the line without screwing herself.  Standing there looking like a jackass (and rightfully so) and nothing she can do.

I haven't been bothered since.  It's not about cop or not.  It's about a see you en tea being put in her place.  The cop thing is peripheral.

One thing the academy beats into your head "It's the uniform, not you."  In this case, it's the opposite.

anyways...........

Glad this fool got shot!  I presume this officer isn't the sort I've dealt with.

I did.  That's why I posted the video links--in case any new guys were reading.

If I am being followed by a cop, the last thing I am going to do is talk to him.

He is right.  I don't know why I am being followed.  But, unless I'm bleeding unknowingly or something, I can safely assume I am under investigatory observation.

Besides, since I automatically invoke all rights during a police encounter, it would be a really short conversation anyway.  :)

Interesting you would play that card when it is so obviously not taking place...

I took it that he meant to discourage it from occurring, as compared to stopping an existing occurrence.

I may be biased in some ways, but those who cannot admit to their own... and hide behind 'rules' or some mistaken version of respect for a criminal with a badge...  then imply that others are 'going to cross a line' just because they don't hold LEOs as beyond reproach no matter what, etc... blah blah blah.  It all adds up to dirty business.

In the vernacular of my generation: "Whatever, man."

I don't bash anyone, I let them bash themselves first.  I just stand there and point at it.

...well, except for people who try to say I have less honor than someone who abuses a trusted position, badge, and uniform.

Hey ixtow, Have you stopped to think that maybe this female LEO might have had the hots for you? Maybe she wanted you to notice HER and ask her out. Maybe you were wearing a cologne that she just couldn't get enough of and it was driving her crazy in heat. Maybe you project a "bad boy" image and it turned her on.

Hell man, you might have blown a good thing here.

Oh, as for the fool that pulled the airgun on the cop....... just plain dumb. Natural selection at it's finest. the Smart survive, while the idiots parish. Good for the gene pool.

You're not the first to suggest that.  No, she definitely wasn't.

I don't have a 'bad boy' image.  I have a "I'm broke, so there's no reason any succubus, I mean, woman, would have a reason to be interested in me" kind of image.

But, no, she was NOT in any way on that line.  I get hit on by women enough to know what it is.  But I'm dead broke, and that will never change.  Been down that road plenty of times.  No woman ever loves a man more than money, fancy cars, big houses, or his credit cards.

That part of my life is over.  It wouldn't matter even if she did.  I could never see past the badge and all the wrong I've seen it do, nor the gender and all it's empty promises.  I've considered the matter before.  Not much of a foundation to build on there, eh?

I don't even look at 'em anymore.

Hey, maybe she's into down and dirty scrappers. It's a stray dog thing, ya know. Maybe she was thinking of taking you home with her and taking care of YOU.
