According to http://www.wheretoshoot.org (plug in zip code 22030 in the firing range finder thing), GMU has a firing range. It appears to be located on the Western side of University Dr. Anyone know anything about that? I'm thinking it ought to be publicly accessible the same way the tennis courts and library are.

The only shooting range I know of near GMU is this one:

NRA Range
11250 Waples Mill Road
Fairfax, VA 22030
Phone# 800-672-3888

This is the range in the basement of the NRA National Headquarters. It is right off the junction of 50 and 66 in western Farfax city. AWESOME range--clean,quiet, and state-of-the-art. If you're ever inthe area, I HIGHLY recommend it. I used to go there on Friday evenings with my buddies from work when I worked there in Fairfax.

The only more high-tech and spiffy ranges in NoVa (in my opinon) are Silver Eagle in Ashburn (SUPER posh, and astoundingly comprehensive, but a little pricey) and the FBI Academy training range at Quantico (which isn't open to the public, but I've been on it as a contractor, testing body armor for DOJ)

A range on GMU's campus? Yeah right... Maybe someday (we can only hope), but not right now, bro...

No, what I'm talking about is on the campus of GMU. Take a look at that wheretoshoot website, and look at the map function - it clearly identifies an area on campus.

I have no personal knowledge of GMU but there have been ranges on practically every college I attended.  I shot on the rifle team at NCSU while I was there.  The range probably unknown to most students was under the Fine Arts theater (old indoor swimming pool converted).  At ASU (Appalachian State) the range was out doors behind the football stadium.  I didn't attend WFU (Wake Forest) but did belong to a club that had privileges there and shot at that range.  I would not find it surprising that a range exists or that practically no one knows about it.

The website link you give is a dead link. I think you mean this one:

There's a number listed; I'd suggest trying that (after you used *67) - they list archery on the list as well - may have something to do with that option.

* didn't think any campus had ranges after "Taps" came out in the early 80's...

We had one at W&M in the early 90's. Not sure if it's still operational or not.

There is a shooting range in the basement of our coliseum where the basket ball games are held.  It is only open to the rifle team though.

This is at NCSU, and funny enough, it isn't advertised at all.

I'm thinking it is an archery range.

GMU offers a Trap/Skeet shooting class, and they use the facilities of the Rt.28 Izaak Walton.

The GMU PD website has a pic of an indoor shooting range with some LEOs training but who knows what range that is.

That'd be cool if there was a secret range somewhere on campus...hmmm...perhaps thats what those trapdoors on the sidewalk near the JC are for...they're even marked "fire door" so there must be something down there

I don't know about your school, but wheretoshoot gives me an address for a range on-campus that was torn down in 2000 here at U of Michigan.

Our rifle team now has to drive 40 miles to go to practice.
