AS THE RESULTS OF A FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST, I RECEIVED SEVERAL DOCUMENTS.
THIS IS THE TEXT CONTAINED IN A PROPOSAL TO MANDATE CONCEALMENT.
THEY CLAIM THAT MANDATING CONCEALMENT IT WILL INCREASE REVENUE TO THE GENERAL FUND.
IT ALSO CLEARLY ADDRESSES THE PROBLEMS THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF REGARDING BREACH OF PEACE BEING USED AGAINST THOSE THAT OPEN CARRY.
IF YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES, THEY EXPECT CASE LAW TO ALLOW OPEN CARRY!!
The information is posted at http://www.ctgunrights.com and can be accessed by clicking the Breaking News button.

This is NOT unexpected, and everyone needs to organize NOW to prevent this attempt to take away our right to OPEN CARRY in CT.

Ed,
Just so we all understand, as I read this it is just in the proposal stage. Pleas correct me if I am wrong.
If I am correct, then my next question is how do we stop this? at this stage or do we need to wait for it to grow legs to start our campaign against it?
Sorry for the dumb questions, I just want to make sure that the organization proceeds in the fastest and best way to stop this.
Thanks

Here is the link to the PDF version of the PROPOSED legislation.
http://www.ctgunrights.com/00.Docs/2010.Cover.for.Concealed.Legislation.pdf
This is what DPS would like to propose, and this is exactly why I advocated finding a way to contact and mobilize Permit holders in CT.
The Connecticut Sportsmen just had a meeting in East Hartford, and I can't help but wonder why this isn't known or why this has not been published by the NRA.
I would think that the NRA would want to know so they could send out one of their ALERTS and ask their members to contact and support the Citizen's Defense League in any attempt to plan an effective defense against this PROPOSED legislation.
This is only ONE of the many proposals I got from DPS in resonse to my Freedom of Infromation Request that was posted on this site.
I will eventually be posting all the PROPOSALS on my new website at http://www.ctgunrights.com.

I attended the meeting in East Hartfard and I have to say the feeling I got was that most sportsmen don't care about the carry issue. It's certainly not a very high priority for them. Unfortunately, the NRA is largely a sportsmen organization and I think carry (open or concealed) is not their biggest issue either.

I have posted links to the 2010 DPS PROPOSED LEGISLATION AT http://WWW.CTGUNRIGHTS.COM JUST CLICK ON THE NEWS FLASH BUTTON.
I made PDF copies of everyting I got and posted for all to read.
There are NO exceptions in the proposed concealment legislation, so law enforcement will still have discretion as to whether or not to arrest.
Hope this generates contact and membership in the Connecticut Citizen's Defense League http://www.ccdl.us because this type of attack on how we carry our firearms will not end until they get what they want.

It looks to me that the way it is worded, that PRINTING could get you fined or put in prison!!!!
(c) Concealed pistol or revolver means a firearm, that is a pistol or revolver that is covered or enclosed in any manner that an observer cannot determine that it is a handgun without removing it from that which covers or encloses it or without opening, lifting, or removing that which covers or encloses it.

Fined AND put in prison.
First conviction is both a fine and less than a year of prison time.

Get as many people as possible and start to organize, it's gonna be very important to have support when and if these make it to the legislative session next year.

And which slimeball at DPS do we have to thank for this nugget of nastiness? They failed the first time around, we better make sure this one goes down in horrific flames!

Article 1, Section 15 of the Constitution of the State of Connecticut reads:
Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state.
Carrying concealed, hidden from view, an ungentlemanly act, is deemed a privilege and requires a license from the State.
Open carry, i.e., bearing arms, is a right, not a privilege.

I'd love to hear an explanation for how the CT government reconciles its ridiculous laws with that very clear wording of the state constitution.
