As a few of you know there are a few of us who OC here in our small college town of Pullman. Dave the Welder has been doing this around here before me, and as I understand it there might be one other guy around town doing it. I've OC'd around town a little bit now and then but after this weekend's lunch in Spokane I'll be going more and more. Now onto the report so to speak. Last week I talked my roommate into OCing for dinner and a little around town. He was hesitant to go and worried about the reactions. We went to dinner at a great little place called Golden Teryaki. The people there are very nice and the service is hard to beat. No one said anything to us the entire time we were there. There was even an off duty cop who walked in when we were paying and he didnt even seem to bat an eye. Next stop was Dismores grocery store. We got a few looks but no one said anything in the store untill I was standing in the check out line. When the guy infront of me finished paying he turned to look at me and I think he was startled when he say my gun. I know this because he just said "Holy Sh!t!" and headed for the door real quick. I wanted to say something to him, but he was gone before I thought about it. Blockbuster video was next and again, not a problem. Every time I OC it just shows me how oblivious people are to what is around them. I swear most people just dont notice my gun on my hip. Hopefully my roommate will join the board soon and start posting. He had a great time at the Spokane lunch yesterday. Kevin |

The guy in the grocery line is a perfect example of what I consider "sheeple", even though I think it's derogatory to call anyone that is in condition white that name. He didn't even think that you might have been an off-duty cop, just "gun, bad, RUN!" It's this kind of thinking that is most detrimental to our RKBA and the one we have to try and change the most. Sure, your fence-sitters need to be "converted", but the ones that are so ignorant of the facts as to fear the mear thought, much less the sight of, a firearm are in desperate need of education. |

I've opencarried in Pullman many a times. Denny's, Pizza Hut, the movie theater, Dismores, and a few other places I can't think of on top of my head. I think I've pretty much OC'd everywhere in Moscow, too! I'll be out there the weekend of March 14th-18th if anyone wants to meet up. |

I remember when they decided to stop selling porno mags because the giant church of the holy stadium got enough folks on city council elected and able to pressure local businesses. Before that, wow, they had quite a selection to appeal to the college-aged over-sexed males. LOL. FYI, if Tidymans is still open over in Moscow, it is worth the drive. And I also remember there was a grocery store in the strip mall across from the funeral parlor and the giant church/stadium. They closed up in the early 90's, but hell they even sold ammo! |

I'd like to take a day trip over in Eastern WA sometime, it's been a while since I've been over the mountains. Are the passes clear now, or do you still have to have chains and all that nonsense to get over there? Where is a good place to go and just spend the day seeing the sights, maybe get a little shooting in if there is open area to shoot at? Hell, if I ever do make it over that way, I wouldn't mind meeting up with you guys; probably won't be this month though...... |

Compmanio365: The passes should be clear and the weather over here is getting better and better by the week. Give it a week or two and it should be great to drive over the mountains and see the "other" Washington. Tri-Cities is a great place to go to if you want to tour winerys, but that's about it. Spokane has LOTS to see and is a fun place to visit (heck, I was just there visiting and OCing on Saturday). The drive from Tri-Cities to Dayton or Walla Walls are both very pretty. Wherever you go, I can take you out shooting, and I'm sure several other OCers will come along. I can also give you a place to stay if you need. Just let me know the when and wheres. G27: I've got a friend up here that's a former fighter pilot and owns a bit of land. I have an open invitation to come out and shoot on his land (I helped him put up a series of solar pannels). Plus, you can ask him about having to eject from his fighter jet. It's a great story. |

Hello, everyone. I'm a new guy (obviously) and a student at WSU. I normally carry concealed, but I had no idea Pullmanites would be so receptive to open carry, since it's a college town and college students tend to be liberal. I have a Bersa Model 85 in .380, but I will be upgrading to something in .40 caliber when I get some money. Anyway, are there any good gun stores in the area? I haven't found any, and maybe I'll see ya around with your OC weapon. |

There aren't any good gun stores in the area that I know of, but if you're willing to drive an hour to Spokane, there's more great gun stores than you can see in an entire day of OCing (trust me, I tried a few weekends ago). You should meet up with us this weekend when we go shooting. Dave, I'm recovering from the flu and would like to see about putting shooting off until Sunday if at all possible. I'm still in the Tri-Cities. I've been on my CNC mill the last few days cranking out a prototype stock for a friend's AK and am a little behind because of the flu. |

Pardon me for butting-in and kinda hijacking the thread... but are you able to do custom designs?! I have wanted a tabuk stock for my Romanian AES-10 stamped receiver, but Ironwood Designs says that it can't be done (or they don't want to) and only sell it for the Yugos with a milled receiver mounting block. From looking at the design, I don't see why it would be a problem to skeletonize a normal stock if you used laminate as a base. Admittedly, it wouldn't be any good for bashing-in heads, but that's not the point, as I'm trying to turn this into a Designated Marksman-type rifle. Heck, if I had the cash flow, I'd design it to integrate into the Romanian wire side-folding stock hinge. A wood skeletonized side-folder... now that's just drool-worthy! |

Not a problem, just PM me and we'll talk it over. Before I came to WSU for the final two years of my engineering degree, I got two year AAS degrees in both welding and machining from Columbia Basin College. I own a CNC vertical milling machine, a plasma cutter, and a Miller Dynasty inverter welder. I looked at the tabuk design and I think that it will be very easy to convert a regular stock into one of them. Also, forget the romanian wire side-folding stock hinge, I'll just make you one. One of the things that I'm prototyping right now on my friend's AK stock is my own design of side-folder. For that matter, we could just build the rifle from the ground up. A US made designated marksman AK would look pretty nice in your collection. Back to topic, Dr. Fresh and JB, that's plan on going shooting on Sunday. I'll PM both of you my number in the morning. |

To answer a previous question about the Moscow range, their rules say that there can be no hot weapons on the range unless you are ready to shoot. So by their rules a loaded concealed pistol would be a no no. But its one of those things that if its concealed then who would know right? Not that I am advocating breaking the rules. Also know that it is a members and guest only range and they are pretty strict about that. |

Hey guys, sorry for the slow response. I haven't been able to get a hold of my friend with the land (I think I might have heard him talking about being in California this week) so unless somebody else has a place to go or a membership to the Moscow range, I'm thinking that we may just have to settle for an OC lunch or dinner with everybody. So needless to say we had our open carry dinner over here in Pullman. It was actually in Moscow, Idaho because there is no good restaurants over in Pullman but I got to meet quite a bit of new people and it was extremely fun. We ate dinner at Winger's with no problems and just as we paid a manager came and told us that Luke needed to put his firearm in his car. He replied that Idaho was an Open Carry state. The manager at that time didn't want to talk about it any further and b told us it was private property and that he needed to go put it in the car. We then proceeded to leave. Dave and Kevin went back in to ask the manager what was up with it. The wife didn't want me getting arrested and she wasn't about to let me go back in. I called Dave to see if he needed to be bailed out and he said the manager was nicer about the subject the second time around and just said that some people had complained about it and that he wanted to make everyone happy. So I guess Winger's won't be our next choice as they clearly don't support us open carrying there. He said we were welcome to come back, as long as the guns were left in the car. I don't believe this is corporate policy but I won't be going back nonetheless. A manager is supposed to represent a company, and this left a bad taste in my mouth. But I've come to expect that. The interesting side of the story is that the people that were scared of our firearms is one of the girl's friends. He said that they were scared by a bunch of guys sitting next to them with guns. She told him to grow up. I was actually impressed by the wife's change of attitude on the whole subject and she completely supports us now. I was thrilled to see her stick up for the "bunch of crazy guys carrying guns." Thanks to everyone that came out. It was awesome meeting you Dave and Kevin. You need to tell your friend Luke to come and join the board. It would be nice to see a new poster. Also, Kevin, what screen name do you go on under this board? Dave, it was great meeting you tonight. I had a lot of fun. Luke should be joining the board tonight and I told him it was his responsibility to write the report for this meeting but it looks like you beat him to it. Dave (the other one) should join in here shortly with some more info as he and I both had our recorders going when we were talking to the manager. One thing to add is I'm sure the manager thought that Luke was the only one carrying and he didnt notice Dave and myself were armed as well untill we were done talking to him. He seemed like a nice guy and was trying to go along with the owners wishes. I think I'll try some other restaruants in Moscow to see if I get similar responses. Kevin |

Here's Kevin's and my story of talking to the manager: Kevin and I decided that this would be a great opportunity to talk with a manager about open carry so we headed back into the restaurant and asked the lady at the front if we could speak with the manager. When he approached us, we identified ourselves as part of table that Luke was at when the manager had asked Luke to leave. I asked him if it was store policy to ask people with visible firearms to leave. He replied that pretty much, anywhere in Moscow, if the restaurant or bar didn't have a gun check, then the firearm needed to be left in the vehicle. I replied that I knew that a firearm couldn't be carried in a bar but was unaware of any law requiring me to disarm before entering a restaurant. He said, "just think about it, we're a family restaurant and people get uneasy about stuff like that." I said that we were all family and friends and that we had all just arrived back in town and wanted to get together for dinner. The manager replied, "he's (referring to Luke) right, this is an open carry state. You could walk down the middle of down town and nobody could do a damn thing, and it's cool. I think it's great, but just leave it in the truck." I thanked him and told him that we wanted to make sure that we hadn't caused any problems, and he replied that we hadn't, at which point we left. The quotes above were directly off of my voice recorder. Looking back, there was a lot that I could have said, but I was trying to say as little as possible (so that I didn't sound like I was lecturing him) while saying as much as possible. I have the recording if anybody is interested. |

Dave, just so that you are aware you can carry in a bar in Idaho if you so wish. The only places you can not carry in Idaho is in a courthouse, juvenile detention facility, adult correctional facility, prison, jail, public school or private school. Everywhere else is fair game, unless you get kicked out! Last edited on Mon Mar 17th, 2008 06:15 am by G27 |

So it looks like Dave beat me to the post about our dinner tonight. So in the spirit of not making my first post on this forum be completly redundant and pointless.. I will just add that this is the second time in two days that I have been confronted while carrying, However i believe this to primarily due to the sweatshirt I was wearing, its completly white and makes my serpa and 1911 stand out like a sore thumb. I have been open carrying almost everywhere for the last two weeks, both here in pullman and back in olympia and the only time anyone has said anything other than positive inquisitions, has been when i wear that white sweat shirt. I always have dressed up a bit when I OC just to try and present an image other then whats expected. just goes to show what a difference it makes. |

We had an OC get-together today in Pullman and it went off great. We parked downtown and walked a few blocks to Quiznos. I waited outside while everyone else went inside because I was finishing up a phone call. When I entered I noticed that somebody had already started a conversation with Kevin about us carrying. I walked up and took over talking to him so that Kevin could order. I explained that we were normal citizens that normally carried concealed but due to recent events, have been carrying openly more and more to bring a general awareness to the public that it's never the firearm that's the problem, it's the person that had access to it. He agreed with me and said that that made perfect sense and loved getting one of the pamphlets. We talked for about 5 minutes with several other customers listening in. Very good talk and everybody involved was very pleased with what we were doing. I then ordered my sandwich and at the register had one of the workers comment that everybody seemed to be carrying pistols. I repeated the same speech about who we were and why we were doing it and handed him a pamphlet as well. He looked through it, asked me several questions about gun laws concerning concealed carry (he owned a pistol) and thanked me for being so helpful. He stated that he supported what we were doing and loved that the pamphlet had everything that he needed in one place. While this was going on there were several employees listening in. Nobody seemed nervous and everybody seemed very interested in what I had to say and were nodding there heads in agreement. Afterwards, we snapped a picture of the four of us who were carrying (there were 5 of us total). I think it's important that we start posting more pictures of us out and about when OCing both to encourage new members and to put a face on us so that the general public can see that we're just average people who care about our rights and freedoms. EDIT: We really looked happier than this walking around town, it's just that the sun was in our face when the picture was taken Attached Image (viewed 214 times): Last edited on Mon Apr 14th, 2008 12:40 am by Dave The Welder |

I find it kind of ironic for somebody who's feeling uneasy about you open carrying to actually say something about it. I mean if they really were afraid of you, would they want to confront you and let you know that they're afraid of you.....or even tell the manager and use the manager as a proxy? If they are afraid of you, why tell you? Furthermore, what if asking you to leave made you upset? Isn't that the last thing they would want? |

I'm thinking that we should plan on a get together this Saturday and see if we can't get everybody to show up. That would be at least 6 and could be as many as 9 (counting off the top of my head). It would sure be a show of force in Pullman. Look at how many people we talked too last time with only 5 present. I know we've already been to Quiznos twice, but they're very friendly to us and it's always full of people so my vote is for there. If you want a change of food, Taco Del Mar is across the street and they also always have people in it. Either would be a good location. Heck, if everybody showed up, we could even split up and send a group of OCers to both coffee shops downtown before or after lunch to increase the number of people who would see us. |

I am going to need alot more copies of the WGR, I had to pay a parking ticket today down here in Pullman and so I went into the Pullman Police station OCing and paid the ticket (over 2 hours in a marked parking space $10). The person behind the counter gave my beretta a passing glance and that was all. On my way out I noticed that there was a rotating pamphlet center which appeared to have information about all sorts of issues from all sorts of sources. I went back in to inquire as to how one goes about putting in pamphlets. When I told her that I wanted to put in some information in about OC she got a big grin on her face and said it was a great idea. She went on to mention that it merely needs to be approved by the commander, sometimes by the cheif depending on the issue. So I gave her one of the pamphlets with my contact information on it if there were any questions. When she began to look it over she mentioned that when people come in for their CPL they direct them to OCDO |

Would around 2 work as a good time on Saturday for everybody to show up in force? I have a friend who is going to be joining in on his first time OCing and is just looking for a time and place. Quiznos sounds good to me, but if we get enough people to show then I think we should absolutly try to inform people at multiple locations. I am down for coffee earlier if anybody else is in, I know that Dave mentioned something along those lines. |

So our last little OC get together went pretty well yesterday. Dave, Daves GF, Kevin, a buddy of mine Chris and the roommate all went downtown to Quiznos because they have been very friendly to us and likewise are always pretty full when we walk in. I arrive first with Rob, the roommate, and head on in and wait in line to order, people are watching but there were no obvious signs of concern. As I walk up the front the person taking orders briefly looks up and returns to his work for only a split second, lifts his head again, obviously looking at my beretta, and letting out an uncontrollable "awesome" complimented with a smile (it is my understanding that this is the same individual who was talking with Dave a few weeks back). It finally hits me that not waiting for everyone else to show up would be rude so I decide to go and wait outside (more people can see you if you're outside). My buddy Chris shows up a few minutes later with his revolver on his side followed shortly by Dave, the GF and Kevin. After a short conversation with a guy who knew Chris and Kevin we went inside to order. The large group of sorority girls who walked in as we were waiting outside created more than enough time make our presence known, but alas these ladies wouldn't strike up a conversation us The conversation went on this way for several minutes and essentially concluded when the guy behind the counter asked what I wanted to order. There were sporadic questions and bits of information thrown about but nothing as direct as shortly prior. The end of the conversation was made obvious when the man asked the following question "So I take it you are not going to vote for Hillary then?" to which I replied "It doesn't appear to be in the cards." Then he shook my hand and thanked us for standing up for our rights and said that it was good to see that people were doing so especially in times like these. After sitting down and starting to eat several others came in and Dave was the only one OCing on the side of the table with his back to the counter, as one man passed he noticed the 1911 and I am surprised that he didn't hit his forehead on the grip. His face visibly trained on the firearm for several seconds as he slowly passed, Dave didn't notice due to the fact that his face was buried in the sandwich. This was about the last event before we took pictures (which Dave will be posting eventually) and took off. Overall a good OC day and my first true initiation into OC. Not such a fun time over in Moscow, ID today, I went over to pick up some 9mm ammo at Walmart only to realize that they upped their prices $4 in the last 2 weeks. Just to compare prices I ran over to Tri-State because they generally have a pretty good selection on ammo. As I walked up to the guy behind the counter in the firearm section of the store to ask about prices he couldn't even bother to look at my face while I was asking, he was fixated on the fact that I was OCing. After I decided that $13-14 for a box of 50 was not right for the wallet I walked over to my friend who was looking at .22LR ammo. I wasn't standing there for more than 10 seconds before the same guy came up to me and asked to have my firearm Shortly there after I realized that I should have asked what corporate policy would have been had I been an LEO. If only I was quicker on my feet |

I've heard of this policy before from someone who used to work there. They need to be placed on the Do Not Patronize List. I'll see about heading over there this week and letting them know that they've lost my business. I'd suggest that all OCers in the Pullman/Moscow area do the same. I love their selection but we need to make a stand on our rights. |

If you visit Tri-State, make sure you speak with a general manager or owner... or at least make sure you see a written copy of their policy. If I'm going to add another gun store to that list, I want it to be well-within the rules I set down for the DNP list. Edit: I just realized this was in Idaho... our list is for WA businesses. But, due to the fact that it's right across the border there, if you guys get hard evidence that they have that policy, I'll certainly take adding them to the list into consideration. thats strange... ive never had a problem at tri-state before. and ive oc- there multiple times while buying ammo. then again, i wasn't there very long. thats to bad. On the positive side, there is a gun store right next door to tri-state, next door to the fast food joint, though i cant recall its name off the top of my head, it is very OC friendly. the owner is a knowledgeable and always helpful. |

You are talking about Sure Shot next to Wendy's. This is usually where I take my business, however seeing as it was Sunday and they were closed I didn't have that option. Also Wal-mart had until recently the best prices on 9mm, the sad thing is that i think they still do in the area... at $18.95/100. Edited to highlight name. Ammo prices just keep going up and up. You guys really should consider starting to reload. The setup costs really arent that expensive once you actually start loading. My GF and I shot at the range for a very long time today, for very little cost, since I loaded almost everything. But if you guys just don't want to do it, I'll keep your brass well taken care of if you want to save it for me. |

I wouldn't load steel cases. They can't hold up to the resizing very well. You could beuo and running for $200-300, depending on where you pick up your stuff. I bought almost everything used except my dies, go to ar15.com and start watching the reloading section of the equipment exchange. |

Another business that doesn't need any of our money. I went into Tri-State today with Dave the Welder and asked to see the manager. He was out to lunch at the time so we talked to an associate manager who didn't have any information and directed us to Thomas Ekhart? (I can't remember the last name) who was the shift manager out to lunch. She mentioned that he would be back around 1:00pm (in 40 min.). We thanked her and left to go kill some time at Sure Shot and stopped by the mall for a quick snack before heading back. Upon arriving at Tri-State we again asked to see Thomas and he happened to just be walking up so we mentioned that someone at the store told us that it was against corporate policy to open carry which he confirmed. His demeanor was not rude, but certainly not polite seeing as how we were asking about their firearms policy. When we asked to see the written policy he walked us back to the gun department without saying a word and pointed to a small sign about 5X10 inches that laid out that firearms are not to be openly carried in the store and that the employees would be happy to hold our firearms while we shopped. We mentioned that we had never seen it and he brought up the fact that it was the same as every other disclaimer throughout the store about credit cards not being accepted and that 99/100 times people hand him a credit card.At this we decided to leave the store and just before walking out I asked if it applied to LEO which he responded that it didn't (because LE are obviously better trusted then the average law abiding citizen). The plan is to write corporate and notify them that they are one of the only stores in Moscow that has a policy that is inconsistent with state law. Hopefully in the near future we will have a picture of the notice (which is not obviously visible, nor is it posted on the door at the entrance). Hopefully everybody can find different places to shop in the Moscow area seeing as how Tri-State does not support your civil rights, no extra money needs to be handed their way. |

Was asked to leave Shopko by management for having a weapon, Dave contacted corporate, bought mic at radioshack, ran into SWAT van, ate pizza. ShyPanda gave me a call while I was at WSU studying today and told me that while in ShopKo, which Kevin and myself OC in all the time, a manager approached him and told him the they have a written policy against openly carrying firearms. I'll leave the details of this encounter, the OC events of the day, and him backing into the SWAT van, for his post and just focus on my reaction to ShopKo. The first thing that I did was contact corporate via the 1-800 number on their webpage. I asked the lady what the corporate policy was concerning the legal carrying of firearms in their stores by civilians and she initially responded by saying that it was illegal, period. I politely asked her if she knew that all of their major competitors (Wal-Mart, ,etc) had policies of mirroring state law to allow legally carried firearms and if this was a written policy. She said that now that she thought about it, she didn't know and would check "the handbook". She tried looking it up but couldn't find anything barring firearms. She gave me the number of Washington loss/prevention and told me that I should call them with the question. She was very professional and polite throughout the conversation. I assumed that with her giving me the number to the Washington branch, my dealings with corporate would be done. I was wrong as you'll read below. I called Washington loss/prevention and asked him the same questions. I further stated (I was feeling brave) that I was a member of OCDO, who we are, our public education efforts with the gun rights pamphlets, that their competitors allow open carry in their stores, and that I loved shopping at ShopKo and really didn't want to see a misunderstanding with a local manager prevent me from doing any future business with them. He must have been a gun person because he seemed to really become interested when I told him about our efforts to educate the public and correct the piles of misinformation out there. He also couldn't find anything baring us from entering the store while legally carried firearms but said that he'd inquire further and give me a call back. About an hour later, I got a call from corporate. It was a man from Utah (I missed who he was but he had something to do with security) and he told me that, as least in Utah, there was no policy that he was aware of that banned firearms in their stores and further stated that if the state licensed/trusted us with openly carrying firearms, then so would ShopKo. He said that I should contact Washington loss/prevention to be sure that they didn't have anything and I informed him that I already had and was awaiting a call back. We talked for several minutes and I gave him the same speech on OCDO to which he also seemed really receptive. It's too early to tell, but I think that we have this one in the bag as a misinformed manager. I was surprised though at how nobody seemed to know an answer. I would have thought that there would have been a big book of ShopKo rules which they could just thumb through to find it, but apparently it either doesn't exist, or (as I think is going on) three people have now looked in it and found nothing but wanted to ask somebody else before giving me a final answer. I'll let you know when I hear back from loss/prevention. |

Good stuff Dave. That specific store will stay on the Watch List, as you guys requested, until we know that the manager there has been 'retrained' by corporate that OC is legal and allowed (if they do, indeed, affirm it is allowed). Hopefully they don't do something stupid like say it isn't allowed at all and I have to move them to the DNP List. |

Ok, so I am in a better mood today after my computer almost flew out my window. So here it goes again. Yesterday after taking one of my finals and stopping by work just to find out that I didn't need to go in until thursday I came home and hopped online to see the goings on of OCDO. I quickly came across the recent incident over on the west side which irked me off just enough to feel the need to take care of some errands that I have been putting off, OCing the whole time obviously. So before I have a chance to even start the car a friend calls and ask us to pick him up(at this stage it is me and the roommate) cause he had to take his rig into the shop. I agree and head on out to Ace Hardware here in Pullman to pick up a few things for my dresser, no issues there whatsoever, figure its going to be a good day (although slightly odd that the checker didn't bag my purchases, i think she was a little freaked by my sidearm). On to Shopko, and this is where the day becomes interesting. So upon entering the building we head straight back towards the electronics section because ironically enough I was planning on buying some rechargable batteries and a mic for my voice recorder, it sucks without one. On our way i notice an employee stareing at my gun as I walk past continuing our conversation. After grabing the batteries i move onto the next isle and start looking for a mic. Not three minuites after being in the store a manager and an employee walk up to me and aske me to leave because weapons were not allowed in the store. Somewhat caught off guard due to the bluntness I aksed if it was company policy or not, taking note of his nametag. I noted that the last word on it was manager and also made sure to note his name which is Derek (sp?) before continuing the conversation. He said that it was against policy to allow weapons in the store to which I replied 'is that written down anywhere?' he said that it was in their handbook and as such i would have to leave.(note: due to the fact that my recorder was still sucking something fierce at this point, I can not say verbatum what the conversation was, merely an approximation) I asked to see it and he said that he didn't have one on hand (ironic for a handbook). I wanted to confirm that he was a manager since I couldn't get a copy of the information so I asked if he was the manager which he did in fact confirm. I, not wishing to be tresspassing, asked if he prefer I should place the items back which I was planning on purchasing or just hand them over, his suprise to this question was somewhat humorus, and after a few seconds said that he would take them, so I did and then left. The whole situation shocked me considering I have had multiple occasions OCed in the store and even had conversations with the checkers late at night just before close while obviously OCing, even mentioning the fact. But no matter. Once outside, just like always I remembered all the things I should have asked and mentioned, the thought even crossed my mind to send my roommate back to ask for the manager to come outside so that we could talk and I wouldn't be tresspassing, but I figured that it could easily be interpreted as intimidation. Somewhat irked about that situation my roommate mentioned that Radioshack would have a mic, so we went up the block to check. At first we were the only ones there and I asked the employee if they had any mics, at this point Dave called to explain the current situation with Tri-State managment and I broke in and told him about what had just happened at Shopko, somewhat rudely to the employee I realize now. He pointed to the mics and I thanked him, all while talking very loudly about OCing. After the conversation with Dave was over I grabbed the mic and walked around the store alittle asking about battaries, which he pointed at as right infront of me After having picked up a new mic, which works swimmingly, we went and picked up our buddy with the car troubles, and then off to get Dave at the WSU police station. When I drove into the parking lot which is not much bigger than a couple packs of gum, I realized that all the spots were full and attempted to turn around. As such I was backing up taking full note of the Whitman County SWAT van that was parked directly behind me. I even mentioned that hitting that thing would make a bad day even worse... little did I know. So as I threw it into first and let out the clutch I ROLLED into the front bumper of the SWAT van We stopped by Dave's house for a short stint and proceded to go downtown and pick up an insane amount of pizza, buy one get one free 26" monsters. The order wait was about 30 min, during which time Dave called Shopko corporate and proceded to get the run around from my perspective, all the while making headway. He will obviously have more on that later. Seeing that we needed some soda to go with our pizza we went back across town (not really saying that much for Pullman) and get buy 3 get 3 free 2L pepsi products. Shoping completed here we picked up the pizzas and ended up at my house talking about the days events and other related-ish items. That is about all that I am willing to put up considering that if my computer doesn't post this again, I am seriously going to throw it out the window. Hope that this makes it an you all continue to see my posts on here, even though some of you undoubtedly wish this were not the case. |

Shy_Panda wrote: As I went up to pay for my item one of them walked over to the counter and then walked back. Both me and my roomie swear that we heard them say "Yep, its a Serpa." which is in fact my holster which freaked me out The above is scary... really scary. I mean, maybe those guys were just pro-gun guys that liked to wear 'gangsta' clothing and are actually responsible law-abiding citizens... BUT, if they really were BG's, then knowing not only that you're carrying a gun, but also how to disable the retention systems on your holster (by knowing what kind of holster it is) is just disturbing. I'm confident that if someone were to try a gun-grab on me without knowing about the finger-lever on the Serpa that they'd only end up giving me a wedgie and getting them some serious beat-down in self-defense (I know, I've given myself a wedgie trying to get my unloaded gun out of the holster or to just pull the holster off without depressing the lever). But if they know the retention features of a certain holster, that means they can devise a way to distract you (which I'm not saying will work, as we all try to be alert and aware, but this was two against one) and then slip in and pull your firearm. That said, it sounds like you did really well in keeping alert and aware. One way you might have defused any situation was to strike up a conversation with them about it such as "Oh, were you interested in getting a Serpa?" and get to talking to them. You'll find out pretty quick what their intentions are and you'll have them in front of you where they can't surprise you. ---------- As for the long posts, what I do before hitting "send" is right click in the message window, click "Select All", then either press Ctrl+C or (right click, copy), then hit send. That way, if the internet Borks on me, I can just go back, click "reply", press Ctrl+V or (right click, paste) and it's all right there again. It's almost like carrying a gun... I rarely ever need it, but when I do, it's nice to have done it. |

I really am glad to hear that, Dave. But remember, the first time I actually had an encounter with police was the Seattle PD encounter last month at Denny's. I've been OC'ing for about a year now, maybe a little more, and it took that long just to have a simple encounter with a cop. Plus, that was after he didn't notice for 2 or so hours and I had to get up from the table (after sitting strong side to him that whole time) for him to notice. I felt like those cops were in Condition White while in that Denny's, like they were in a "safe zone"... or, maybe they thought Denny's was a "Gun Free Zone". |

After not hearing from ShopKo for two days I called loss/prevention again and got transferred to the district office where a guy (another one from Utah) told me that they had heard about my call and that their policy was to mirror state law on the matter. He went on to say that people OC in the Utah stores from time to time and nobody down there has a problem with it as long as they abide by state law. We talked for several minutes about OCDO and my views on open vs. concealed carry. He told me that if the manager gave me any additional problems, I should tell the manager that I talked to corporate and they said to contact Josh Nuwell (I'll double check the name when I get home. I'm sitting at WSU using their high speed internet to look at all the neat pictures on MilitaryMorons .com right now With the new information in hand, I grabbed ShyPanda, strapped on my sidearm and voice recorder, and headed for ShopKo. Derek, the manager who asked Paul to leave was on duty and we both approached him. Here's the first part of the conversion (as best as I can remember it, as I don't have my recorder in front of me): Me: Derek? Derreck: Yes? Me: Just so you know, this conversion is being recorded. (that got his attention and I think that that was a major reason behind him being so polite to us) Hi, my name is __ and I believe that you met my friend here, [ShyPanda], last week. I'm here concerning you asking [ShyPanda] to leave the store due to a store policy concerning the carrying of firearms in your store. I've contacted corporate and they've stated that you're firearms policy mirrors state law, which means that if it's legal for us to carry a pistol, then it's policy to allow it in your store. I spoke with Josh Nuwell (he definitely knew who I was talking about when I said the name as he visibly looked surprised and straightened up) and he told me that if you had any questions concerning your firearms policy, you should contact him and that you'd know his number. What you do have is a written policy preventing employees from carrying firearms at work and we both suspect that that was where the confusion came in. Since your policy mirrors state law, I thought that you might like one of these (handed him a pamphlet). This covers all the major state laws concerning firearms. We're part of a group called Open Carry Dot Org, and in light of recent events around the country, are now carrying our firearms openly whether than concealed to show the general public that everyday ordinary people do carry firearms that it's the person, not the gun, that's the problem. We hand out a lot of these pamphlets, talk to the general public about firearms laws, and most importantly, put a face on the people who carry for self defense. Derek: Could we step off to the side for a minute (noticing that the employees at the registers were all listening in intently). I hope that I didn't come across as rude the other day (talking to ShyPanda), I was only trying to enforce what I thought was our company policy. ShyPanda: No, not at all. We talked for a few more minutes and then we shook hands and left the store. All in all, a very good outcome. If anybody is interested in the recording, I can see about putting it up, although it really won't have too much more than the above. Last edited on Wed May 7th, 2008 09:26 pm by Dave The Welder |

Three of us OCed all over Pullman during the end of finals week when the gradutes were running around everywhere with their parents and it was completely uneventful. We even went into the library in downtown Pullman and they didn't bat an eye at my sidearm as I got a library card and then checked out a book. It's so uneventful, it's scary. I think that Pullman is the most OC friendly place ever. |

I OCed to Taco Time in downtown Pullman tonight for dinner. I've OCed in there many times, but this seemed to be the time that everybody noticed. The gal making the food came "bouncing" to the front counter to harass the guy taking my order (it was a slow night and they were all making the most of it having fun). She looked over at me and said very matter of fact, "You have a pistol". I replied that yes I did and that this was an open carry state. Both of them seemed interested so I talked with them about open carry and how a CPL is needed if you're in a vehicle. While this was going on, another employee walked into the store and got into the conversation. He asked what I was carrying and I told him that it was a 1911. He said "that's what I thought it was" and went about ordering his food. We all joked for a few minutes until my food showed up and then I sat down to eat. After eating I approached him again as he was still there and asked how he knew that it was a 1911. He said that one of his friends owns one and that he's into firearms and is thinking about buying a pistol. I handed him a pamphlet and let him know about OCDO and what we were about. When I mentioned that we post pictures of us carrying in public, he called the bouncy gal from earlier up and asked if she had her camera on her. He said that he wanted to get a picture of me with the employees to post on OCDO. She didn't have her camera on her but I promised to come in one more time before I left town and bring my camera. The entire time I was talking to him there were two guys sitting nearby eating dinner that were listening in but they never got involved in the conversation or asked me anything. I couldn't have asked for a better encounter. |

I had a wonderfully uneventful OC day, stopped by Ace hardware yet again to pick up some odds and ends and then the dreaded Shopko for a bag and other accouterments with no reactions at all. Got into a conversation with the checker who I presumed noticed my sidearm, but didn't say anything, fairly cute but regrettably I didn't have the nerve to do anything about it. Later in the evening I felt the need to become somewhat active and break in my new boots so I went for a short 4 mile ruck at the baseball fields at the bottom of engineer hill, 8 laps in total with my trusty beretta and a 75lbs ruck... I forgot how much new boots make the dogs bark even after a short walk. Every time I passed the bleachers I was strong side to them and even though their eyes were on the game, it was easy for them to notice the dark black spot in the middle of tan on my side as I passed them each and every time. Nobody said anything at all, a couple of kids stayed along side of me for about half a lap and then got bored and found something else to preoccupy themselves. All in all a pretty good day to help boost the spirits. Dave, let me know when you plan on heading back to taco time before you take off, I will make sure to stop by as well. |

I worked at a the gun counter at Tri-State for about 2 years not too long ago. They only started this policy after I left though. E-mailing "corporate" is simply sending an e-mail to one man... Gerard Connelly who owns the company. He is a liberal son of a bitch who proudly told stories of dodging the draft in Vietnam. Good luck with the Moscow store manager, Thomas. Can't stand the man. I was on his "buddy list" and just couldn't stand the way he treated other people.. I could go on for days about tha place. |

So I went and saw the new Narnia movie opening night around 930 so obviously the whole town was there, more people than I thought. Before I could even get to the door I noticed that people were looking more than usual. It may have been the fact that I was wearing shorts and so they were merely looking at my pasty white chicken legs or at my sidearm, I guess that one is up in the air. When I went up to the ticket booth to get my ticket There was one guy, maybe 20 on a good day who could not take his eyes off and actually hurried over to his friends to point me out, never noticing that I was looking at him. I purchased my ticket and went into the main lobby to wait for a few other friends, who turned out to already be waiting for me so we all went into the theater. The attractive young lady taking the tickets noticed that I was carrying but said nothing aside from 'theater number 2 is the first one on your right,' I was hoping for something more along the lines ' here is my number' but alas. Anyway, we all went in and got our seats and I was strong side to the front as I walked through so it was difficult to see that I was OC. After I sat down I started to get a dehydration headache cause I work out during the middle of the day and am not a huge fan of water Aside from several people looking fairly awkward trying to grasp the fact that people with guns don't hate the world, it was a very pleasant night. And the movie was great, but Ironman was still better. I OCed to that last week. Nothing else of any consequence has occurred, Wallmart, and Hastings in Moscow are both still non-event locations, as are Safeway, Ace and Dismores. I haven't been in Shopko since I went in with Dave so I might have to give that a whirl during my errands. |

Darn. That's too bad. I've been shopping at the Moscow Tri-State for 30 years, and I never knew about this policy. I'll be avoiding them whenever possible, BUT (and this is important) if I'm going to punish them for this policy by taking my business elsewhere, they both need and deserve to know why. If you're going to place them on your DNP list, you need to notify them. It will be vastly more powerful that way. |

Tri-State's contact information is available here: http://www.t-state.com/main.php?pname=contactUs I just sent this email: From: Ry Jones Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 1:05 PM To: tristate@t-state.com Subject: open carry policy on firearms in your stores Hello, As a patron of Tri-State, I was sorry to read about your open-carry policy on firearms. Until your policy is changed, I won't be shopping in your stores. Thanks, Ry |

Ry; You gave them the short and sweet. I took them to the tool shed and gave them the 400 word talkin' to: Dear Management, I have been shopping at Tri-State since coming to this town in 1978-- more than 30 years. Some of your long-term employees know me on a first name basis. I was dismayed when it recently came to my attention that you do not allow open carry of a holstered firearm in your store. As I understand it, your policy is to have a salesperson hold the gun while the customer shops. The latter is an especially foolish policy-- it demands the unnecessary drawing and handling of a loaded gun. For safety purposes, such unnecessary handling is not allowed even on most shooting ranges. A loaded gun is best left in its holster until there is a compelling need for it. You should be aware of the fact that legally armed citizens, taken as a group, are safer, more law-abiding, and have higher incomes than the population as a whole. Statistically, they are more law-abiding than police as a matter of fact. Logically, there is no reason for your anti-carry policy. People with criminal intent, for instance, are never going to be dissuaded from evil deeds by such a policy, any more than they are dissuaded by "gun free zone" signs in front of a school building or college campus (this has been proven all too often). In short; A. Asking that a loaded gun be un-holstered and handled by at least two people is counterproductive to any possible safety concern. B. Armed citizens are peaceable, safe, responsible, and they spend more money. Hardly a week has gone by in over 30 years that I have not made a purchase in your Moscow store. Some of the larger purchases, off the top of my head, have been: A Makita drill A corded hammer drill Two milling vices Two bench vices Two bench grinders Two Dremel tools with accessories A Kitchen-aid mixer Drill press Band saw Glock pistol At least one shotgun At least two rifles Several pairs of high-end shoes Multiple BBQ grills Lawnmower Weedeater Tree stand Food Smoker Tent High-end backpack Target trap Fishing reel Folding chairs Cots Camping table Ice-cream maker Multiple tool sets Drill indexes Several sleeping bags Large Coleman Stove Coleman gasoline lantern Multiple sets of plumbing fixtures for rental properties The list goes on and on. I will be avoiding Tri-State until you rescind this illogical, unsafe, and customer-hostile policy. Afterwards, I will gladly return to your excellent store. Sincerely, Lyle Keeney President-- UltiMAK, Inc. Vice President-- Keeney Bros. Music Center, Inc. Now that is the way to get across to them. Letting them know you won't be bringing your business back and showing them how much you spend is the kind of thing that usually scares the hell out of retail management. I was in retail management for a little under 10 years and that is the thing that scared me the most. |

I know-- I've a retail business for 30 years. I sent them another letter: Dear Tri-State Management, As an addendum to my previous letter, I make a suggestion regarding the carrying of personal firearms in your stores. Cabela’s store in Post Falls, for instance, has a sign at the front door which reads something like, “Guns brought into the store for sale are to be inspected by a salesperson. This does not apply to personal guns carried for protection.” I would suggest the following; “Personal firearms are to remain holstered at all times.” Simple and to the point—you do not want loaded pistols un-holstered and handled except in an emergency. It gets the point across, and your good customers will not be made to feel like pariahs. Thank You, Lyle Keeney |

Omnivore (and I'm guessing RyJones, due to your last post), it's good to have you, as UltiMAK president (and I'm guessing employee for Ry). Your company has a very good reputation for rail accessories. I'd shop there, but I can't justify paying the prices you guys charge. For example, I will be buying a tri-rail lower handguard for my AES-10 in the near-ish future, but I can't justify the $220 pricetag you have for them when I can get the same thing from Blackjack Buffers Inc for under $100. I'm not knockin' ya for running your business the way you want to, but I wish your prices were more competitive so I could send my money to more local (and gun-friendly) states. |

If we charged 100 dollars for our tri-rail, we'd be selling at a loss-- bankrupt in about a week. What youre doing, essentially, is comparing a $40 BSA red dot paintball sight to a 550 dollar Aimpoint, or a 40 dollar SKS scope/mount combination to a Leupold or a Swarovski optic. I could go into the elegant engineering and manufacturing details, their relative costs, and their implications to the user, but this isn't the place to do it. Read the description on my web site. I didn't just make that up as marketing fluff. Suffice it to say that we started doing what we're doing in response to, as an alternative to, the type of product you're discussing. Open carry-- yeah! |

Welcome! Too bad you missed the party today, myself and Dave the Welder OC'd to the 4th of July in the park party. Quite fun...ended up making a good impression on everyone we talked to. It is something that is easier to do if you start with people who are comfortable with it and familiar with the laws. I'll keep you posted on OC lunches. Tokyo-Seoul is a very OC friendly place, several of us eat there often. Perhaps next week when they re-open some of us can get together and enjoy a bit of sushi? TTYl |

Here are the pictures of Tanman and I at the 4th of July party in the Pullman Park. Notice our great OC shirts. Earlier that day we OCed in the mall in Moscow and found these shirts in Hot Topic. We also ended up talking with a Desert Storm vet in the mall who was very friendly towards us OCing. Tanman is on the left, I'm on the right. In case you can't read the shirts, they say "Meteors don't kill dinos, dinos kill dinos". I'm pretty sure that it's an anti-gun shirt but they're so funny and wearing them got so many comments. So I have some actual OC news to put on here for once. I have heading over to moscow and around pullman quite often cause there is NOBODY in town yet. Over the course of the last week I have on several occasions gone into (Pullman) Dismores, Ace hardware, Shopko, Safeway, HHP (my rentors who are screwing me), Bookie 2, Tokyo Seoul, Taco Time, and Crimson and Grey; all of which I have had no problems. When I went into Crimson and Grey there was a Whitman County Sheirffs car parked outside so was curious to see if today was the day I get confronted by LEO; nope, just walked past and checked up on book prices for the fall (highway robbery... mabey thats why he was there). As for Moscow I frequented Goodwill, Walmart, Hastings, Winco, the Palouse Mall to include Zumies, Hot Topic, several jewelry stores, Macy's?, a poster shop, Buckle, and a few others while trying to find a new watch. No real incidents but a few quasi conversations. When I was in Zumies the female behind the counter was really nice and came and opened up the case even though I said it was unnecessary and another store employee walked up and mentioned a specific watch that he liked and proceeded to ask about my Cobra Commander shirt. After a brief chat he walked to the back for something and after being stopped by a third employee he walked back up and said "the guy back there just asked if you had a gun, and I told him 'I'm sure he has a permit'" So I told him that you didn't need a permit for either ID or WA as OC was legal. He was unaware of the fact but seemed cool with it and went on to say "Yeah he said something about you're not going to pay for the watch, you're just gonna pull your gun and take it." I didn't know exactly how to respond other then in a dumbfounded manner with something to the effect of 'Really, like I would do something like that.' He interupted me and basically said that he knows and that the other guy is just sort of like that. I didn't get a watch but they were very good salespeople non-the-less and I suggest shopping there if thats your style. While at hastings picking up some movies I started to pick up some of the conversation from the couple behind me which I decided not to join in on because the guy seemed to have everything covered so far as I could tell. I didn't get all of it so here is the jist. F: Is that a gun. M: Yep F: Is it loaded M: See the red dot on the side, that means its ready to go if he wants to. F: But isn't it safer to have it on, I don't know safe? M: I think so but it also takes a little bit extra time to take it off. F: But what if somebody tries to take it. M: Well I guess that somebody is going to have a pretty bad day then. Cause I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Again approximation, but it was a really cool conversation. Other than that an extremely uneventful week... jerks. |

Again the basic OC day, hit up the following with no problems; Shopko, Hastings, Walmart, the Palouse Mall. I also went to Dismores to pick up a six pack of Kokanee Gold and the bagger mentioned something about needing more ammo. It caught my attention but then realized that him and the cashier were having a rubber band fight and he needed more... that is until he noticed my beretta and said "well, i'll bet this guy doesn't need any more ammo." We then conversed about the M9 and his family sponsored military training at the age of 13... Today ran into Higgins furnishings? here in pullman and tested out some new beds with a friend who needed help deciding on what she should get. I have a feeling that one of the employees didn't care for my firearm because after he walked up and asked if we needed any help he proceeded to walk to the far side of the store and sit on his fourth point of contact twiddling his thumbs. We were promptly helped by another employee who didnt seem to mind, or notice, at all. I must say despite the massive influx of people which I don't particularly care for, the scenery here in town is getting much better. I am surprised at how many women don't seem to have a problem with men OCing. Mabey I have just become complacent though. |

So I haven't been on in a couple of days and what a great couple of days it has been. Was hanging out with Dave here in Pullman and we ended up having to go down to Dismores to pick up some more drinks for a party so we walk back to the beer cooler and pick up a case of cheep beer. We were passed by two guys as we walked out and we proceeded up to the register to pay for the beverages. The same two guys got behind us in line and the first thing out of their mouths was; "Hey! You guys are open carrying!". Dave and I both look at eachother dumbfounded, which if you know Dave, it doesn't happen very often. We proceded to have a conversation about how unusual it is for us to run across people who even know what OC is and they kept going on how we were awesome because we were standing up for everyone's 2A rights. Dave has the whole thing on tape so hopefully he will be on shortly to provide a better description of the events as the transpired. In other news, the Palouse mall remains a fun place to OC as does walmart. Ran into Big 5 with no problems, again Safeway here in Pullman. Pizza Perfection doesn't seem to have a problem with it, but I don't think that the girls behind the counter were paying too much attention seeing as they were hitting on myself and the roommate. Some parents of incoming freshman were not to excited to se my beretta, but I think that they were more worried about their sons when we explained that they "would have a really good time their freshman year" at which point our conversation shifted to some of the local bars (at this point we were talking amongst ourselves). If anyone gets a chance to go into the new mongolian grill (Mongolian Fire) the food is amazing and they could care less if you are OCing, I think the only notice they took of it was when we walked in and the glance was all but non existant, and they were more than friendly the whole time we were there. Yet again another wonderful relatively uneventful few OC days. |

To all you Pullmaners...Pullmonians...Pullmanites... Cougs. Just to start the school year off right how does a really short notice get together sound? Mabey friday for lunch at Mongolian Fire, noonish. The food is amazing and fairly inexpensive, plus the owners seemed to be very open to the whole OC idea, although I didn't address it with them directly. I am thinking that I will be there regardless but would love to see anyone who decides to show up. |

Alright, so here is a quick rundown of the OC meet... unorganized. For specifics I showed up at 1200 being the punctual person I am and got a table for three. I was the one wearing the white button up by the way fish. Fish shows up and as I attempt to determine if he is "the new guy" I look for a sidearm and don't see one so I don't have the common sense to just straight up ask. He goes and gets his food, meanwhile I call dave_the_welder, the guy with the beard, who shows up somewhere around 1230 with steelcopreap?... I forgot computer names also. So as the three of us go to get our food the cooks tell me I need to add more sause so I add several more laddles of mongolian fire so when they put it on the grill and it spills over the side huge flames shoot to the roof at which point the little cook snips "did you add enough mongolian fire?" Of course none of this has anything to do with the fact that it was a very uneventful OC event other then seeing friendly faces and discussing what we should attempt to accomplish this year... which we sort of have less lofty visions then does dave. But I am sure that those of you who know dave know what I mean by that. |

So lunch/dinner was good tonight, met up with dave and roomie at mongolian fire. No problems, slight discussion with a couple of kids who seemed as though they were well aware of the laws. It took a while before they realized that I was OCing and they started having a conversation about how they definetly felt 'alarmed,' another said he didnt understand why anyone would need to bring it in there. This is the point where I chimed in with the trusty 'you know it is legal in washington state right?' He acknowledged that he was aware of its legality but didnt understand why i needed to bring it in. This brought up the automated response 'You never know when you might need one, its like a seat belt, do you need it everytime you use it?' To this he replied 'ive heard that arguement before, and i am not going to get into an arguement.' They had their own little conversation about how open minded they were and how evil I am... whatever, freedoms loss. Aside from that no problems, in fact I think that one of the kids might have gone up to management and told them about us... good thing I have been there enough times that they recgonized me. If this was the case the kid must have been told that our group is fine, or something to that effect. At any rate I did manage to get a picture of us enjoying the wonderful meal. Just thought I would float the idea of having a weekly meal at Taco Time or someplace where we can just show up at a specific time and others might choose to show up as well. Obviously we can still continue to have meets other places and determine those times later, it just seems as though we tend to forget about getting together for a meal and tend to throw it together somewhat last minute. Because we have such a large ratio of OC'ers in Pullman, or at least those who are interested, I would assume that we would have at least two people show up any given week. I have a feeling that Dave might be up for this seeing as how he loves Taco Time; just wanted to address the idea with everyone else. I don't really care on the days that we meet so lets start floating some ideas on times and whatnot if we do decide that this might be a good idea. |

Wow, this idea sort of fell through huh? I think that I will just end up heading on down to taco time at somepoint around noon on friday. If things change I will let everyone know that this I won't be there. I still encourage as many people to show up regardless. Also there is going to be an OC meet up in spokane on the 18th and if anyone was interested I was thinking that I might need to make the trip up for it, perhaps we could even do an OC breakfast on the 18th before the ride up. Just food for thought (no pun intended). |

I have been too busy during lunch time to even think about going off campus. I was thinking we all might want to have a dinner sometime soon and discuss the proposed U-District. It is looking like the bill could have firearms banned at residences in the new district boundaries. The website also has a map of part of the WSU boundaries and we were discussing that at the last meeting I went to. I have to do research on this whole thing for my lame english class and I was thinking that maybe we could file some sort of state FOIA since the university is a public, government funded institution. I havent looking into this that much, just today during my english class and I posted the links I found below. Tell me what you guys think. This could turn out to be important for us and future students. U-District Bill http://udistrict.wsu.edu/utils/File.aspx?fileid=3918 U-District Website http://udistrict.wsu.edu/ Washington Public Records Act http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=42.56 WSU WAC Code http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=504 |

November 15 we should have an OC meet at either Quizno's, Taco Time or Mongolian fire. All of them are friendly towards us and they are in areas where there are people who would see us. Lets hear what you all have to say about it. |

A customer apparently pointed out to one of the employees that we were armed and asked her if we were local law enforcement or something. She stopped by at our table and asked us what our profession was. (Coincidentally we share the same profession, but it's not law-enforcement.) She apparently let the customer know that we were just normal folks with weapons and he was apparently rather surprised that we were armed. Unfortunately, he left and we didn't have a chance to talk to him directly or pass out any of the tri-fold fliers. I can't be certain exactly how the conversation between the employee and the customer went. I'm just going off of what she mentioned to us after the customer left. She was very pleasant and friendly, and she apparently knows Dave as a regular customer as well. |

Alright, hear me out... Lunch... Pullman/Moscow... first week of the new semester. I feel so left out, admittedly I haven't kept up on the forum like I once did, but I am in need of come OC-ness once the new semester starts up to reaffirm freedom (or at least the illusion thereof). If anyone plans on being in Pullman/Moscow for the first week of the new semester we need to meet up. Anytime MWF works for me all semester seeing as how I only have classes 2 days a week, so feel free to PM me, or get ahold of me through Dave until we actually meet. Any rate, who ever is up for it lets figure out the local. I am always up for Mongolian Fire, Quiznos, Taco Time, Tokyo Seoul because they have been very friendly to us in the past. RIP Taco Time... Came from a coworker... "The downtown Pullman Taco Time that’s been there longer than anyone can remember has closed. My son reported for work today to find a bunch of people he didn’t know dismantling everything. They told him that everyone was let go and the place was closed for good." One less OC friendly place in Pullman... Shady deal from the sounds of it. |

I've OC'd in Subway and Baskin-Robbins before, but they sure do give me some odd looks in there. Subway gets sooooo much college frat-boy traffic I'm nervous about OC'ing in there unless I can put my back to a wall. |

It's been almost a month since our last OC lunch here in Pullman. We've got one new addition to the Pullman area OC crowd who would like to attend an OC lunch on a weekend day and I'm working on another as well. So how about it? A Pullman (or Moscow ID) OC lunch on Feb 7 or Feb 14? |

The pullman taco time closed because a college aged male had shards of glass put into his food and it nearly killed him. An AFROTC Captain found him vomiting in tears in the parking lot and called it in. |

As I understand it from when I met members of the Pullman group months ago, they are quite receptive to it. There are several restaurants they have already "tested", Mongolian and Quizno's being at least 2 of them. Shouldn't be any problem, unless it comes from a hysterical patron. Dave |

That was fun guys, thanks. Hope those of you who went shooting don't get hit with rain - looks like it could happen. As it turns out, I ran into 2 of my co-workers (big big big liberals) on my walk home. Monday morning might be interesting... Did anyone hear that guy ask me if we were cops? I don't think I handled it that well, I said "no, we're not police". He then asked if there was some sort of gun show going on and I said that we were just having lunch. I'm a quiet guy anyhow so I'm probably not the best on the outreach front. But then again, I guess the goal is to make OC appear to be normal. The guy seemed more interested than upset or anything. I'll be here all summer so if we want to meet again, let me know. |

Only thing more you could have done would have been to have a WA Gun Rights pamphlet to hand him. There are those of us that like to sit and chat about it with people and there are those that like to keep to themselves. Seeing as how you say you're more the latter, I'd say you covered the situation pretty well. Like you said, you were showing the gentleman that open carry (and carry in general) is not only legal, but normal. |

Yesterday was one heckuva good time. The turn out was amazing for the dinner and range trip afterwards. I have a random question now, I am going to be in Kreugal Park this afternoon and probably CCing since I will be there with a bunch of ROTC types for a retirement party. Are there any city codes that would try to keep me from carrying in the park? I know they should be preempted by state law but am curious so I can quote things should I decide to OC. |

I also know that Sure Shot in Moscow holds classes, there is actually one this weekend for $65. You can go to this NRA site and search your area for more. http://www.nrahq.org/education/training/find.asp Not all are posted and checking with the Lewiston pistol club and Diamondback gun range is probably your best bet. The Lewiston pistol club is usually the cheapest, with Diamondback being the most expensive. |

Random question: Can you carry in your car while driving through campus without running afoul of school policy? Are the roads considered city property? |

I actually called WSUPD on Saturday to ask this question. I spoke with Officer Olmstead who said that as long as we were carrying within the law, we would be fine on the road and/or sidewalk. My question was regarding moving through the area, obviously stopping off at the CUB or something would be a different story. |

Keep in mind that this came from one officer and from my own discussion with him. I wouldn't recommend drawing any conclusions from my conversation with him without checking for yourself. YMMV. My question to him was if I could get in trouble CCing through Stadium Way or walking down stadium way through campus. While it shouldn't make a difference, OCing might change the situation - atleast when walking is concerned. Thanks, Ken |

Well I called and asked the woman who answered (officer Stevens I think) and she said it was fine open carrying on the bus as it goes through campus and even if I have to get out and wait on campus property for a transfer. |

That tends to happen when school is out and the students are gone. Those who are left or the local kids get bored and break into things. Keep the dead bolts locked and your guns locked up, then hope for the best while you are gone. |

I Graduated and I'm no longer in Pullman! As far as open-carry on the WSU campus goes, it gets a bit convoluted. If you're not a student there's very little they can do to you other than ask you to leave the campus (trespass). If you attempt to get into one of the football games carrying, you will not be admitted. If you're open-carrying I would absolutely expect a campus PD response in almost any situation, except perhaps on one of the bus routes that loops through the campus. There are provisions for students to carry (even openly, which is not expressly forbidden) on campus in the WAC under some very limited terms: traveling from off-campus directly to the WSU PD gun-check and traveling from the WSU PD gun-check directly off campus is permitted. You'll see in the police log "RP checking firearm at gun-check" or something to that effect. I have open carried a battle-rifle on a sling under those specific WAC's for the purpose of checking it in at the gun-check before. It was absolutely in accordance with the campus policy and the WAC's but I got an awful lot of strange looks from students and several cell-phone calls were placed. Anyhow, I'm a bit surprised at the M4 tacticool response to OC at Blockbuster video. However, given the close proximity to that coffee shop I refuse to name, I can just imagine some ultra-radical socialist neo-hippie calling the police and telling them that a rampant shooting spree was imminent simply because some young citizen had a holstered firearm... I almost got assaulted by two drunk guys tonight. I was heading back from campus commons north after checking out a brush fire the fire department just put out. I was walking back to my apartment through CCN backyards next to a fence when two drunk guys were coming down. I was keeping an eye on them, as we passed each other the one closest to me pushes me off to the side. The guy asks me "who the &*^% are you looking at" and I tell him to just chill and I notice that they're closing in on me backing me up to a wall. I had concealed my pistol by wearing the right part of my jacket over it with my jacket unzipped. At that moment I moved the side of my jacket revealing my pistol ready to draw but the moment I moved my jacket the one guy noticed the gun and yelled "oh %&*#". The two took off and I made it home. I decided not to call the Police as I don't want them to charge me for a bogus crime like brandishing especially since I didn't even get my hand to the grip. To shad0wfax It was no one from the cofee shop it was a gardener who called saying I was on my way headed towards dissmores. |

I'd like to look at it to see what it says, as I would have no problems going to the gun-check every day. I'd just be nervous the first couple times as directly traveling to the WSU PD gun-check for me means walking through campus. Also I've noticed signs on the buses stating that it is against the rules to possess a firearm on the bus. And I'll be around for another year, but I won't be carrying until November when I can head to a gun store. (Unless someone wants to take a trip up to Spokane? |

Well, someone called the cops on me this morning. I can't be sure but I'm almost positive that's what happened. I stopped by the Goodwill drop off joint by ShopKo/Safeway and dumped a bag of crap with the guy there. We bs'd for a while and then I hopped back into my truck. I changed CDs (Tool ftw) in my truck and I noticed that a silver acura was parked alongside the curb by the trailer and he pulled in, I could see him talking on the cell phone. He drove back behind my truck, I guess to get my license number. Anyway, I went to Ace - spent about 5 minutes picking up a couple nuts and bolts and when I left the Ace parking lot, a Pullman PD car pulled out of the SW lot and followed me. I drove back to college hill, headed home up Valley Rd, but he was tailing me and I didn't feel like having a conversation so I just headed over to Moscow to finish my errands. He tailed me to the airport before turning around in the gravel overview lot. I'll be curious to see if there's a police log tomorrow. Not a big deal, it was just weird. I white-nuckled all the way, not wanting to give him PC to stop me. |

I was in Pullman a few days back and OCed down to Dismores. I ended up having a nice talk with another customer who didn't know that OC was even legal and loved what we were doing. I handed him a pamphlet and told him to check out the site. On my way out, the bagger in my check-out isle told me that he's seen lots of us in there and supports what we're doing. I also handed him a pamphlet. All in all, a great trip. Pullman is becoming the OC mecca of Washington. I've been stopped several times now by average people who have seen us around town, know what OC is, and support what we're doing. |

I am new to the forum. I have lurked off and on over a few years but first time I gotten involved. I am an old hand at CCW and have recently start OC. So far so good. I had one guy question my man hood because I was carrying a gun in McDonald in Lewiston. I simply told him I was a crazed killer and as soon as my 4 year old was done playing in the play land and I had eaten my big mack, I was going to go on a 10 state killing spree and why was his he not carrying a gun to stop me? Then I ask if he had no respect for him self or his family that he could not take the time to carry a gun to defend him self in wore case scenario. I finished with “I have responsibility to return every day to my wife and son. I also have an obligation to my wife and son to see to their safety as much as humanly possible and I take every step I can to keep that obligation.” That shut him up and I had a nice lunch and a good day from that point on. To the meat of my post. I would like to meet other OC. I will be at the Latah county fair on Thursday September 17, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. I will also be filling in some more at other times but I am waiting to see what need to be covered before I will know for sure. So stop by and say hi. I will be wearing a black Alienware hat. Was it a OCDO member who was OCing in a IWB holster last night on the North bus last night around 2315hrs? It was a Stainless gun with black grips in a brown leather holster. Got on the bus on Military Hill and got off at B Street and Stadium? I only ask because whoever it was really creeped out my girlfriend who is used to me and others OCing and her good friend. If it was an OCDO member you might want to shave and not be purposely showing it off on the bus. Look and act like an adult and it will help our cause much more than just showing it off. |

Just a little FYI. I was able to go on a ride along with Pullman PD last night. That 12 hour shift has completely changed my opinions of the department now that I have been able to see what they get to deal with. I rode with 3 different officers with varying levels of experience and found all of them to be very professional and respectful of the citizens in what they do. They treated everyone with dignity and respect and most of the time it was returned with the exception of most of the drunks and students who think they know everything and lip off to the cops. If you treat them with courtesy and respect, they will reciprocate. If you argue and act like a jacka$$, they do their best to remain professional but it is difficult at best. I also got some OC info from them. They have had training sessions about how to deal with OCers and typically don't respond to reports of "Man with a gun in a holster" unless there is very vague info about the call. Dispatch has been trained to interrogate callers better and inform them that what we are doing is perfectly legal and rarely does PPD respond. The officers I rode with support OC and our right o do so, but choose not to do it personally. |

Sounds cool Vandal, that is something I have been wanting to do for a long time now but just can't seem to find the time. So when is the next Saturday lunch get togther? I missed the last one at San Miguels, but couldn't have made it anyway as it was Friday evening and I work 2nd shift. I am hunting kinda heavily right now, so no gurantee I can make a Saturday one either, but I would certainly try. Dave R |

That's cool and I've known for awhile how professional they are but I really hate most of what they enforce. |

Dave the Welder has been doing this around here before me, and as I understand it there might be one other guy around town doing it. I've OC'd around town a little bit now and then but after this weekend's lunch in Spokane I'll be going more and more. I OC regularly around Moscow and also Pullman when I am there. I have OC'ed in the Pullman movie theatre several times and haven't had any problems. Aside from there and anyplace we have all gone to lunch, I don't usually spend much time in Pullman though. Would we like to do a open carry dinner in Moscow this Friday? I am working on getting Van Ward who is running for us congress and will be hear for the home coming game to attend the dinner. I think it would be a good opportunities to meet and question him about the 2nd amendment and his views on the role of government. Last edited on Mon Oct 19th, 2009 07:35 pm by bigwookiee |

Well I would prefer it not be a weekday evening because I work, but if he is only going to be here then I guess there isn't much choice. Maybe I could get off that day, use my personal day. But I for one would need to know ASAP!! SO I can take that day off. How soon can you let us know? Could you possibly email me personally at the thefirststrike2001@yahoo.com when you get it all organized? Dave R |

Congressional candidate Van Ward will be speaking to the Latha county republicans on Oct 30 at their monthly meeting. Their may be other congressional candidates their as well. I don't have the meeting place yet but I know that if it is at Jack in the Box they allow open carry. The other place may be the Sand Piper which is across the street from Rosauers. I don't know their policy on open carry. Its one of the few places I have not open carried in Moscow. Everyone is welcome to attend. Feel free to post this on other Moscow Pullman forms. I will still pester Last edited on Thu Oct 22nd, 2009 06:07 pm by bigwookiee |

Just a few words of warning to those who want to attend the events on the UI campus. UI is not covered under state preemption and is able to make and enforce their own rules regarding firearms. If you choose to OC, you are doing so at the risk of being asked to leave campus or trespassed. Moscow fire also has a no weapons policy for all of their stations. I don't know how well it is enforced though. |
